Check whether your GM vehicle and Galaxy phone are eligible
Samsung Electronics America announced the GM digital-key launch for Samsung Wallet users in the United States and Canada on October 6, 2026. The initial vehicles are select 2025–2027 Cadillac LYRIQ, 2026–2027 OPTIQ and 2027 VISTIQ models. These are model-year ranges, not a guarantee that every trim or configuration is enabled. GM is rolling the feature out in phases; check the vehicle app for availability. Samsung’s launch announcement and GM’s rollout notice describe the launch scope.

GM’s announcement names Galaxy S21+ 5G or newer, Galaxy Note20 or newer, and Galaxy Z Fold and Z TriFold families. Cadillac’s current support page provides the more specific UWB compatibility list, excludes Galaxy A and FE devices, and lists Android 16 as the software requirement. Because device support can change, confirm your exact phone and software on Cadillac’s digital-key support page and in the myCadillac app before pairing.

Have your phone, the physical key fob and access to the OnStar-connected vehicle. Cadillac’s enrollment instructions require accepting OnStar terms and signing in through myCadillac.

- Install or update the myCadillac app, sign in to the OnStar account associated with the vehicle, and accept the OnStar terms if prompted.
- In the app, choose Add key to device Wallet. If that option is not visible, open More > Vehicle Settings > Keys > Add key. On some vehicles, Vehicle Settings is under a gear icon.
- Turn on Bluetooth. Bring the phone and physical key fob into the vehicle, switch the vehicle on, put it in Park and close the doors.
- Follow the prompts on the phone and vehicle to complete pairing. When setup finishes, verify that the key appears in Samsung Wallet.
- Test the key with the fob absent: step out and try the available lock, unlock or start function, following the prompts for your vehicle.
The exact screens can vary by vehicle and app version, so follow the in-app prompts if they differ from these labels. Cadillac’s current enrollment guidance is on its digital-key support page; GM also describes pairing in the connected vehicle with the fob nearby in its rollout notice.
Unlock and start the vehicle
Unlock and lock with proximity
Keep the paired phone with you as you approach. GM says UWB provides proximity authentication for passive access: the vehicle can unlock as you approach and lock as you walk away. Bluetooth supports connected controls. The exact behavior depends on the vehicle’s available Wallet features and settings. Samsung’s announcement and Cadillac’s support page describe the GM experience.

Start to drive
With the digital-key-enabled phone inside the vehicle, use the vehicle’s normal start control. Cadillac says the digital key supports starting when the device is present. Do not assume you need to tap the phone on the door or place it on the wireless charging pad: Samsung’s NFC instructions for some other automakers are not the GM UWB procedure described for this launch.
Wallet commands are not the same as starting to drive
Depending on the vehicle and Wallet support, connected controls may include trunk or climate commands. A Wallet remote-start command, where available, is separate from starting the vehicle to drive; Cadillac says remote start requires a factory-installed and enabled remote-start system. Share or remove a digital key, and plan for a backup
Sharing varies by vehicle
GM’s general launch announcement says a key can be shared with up to seven additional devices. The 2027 VISTIQ owner manual instead specifies sharing with up to three additional people across eight total devices. These statements differ in scope, so use the sharing options displayed for your exact vehicle rather than assuming a universal limit. GM’s launch details and the 2027 Cadillac VISTIQ owner manual provide those figures.
Lost phone or access no longer needed
An account owner can remove access through the vehicle or Wallet, and GM says OnStar can deactivate a key if a device is lost or stolen. Samsung also says Wallet keys can be suspended or deleted remotely through Samsung Find on a computer. Use the method available to you promptly if your phone goes missing. Samsung’s announcement

Keep a suitable backup
The 2027 VISTIQ manual says a key card may be supplied; on that model it can unlock, lock and start the vehicle, including as a backup when phone power is weak or signal interference occurs. Not every eligible GM vehicle is established to include a card. If your vehicle came with one, keep it secure and do not place it on the wireless charger. The manual says replacement cards must be purchased and programmed through a dealer. For the conventional fob or another backup, consult your vehicle’s own manual. 2027 Cadillac VISTIQ owner manual

- Make sure the phone is switched on and sufficiently charged.
- Confirm Bluetooth is enabled and keep the phone close to the vehicle.
- Move objects that may block the signal; your body or an obstruction can interfere.
- Try toggling Bluetooth off and on, and keep the phone’s operating system current.
- If the problem continues, use the physical fob or any backup supplied with your vehicle and follow its owner manual.
A weakly charged phone or disrupted signal can prevent recognition. For vehicle-specific troubleshooting, consult the 2027 Cadillac VISTIQ owner manual if you own that model, or the manual for your vehicle.
