SEGA has announced the paid Avatar Legends Pack for October 14, 2026. That is a scheduled release date, not confirmation that the pack has launched on every platform or in every region. To use either racer, you will need the base game and either the Avatar Legends Pack or a Season Pass that includes it.
When can you play as Aang and Katara?
SEGA announced on October 8, 2026 that the Avatar Legends Pack is scheduled to release on October 14, 2026. The announcement was still describing the pack as upcoming at the October 13 UTC research time, so players checking before launch should not expect Aang or Katara to appear in the roster yet. The date is also subject to normal platform and regional rollout differences. What do you need to unlock them?
The access requirement has two parts:
- The base game: The Steam Season Pass listing says the pass requires Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. A pass or add-on is not a standalone copy of the racing game. See the requirement on Steam’s Season Pass listing.
- Avatar Legends content: Buy the Avatar Legends Pack itself, or own a Season Pass that includes that crossover wave. SEGA describes the Season Pass as unlocking crossover characters, courses and machines as they are released.
If you already own the base game, you do not need to purchase another copy of it. If you own only the base game, however, Aang and Katara will not become available without the pack or an eligible pass.

Which purchase route is right for you?
Your best route depends on whether you already own the game and whether you want the other crossover releases included in the pass. SEGA’s purchase guide says collaboration DLC can be purchased separately, while its Digital Deluxe Edition includes the Season Pass.

Prices, bundles and even whether the separate pack is displayed can vary by platform and territory. Use the current store page for your platform rather than relying on an old listing or a price from another region.
What is included in the Avatar Legends Pack?
The announced wave lists four pieces of content:
- Aang as a playable racer.
- Katara as a playable racer.
- Gliding Air, a machine.
- Lion Turtle Island, a course.
The Xbox listing also identifies Aang and Katara and the associated crossover content; you can compare the live platform description at Xbox’s Season Pass page. The Steam listing places the Avatar Legends release in October 2026, while SEGA’s announcement gives October 14 as the specific announced date.

How to prepare for release day
The exact in-game installation and character-selection procedure has not been documented in the official pages available before launch. You can still avoid the common ownership and installation problems by preparing at the platform level:
- Confirm the base game. Check that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is owned on the same platform account you will use for the DLC and that the game is installed or ready to install.
- Choose the content route. Decide between the Avatar Legends Pack and a Season Pass. If you are buying the Digital Deluxe Edition, confirm that it explicitly includes the pass before completing the purchase.
- Check the live store listing after the announced date. Search your platform’s store for the Avatar Legends Pack or Season Pass and read the edition, region and compatibility details shown there.
- Install any platform update or add-on. Use your platform’s normal game-update and downloadable-content management controls. The available button names differ by platform, so follow the instructions displayed by that platform rather than a guide written for another system.
- Launch only after the entitlement is recognized. If the store shows ownership but the game does not show the content, close and restart the game and allow pending updates to finish. Do not purchase a second copy until the platform’s transaction and add-on status are clear.
- Look for post-release instructions. The pre-release pages do not specify the menu used to select Aang or Katara. Once the pack is live, use the game’s official support information or on-screen instructions for the roster location.
These steps are preparation and platform checks, not a confirmed in-game unlock sequence. No official source reviewed before release says that you must win a race, reach a level, enter a code or complete a particular challenge.
What to do if Aang or Katara does not appear
The pack is not visible in the store
First check the date and time in your region. October 14 is SEGA’s announced date, but storefront publication can vary. Confirm that you are viewing the correct platform store and that your account region matches the listing. If the pack is still absent, wait for the store to publish it or consult the platform’s support page; do not treat an absent pre-release listing as evidence that the characters were removed.

You bought the Season Pass but not the game
The pass is an add-on and requires the base game. Install or purchase the game on the same account and platform. The Steam listing’s requirement is explicit, and other platforms may use different wording while enforcing the same basic dependency.

You own a pass but the DLC is locked
Check the transaction history and the add-on’s ownership status in your platform account. Confirm that the game and pass are the same edition family and region. A pass bought on one platform generally does not transfer automatically to another platform, so verify the account ecosystem before contacting support.
The game launches but the characters are missing
Finish all game updates, restart the title and verify that the Avatar Legends add-on is installed or enabled in the platform’s downloadable-content controls. If the store confirms ownership and the add-on is installed but the racers remain unavailable, use the game publisher’s post-release support instructions. The pre-release announcements do not provide a guaranteed menu path or a separate unlock condition.
You expected extra abilities or a free unlock
The Avatar Legends Pack is paid DLC. The announced content does not say that Aang or Katara can be earned through ordinary gameplay, nor does it publish their performance attributes. Ownership of the pack or an eligible pass is the established access requirement.
Do you need the Season Pass specifically?
No. The Season Pass is one route, not the only route. You can obtain the Avatar Legends Pack separately where your platform and region offer it. The pass is useful if you also want the other crossover characters, courses and machines released under the pass. SEGA’s guide describes those pass benefits as content that unlocks when each collaboration comes out.

If you are buying the game for the first time, compare the total cost and included content of the Digital Deluxe Edition with the standard game plus a separate pack. If you already own the base game and only want Aang and Katara, compare the separately listed Avatar Legends Pack with the pass rather than buying a second full edition.
