If you are searching for “Last Stand” in Company of Heroes 3, the mode you want is officially called Company of Heroes 3: Final Stand. It launched on PC through Steam on July 29, 2026, with update 2.5.0. Existing Company of Heroes 3 owners access it from their current game client; everyone else can buy Final Stand as a standalone Steam product. There is no campaign achievement or other prerequisite that unlocks access.
What “Last Stand” means in Company of Heroes 3
Relic Entertainment’s current name for the wave-defense mode is Final Stand, not Last Stand. Use that exact title when searching Steam or official announcements. The wording “Last Stand” can also refer to older modes in the Company of Heroes series, so those results may describe a different game or ruleset.

Final Stand is a roguelite wave-defense experience. You choose a faction, establish a force, defend against increasingly difficult enemy waves, and adapt to bosses and battlefield events. A run can end after 12 escalating waves, or you can select Endless Mode for a longer challenge. After waves, the game offers randomized units or abilities that apply to that run. Between runs, faction-specific progression trees provide persistent perks and abilities.

Do you need to own Company of Heroes 3?
No. There are two valid access routes, and prior ownership of another Company of Heroes title is not required.
| Your situation | What to do | What the official information confirms |
|---|---|---|
| You own Company of Heroes 3 | Update the existing game in Steam and launch Final Stand from that client. | No separate Final Stand installation and no game restart are required, according to Relic’s launch FAQ. |
| You do not own Company of Heroes 3 | Purchase and install the standalone Company of Heroes 3: Final Stand product on Steam. | It is a PC title; ownership of an earlier Company of Heroes game is not required. |
Relic states: “Players who already own Company of Heroes 3 will not have to install a separate product and will not have to restart their game to play Company of Heroes 3: Final Stand.” The statement appears in the official launch announcements and FAQ at Company of Heroes 3 official announcements and update notes.
How to access Final Stand if you own Company of Heroes 3
- Open Steam and find your existing Company of Heroes 3 installation. Final Stand is delivered through the Company of Heroes 3 client for current owners rather than as a second game download.
- Install the available update. Final Stand launched alongside update 2.5.0 on July 29, 2026. Let Steam finish updating before starting the game.
- Start Company of Heroes 3 normally. The official FAQ says an additional restart is not required for access. You should still allow any update already queued by Steam to complete.
- Choose Final Stand from the game’s available modes. Relic’s documentation confirms the access arrangement, but menu labels and layouts can change in later patches. If you do not see the mode, close any stale game session, confirm that Steam reports the game as fully updated, and start it again rather than looking for a separate Final Stand executable.
You do not need to finish a campaign, reach a level, or earn an achievement first. Access and in-mode progression are separate: ownership determines whether the mode is available, while perks and cosmetic rewards are earned by playing Final Stand.

- Open the official Steam listing. Use the Final Stand product page, not a similarly named older Company of Heroes mode.
- Check the platform before buying. The supplied official listings establish this release as a PC game on Steam. They do not establish console availability.
- Buy and install the standalone product. You do not need to own Company of Heroes 3 or another title in the franchise.
- Launch it from your Steam library. The standalone route provides the Final Stand experience directly; it is not an unlock code for a campaign or a requirement to purchase an older Company of Heroes game.

- Core gameplay players already love from Company of Heroes returns, where players win by outsmarting not out-clicking your opponents.
- Classic Mechanics have been improved with enhanced systems for cover, flanking, combined arms and richer environmental destruction mechanics.
- Innovative combat like breaching, verticality tactics, and sandbox focused missions will wow veteran Company of Heroes players.
- Dynamic Campaign Map mechanics introduce a more replayable campaign experience with long-term strategies and unprecedented choice.
- Full Tactical Pause lets players control the battlefield with time frozen for ultimate precision.
Choosing solo play or co-op
Final Stand supports single-player and cooperative play. At launch, Relic described co-op as a two-player format. A July 30 hot fix added a Browse Games lobby list so players could search open lobbies or create public or private games, then choose a map and difficulty. Because interface text can move between patches, use the current in-game lobby controls rather than expecting an exact button position from a launch screenshot.
For a solo run
- Select the single-player option when entering Final Stand.
- Choose a faction, battleground and difficulty that match your experience.
- Use each post-wave selection to strengthen the current run; randomized units and abilities are temporary unless a progression description says otherwise.
- Plan for escalation rather than treating the first wave as a normal skirmish. Later waves introduce stronger pressure, bosses and possible dynamic events.
For a two-player co-op run
- Open the co-op portion of Final Stand and use the lobby browser to find an open game or create one.
- When hosting, set the lobby to public or private and choose the battleground and difficulty before inviting or starting.
- Coordinate faction choices and temporary upgrades. Two players can divide defensive responsibilities, but both should understand which units or abilities are available only for the current run.
- Expect the difficulty to rise across waves. A strategy that survives the opening attacks may not cover boss waves or event-driven threats.
The official announcement confirms the launch two-player format and the later lobby-browser hot fix. It does not establish a universal player limit for every future patch.
How a Final Stand run works
1. Select a faction and scenario
The launch description names US Forces, Wehrmacht, British Forces and Deutsches Afrikakorps. Select the faction whose units and progression style you understand best; the official material does not claim that one faction is universally strongest. You then enter one of the available battlegrounds and select a difficulty level. Relic listed five battlegrounds and eight difficulty levels at launch, subject to later updates.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2. Survive escalating enemy waves
The core objective is defense. Enemy strength increases as the run continues, and the mode can introduce boss units and dynamic battlefield events. The standard structured run is 12 waves. If you want the mode to continue beyond that endpoint, choose Endless Mode when it is offered.
Rank #3
- Take command in real-time battles and take on a campaign as a general where every decision counts
3. Choose temporary rewards after waves
After waves, Final Stand presents randomized units or abilities. These selections belong to the current run, so treat them as tactical decisions rather than permanent account unlocks. Consider whether a choice fills an immediate defensive gap, improves your economy or mobility, or prepares you for an upcoming escalation.
4. Build around the threats you actually face
Bosses and dynamic events mean that a single static build is unlikely to cover every run. If an event changes the battlefield or a boss punishes a particular defense, use the next randomized choice to answer that threat. In co-op, communicate who is covering each approach so both players do not spend temporary rewards on the same role.
5. Carry lessons into the next run
When a run ends, its temporary units and abilities do not become a permanent collection. The lasting system is the faction-specific progression tree, where you earn perks and abilities between runs. This separation is the main reason to experiment: a failed run can still advance the faction you played.

How to unlock faction skins and other cosmetics
Final Stand’s persistent progression is tracked separately for each faction. To unlock a faction’s cosmetic set, earn 3,000 perk points for that faction. Playing another faction does not transfer those points to the one whose skin you want, so select the intended faction when you are working toward a particular set.
- Choose the faction whose cosmetic set you want.
- Play Final Stand runs with that faction and earn its perk points through the faction progression system.
- Continue until that faction reaches 3,000 perk points.
- Claim or equip the resulting set through the game’s cosmetic interface when it becomes available.
The official FAQ specifically excludes boss-unit cosmetics from these player unlocks. In other words, reaching 3,000 faction perk points unlocks the faction’s cosmetic set; it does not promise every boss appearance. Relic’s Final Stand news and FAQ provide the threshold and exclusion at the official Final Stand announcements page.
Final Stand cosmetics can be equipped in Company of Heroes 3 modes that normally support cosmetics, including multiplayer PvP, co-op, skirmish and custom games. Cosmetic availability in a particular mode can still depend on that mode’s own support and on later updates.
What is permanent and what resets?
| Element | During the current run | Between runs |
|---|---|---|
| Randomized units and abilities | Selected after waves and used to solve that run’s tactical problems. | Not described as permanent unlocks; they are tied to the run. |
| Faction perks and abilities | Influence the faction’s broader progression. | Persistent, faction-specific progression earned across runs. |
| Faction cosmetic set | Progress toward it is tracked for the selected faction. | Unlock threshold is 3,000 perk points for that faction. |
| Boss-unit cosmetics | Not included in the faction cosmetic-set reward described by the FAQ. | The FAQ does not state a player-unlock route for them. |
This distinction prevents a common misunderstanding: reaching wave 12, or surviving an Endless run, is not itself stated as the requirement for a skin. The documented cosmetic requirement is the faction’s 3,000-perk-point total.
Launch content and currentness notes
Relic’s launch description lists the following content:
Best Value
- Card Games for Adults: A game of terrible questions. A horrible game for terrible people. Perfect for parties, game nights, and many social gatherings.
- Maximum Replay Ability: There is a large variety of 300 cards, 225 white cards and 75 black cards. The card game is very replayable with tons of possibilities.
- Easy to Learn Rules: Game rules instruction is included. The rules are fairly simple, and it didn't take long for the group to understand the premise of the game and then to truly embrace it.
- This Card Game is for 17+ years old, great for 3 or more players. Generally the more players the better. Playtime is 30-90 mins.
- Know Your Family and Friends Better: This party game is fun, entertaining and you may discover things about your family and friends you didn't know before. It will make you and your friends and family get closer.
- Four factions: US Forces, Wehrmacht, British Forces and Deutsches Afrikakorps.
- Five battlegrounds.
- Eight difficulty levels.
- Thirty-six boss units.
- Eighteen dynamic events.
- A 12-wave structured run plus Endless Mode.
These are official launch-era counts from the Steam listing and launch announcements, not an independent audit. Final Stand is receiving updates, so a later patch may add maps, bosses, events, factions or difficulty options. For the most current list, compare the in-game selection screens with the live Steam description and Relic’s official update notes.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Planned three-player mode: what is known
As of October 13, 2026, Relic has announced update 3.0 for November 5, 2026. The announcement says Final Stand is planned to receive a three-player mode compatible with all battlegrounds, with difficulty scaling for the team. That date is an announced plan, not proof that the feature is already playable. If you are reading after November 5, check the official update notes for confirmation that update 3.0 shipped and for any changed requirements.
Until the release is confirmed, treat the documented launch co-op format as two players and use the current lobby browser to see what your installed build supports.
Access troubleshooting without guessing at menu labels
The mode is missing from an existing Company of Heroes 3 installation
- Confirm Steam finished the Company of Heroes 3 update associated with the Final Stand launch.
- Start the existing Company of Heroes 3 client; do not search for a second Final Stand download if you already own the base game.
- Close a session that was open before the update and relaunch it. Relic says no special restart is required for ownership, but a stale pre-update session may not display newly delivered content.
- Check the official announcements page for a later patch that changed access or temporarily affected the mode.
You bought Final Stand but cannot find it in Steam
- Use the exact product title, Company of Heroes 3: Final Stand, and the official store URL.
- Verify that the purchase is for the PC Steam product; the supplied listings do not establish console versions.
- Allow Steam to complete installation and any post-purchase update before launching.
You expected campaign unlocks or a franchise entitlement
There is no documented campaign or achievement gate. Existing Company of Heroes 3 owners receive access through their current client, while non-owners use the standalone product. The progression you earn after entering the mode is for perks, abilities and cosmetics, not for unlocking the right to launch it.
You cannot find a suitable co-op lobby
Use Browse Games to search open lobbies, or host a public or private game and specify the battleground and difficulty. The lobby-browser hot fix was released July 30, 2026; if your interface differs, rely on the options visible in your current build rather than an older guide’s menu path.
Which access route should you choose?
| If you… | Choose… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Already own Company of Heroes 3 | The existing Company of Heroes 3 client | It provides Final Stand without a separate install or separate restart requirement. |
| Only want the wave-defense mode | The standalone Final Stand Steam product | No prior Company of Heroes ownership is required. |
| Want to play with one friend | Co-op and the lobby browser | The launch format supports two-player co-op, with public and private lobby options added by hot fix. |
| Want a solo challenge | Single-player Final Stand | You can run the 12-wave structure or choose Endless Mode without forming a lobby. |
| Want three-player co-op now | Check the installed build and current notes first | The three-player mode was announced for November 5, 2026, so availability depends on whether update 3.0 has shipped. |
Quick checklist before your first run
- Search for Final Stand, the official name, rather than relying on the older “Last Stand” wording.
- Use the existing Company of Heroes 3 client if you already own it; otherwise use the standalone Steam listing.
- Update the game before launching.
- Pick solo or co-op, then select a faction, battleground and difficulty.
- Expect escalating waves, bosses and dynamic events.
- Use post-wave randomized units and abilities as temporary run decisions.
- Play the same faction repeatedly if you are pursuing its cosmetic set.
- Reach 3,000 perk points for that faction to unlock the documented faction cosmetic set.
- Do not count boss-unit cosmetics as part of that reward; the FAQ excludes them.
- Check Relic’s current announcements before relying on launch-era content counts or the planned three-player date.
Bottom line
“Last Stand” is the search phrase, but Company of Heroes 3: Final Stand is the official mode. Company of Heroes 3 owners get it through the updated game they already have, while other PC players can buy it standalone on Steam. Once inside, choose solo or co-op, survive escalating waves or Endless Mode, make temporary post-wave choices, and build persistent faction progression between runs. The documented faction-skin target is 3,000 perk points for the relevant faction, with boss cosmetics excluded.
