A regular World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time allows access to Forever, but it does not unlock Skyborne by itself. After the qualifying entitlement is applied, create a character, choose the Horde Windshaper or Alliance High-Order Skyborne variant, and begin the Zephras Isle starting experience. World of Warcraft: Forever launches on November 4, 2026.
Skyborne unlock requirements at a glance
| What you want to do | What is required | What is not enough on its own |
|---|---|---|
| Play World of Warcraft: Forever | An active subscription or Game Time, subject to Blizzard’s access terms | Nothing beyond the normal access requirement |
| Unlock the Skyborne race | Skyborne Heroic Pack or any higher Forever edition attached to your Battle.net account | A normal subscription or Game Time purchase alone |
| Enter the Skyborne introduction | The same qualifying Skyborne edition; it grants access to the Zephras Isle starting experience | Buying Game Time without the qualifying edition |
| Choose a faction and class | A new Skyborne character created after the entitlement is active | Trying to convert an existing character through the account’s subscription status |
The lowest edition identified as unlocking Skyborne is the Skyborne Heroic Pack. Wowhead listed its displayed price in 2026 as $29.99/€29.99; prices and regional availability can change, so verify the current Battle.net listing before purchasing.

What the qualifying purchase actually unlocks
Blizzard’s product information describes the requirement directly: access to the Skyborne race and the Zephras Isle starting-experience questline requires the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher edition. The entitlement is digital and is associated with the Battle.net account, not with a physical item.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
This creates two separate access checks:
- Mode access: an active subscription or Game Time lets the account play World of Warcraft: Forever, according to Blizzard’s access terms.
- Race access: the Heroic Pack or a higher Forever edition adds Skyborne and the Zephras Isle introduction to that account.
If you already pay for World of Warcraft, you still need the qualifying Forever edition to see Skyborne in character creation. Conversely, buying the race-unlocking edition does not permanently replace the subscription or Game Time requirement for play outside any time included with a particular edition.

How to unlock Skyborne, step by step
- Sign in to the intended Battle.net account. Use the account on which you will create and play the character. Entitlements applied to a different account will not make Skyborne selectable on your preferred account.
- Buy the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher Forever edition. The Heroic Pack is the lowest listed tier that unlocks the race. A higher edition also qualifies.
- Allow the purchase to finish processing. The race becomes available after the digital entitlement is attached to the account. If the purchase was made while the game or launcher was open, sign out of Battle.net and sign back in so the client refreshes account entitlements.
- Install or update World of Warcraft: Forever. Start the Forever client after the entitlement appears on the account. The game launches on November 4, 2026; before that date, a purchase alone cannot let you enter the live Forever experience.
- Open character creation. Select the option for the Skyborne race. You choose its faction-aligned variant during this process rather than after entering the world.
- Pick Windshaper or High-Order Skyborne. Horde characters use the Windshaper identity; Alliance characters use the High-Order Skyborne identity. The choice determines the faction, the exclusive class option and the faction-specific racial trait.
- Choose a permitted class and finish customization. The available class list is faction-specific, so confirm the class before finalizing the character.
- Enter Zephras Isle. The Skyborne starting experience begins there when you start the new character. Follow the introductory quests before continuing into the wider game.
You do not need to buy a separate race license, a physical product or a second subscription solely for the character. The Heroic Pack-or-higher entitlement is the race gate; your normal access plan remains the play-time gate.
Choose the Skyborne faction variant first
Skyborne is one race with two faction identities. Blizzard’s class information describes Horde-aligned Windshapers as descendants of shen’dorei high elves who received the wind spirits’ gift of elemental skysight. Alliance High-Order Skyborne are presented as descendants of the ancient Highborne scholars of Eldre’Thalas. In practical terms, faction selection changes the exclusive class and one racial ability while preserving the shared Skyborne tools.
| Variant | Faction | Exclusive class | Faction-specific racial | Shared classes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Windshaper | Horde | Shaman | Skysight | Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid |
| High-Order Skyborne | Alliance | Mage | Read Ley Line | Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid |
Horde Windshaper
Choose Windshaper if you want the Horde version of Skyborne or if Shaman is the class you intend to play. Windshapers can also be Warriors, Hunters, Rogues or Druids. Their faction-specific trait is Skysight, the movement-oriented option described below.

Alliance High-Order Skyborne
Choose High-Order Skyborne if you want the Alliance version or if you want a Skyborne Mage. Alliance Skyborne can be Warriors, Hunters, Rogues, Druids or Mages. Their faction-specific trait is Read Ley Line, which favors health and mana recovery rather than movement speed.

Every Skyborne class combination
The following table combines Blizzard’s official class tables with the faction distinction described in the Skyborne overview.
| Class | Horde Windshaper | Alliance High-Order Skyborne | What this means when creating a character |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warrior | Available | Available | Shared option; faction determines the racial trait and visual identity. |
| Hunter | Available | Available | Shared option. |
| Rogue | Available | Available | Shared option. |
| Druid | Available | Available | Shared option. |
| Shaman | Available | Not available | Horde-exclusive Skyborne class. |
| Mage | Not available | Available | Alliance-exclusive Skyborne class. |
The four shared classes are Warrior, Hunter, Rogue and Druid. Shaman is exclusive to Horde Windshapers, while Mage is exclusive to Alliance High-Order Skyborne. If your preferred class is Shaman or Mage, the faction decision is fixed before you finish character creation.
Where Skyborne starts: the Zephras Isle experience
A qualifying Skyborne edition grants access to the Zephras Isle starting experience. After you complete character creation, the new character enters this introduction rather than using a generic race start. The island is therefore part of the race entitlement, not a separately purchased zone or a feature unlocked by leveling another character.
If Zephras Isle does not appear for a newly created Skyborne character, check the account and edition first. The starting experience is tied to the Skyborne entitlement, so selecting the wrong Battle.net account or having a purchase that has not finished processing can prevent the option from appearing. Restarting the launcher after the purchase gives the client an opportunity to refresh the entitlement.
Skyborne racial abilities and their practical effects
Both variants share Walk on Air, Wind Blessed and Elemental Insight. The fourth trait differs by faction: Horde has Skysight, while Alliance has Read Ley Line. Blizzard supplies the official ability names and descriptions; Wowhead’s 2026 overview provides the operational effects summarized here.
| Ability | Who has it | Effect | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Walk on Air | All Skyborne | Glide downward for 10 seconds while steering. | Useful for controlled descents, reaching lower ledges and reducing the risk of a straight fall. |
| Wind Blessed | All Skyborne | 1% spellcasting, melee and ranged Haste. | A small, broadly applicable speed increase for every Skyborne class. |
| Elemental Insight | All Skyborne | 5% more damage against Elementals. | Most valuable in encounters where Elemental enemies are common; it is not a universal damage increase. |
| Skysight | Horde Windshaper | Can increase movement speed and mounted movement speed by 10%. | Favors travel and repositioning, especially for players who spend substantial time moving between objectives. |
| Read Ley Line | Alliance High-Order Skyborne | Can increase Health and Mana regeneration by 100%. | Favors recovery between fights and mana-dependent play, rather than faster movement. |
Walk on Air: controlled descent
Walk on Air is a downward glide, not a replacement for every form of movement. It lets you steer while descending for 10 seconds, so it is most useful when height is available and you need to choose where to land. Treat it as a positioning and fall-management tool: line up the destination before stepping off, then steer during the descent. The ability does not turn Skyborne into a permanently flying race.
Wind Blessed: the shared Haste bonus
Wind Blessed supplies 1% Haste to spellcasting, melee and ranged attacks. Because the description covers all three forms of combat, every listed Skyborne class receives a relevant benefit. The bonus is modest, so it should not be the sole reason to select a faction; it is a consistent passive advantage that accompanies either variant.
Elemental Insight: a conditional damage increase
Elemental Insight increases damage against Elementals by 5%. The bonus is encounter-dependent. It contributes when the target is an Elemental, but it should not be read as a 5% increase against every enemy type. If your regular content contains few Elementals, the ability will have little effect outside those fights.

Skysight versus Read Ley Line
The faction-specific choice is a trade-off between travel utility and recovery utility. Skysight can raise movement and mounted movement speed by 10%, making the Horde variant attractive to characters that prioritize getting between locations quickly. Read Ley Line can double Health and Mana regeneration, which is more relevant to downtime management and mana-based gameplay. Neither trait changes the available shared classes; only Shaman and Mage are faction-exclusive.
Galestrider mounts and level milestones
Galestriders are the racial mounts associated with Skyborne. The overview lists regular and swift variants tied to progression milestones:
| Mount variant | Associated level | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Regular Galestrider | Level 40 | The standard racial mount becomes associated with the level-40 progression point. |
| Swift Galestrider | Level 60 | The faster variant is associated with the level-60 progression point. |
These are progression associations, not a requirement for unlocking the race. You can create and play Skyborne immediately after the account entitlement is active; the mount milestones come later as the character levels.
Skyborne character customization
Character creation includes a broad set of Skyborne appearance categories. The listed options include skin tones, faces, eyes, brows, ears, hair, feathers, tattoos and facial tattoos. Body-type choices also affect which facial-hair, earring and feather-style options are available, so two characters with the same faction and class can still have noticeably different silhouettes and details.
Best Value
- Master the Path of the Monk - Learn the mystic powers of the Monk, World of Warcraft's newest playable class. Destroy foes with the Windwalker's devastating attacks, replenish allies with the Mistweaver's spiritual energies, and shrug off enormous damage with the Brewmaster's unyielding strength.
- Battle to level 90 - Ascend to new heights of power as you explore the verdant reaches of the Jade Forest, war with the terrible Yaungol on Kun-Lai Summit, and unlock the secrets of the Mogu'shan Vaults.
- Unleash the Mighty Pandaren - Set out as a member of the enigmatic Pandaren -- World of Warcraft's first neutral race -- and join the ranks of either the Horde or Alliance as you enter the conflict brewing on Pandaria's shores.
- Discover a Lost Continent - Explore the ancient kingdoms of Pandaria and mount your defense against a newly awakened evil stirring in the continent's dark corners.
Plan the appearance before confirming
- Choose the body type first if you care about facial-hair, earring or feather selections; those choices vary by body type.
- Use the skin-tone, face, eye, brow and ear controls to establish the base look before adding hair and feather details.
- Add tattoos and facial tattoos last so they complement, rather than compete with, the face and brow selections.
- Remember that faction identity is selected alongside the race. If you want Shaman, select Horde Windshaper; if you want Mage, select Alliance High-Order Skyborne.
Subscription, Game Time and edition contents
The race purchase and the time-to-play requirement are separate. A normal World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time gives access to Forever under Blizzard’s access terms, but it does not grant Skyborne. The Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher Forever edition supplies the race entitlement.
| Purchase or service | Skyborne race | Zephras Isle start | Forever play access | Game Time included |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Normal subscription or Game Time | No | No | Yes, subject to access terms | It is the access purchase itself, not a Skyborne unlock. |
| Skyborne Heroic Pack | Yes | Yes | Use an active subscription or Game Time as required | Not stated in the available product information. |
| Skyborne Epic Pack | Yes | Yes | Use included or separately purchased access as required | Blizzard lists 30 days of Game Time. |
| Warcraft Forever Collection | Yes, because it is a higher qualifying edition | Yes | Use included or separately purchased access as required | Blizzard lists 30 days of Game Time. |
Blizzard says gameplay outside an included 30-day period requires a subscription or additional Game Time. The 30-day inclusion is specifically listed for the Skyborne Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection in the supplied product details; do not assume the same inclusion for the Heroic Pack unless the current store listing says so.
Troubleshooting when Skyborne is unavailable
The race does not appear in character creation
- Confirm that the purchase was made on the Battle.net account currently signed into the launcher.
- Check that the edition is the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher Forever edition. Game Time alone does not satisfy the race requirement.
- Sign out of Battle.net completely, sign back in and relaunch the Forever client to refresh entitlements.
- Verify that the client is updated and that you are attempting to play after the November 4, 2026 launch date.
- If the store shows a completed purchase but the race remains locked, use Blizzard account support; do not buy the pack again before the first transaction is resolved.
Zephras Isle is not offered
Make sure you created a new Skyborne character after the qualifying entitlement was applied. The Zephras Isle introduction is part of the same access grant as the race, so a missing start usually points to an account, edition or entitlement-refresh problem rather than a separate quest purchase.

Faction and class are selected during character creation. Horde Windshapers can be Shaman, while Alliance High-Order Skyborne can be Mages; neither exclusive class is available on the other faction. If the class is the priority, delete or abandon the unstarted character only after checking your account’s character rules, then create the correct faction variant.
You can play Forever but Skyborne remains locked
This is the expected symptom when the account has subscription or Game Time access without a qualifying Forever edition. Playing the mode and unlocking the race are separate entitlements. Purchase the Heroic Pack or higher edition on the same account rather than adding more Game Time.
Which Skyborne variant should you choose?
- Choose Horde Windshaper if you want Shaman, prefer the Horde identity or value the movement and mounted-movement potential of Skysight.
- Choose Alliance High-Order Skyborne if you want Mage, prefer the Alliance identity or value the Health and Mana regeneration potential of Read Ley Line.
- Choose either faction for Warrior, Hunter, Rogue or Druid. Compare faction, story preference and the movement-versus-regeneration trade-off rather than expecting a different shared class list.
- Choose Skyborne at all when the Zephras Isle introduction, glide utility, 1% Haste, conditional Elemental damage bonus and appearance options fit your play style. No independent population, win-rate or overall performance statistic establishes that one Skyborne variant is universally superior.
Final checklist before you start
- It is November 4, 2026 or later.
- Your Battle.net account has the Skyborne Heroic Pack, Epic Pack, Warcraft Forever Collection or another higher qualifying Forever edition.
- Your subscription or Game Time is active for the period in which you plan to play.
- The launcher is signed into the same account that owns the edition.
- You have selected Horde Windshaper or Alliance High-Order Skyborne.
- Your class is permitted for that faction.
- You are ready to begin the Zephras Isle starting experience.
Once those checks pass, create the character and select Skyborne. The Heroic Pack-or-higher entitlement unlocks the race and its Zephras Isle start; the subscription or Game Time keeps the account eligible to play Forever.
