To unlock an alternate costume in Street Fighter 6, first identify its tier and the character’s current unlock route. Outfit 2 is obtained through World Tour for the characters that support that route, bought instantly with Fighter Coins, or— for some newer fighters—earned through a character-specific mode such as Avatar Arcade. Outfit 3 follows a separate rule: Capcom France says it is purchase-only and cannot be unlocked through World Tour. Once you own a costume, select the fighter at character select and choose the owned outfit using the on-screen prompt for your platform.
How the Street Fighter 6 costume system works
Street Fighter 6 does not use one universal unlock rule for every alternate appearance. The first distinction is the costume tier. Outfit 2 is the original alternate-costume tier associated with the launch roster and later characters that use the established system. Outfit 3 is a separate tier with its own purchase rules. Newer fighters can also receive a character-specific announcement that adds another gameplay route.

That means a guide that says “play World Tour to unlock every costume” is incomplete. Capcom’s May 31, 2023 announcement established World Tour and Fighter Coins as Outfit 2 routes, but the roster and systems have expanded since launch. The current character announcement or the unlock screen in your game takes priority for a newer fighter. For example, Capcom’s official announcement archive says that Arjun’s Outfit 2 is earned by maxing his Acquisition Gauge in Avatar Arcade Mode or by using Fighter Coins: Capcom’s Street Fighter 6 announcement archive.
Before you try to unlock a costume
- Confirm the tier. Check whether the menu names the item Outfit 2 or Outfit 3. Do not assume that a route for one tier applies to the other.
- Identify the character’s current instructions. Launch-era fighters may follow the World Tour process, while a newer character may list a different activity. Read the character’s in-game information or the latest official announcement.
- Have an online connection available for Outfit 2 acquisition. Capcom’s launch announcement specifically says an online server connection is required to obtain the Outfit 2 costume.
- Separate ownership from equipment. Buying or earning a costume does not automatically put it on the fighter in every mode. You still select the outfit at character select.
- Check whether a pass is involved. An Ultimate Pass can include costumes, but Capcom Town Store says the base game must be purchased separately to use a Character or Ultimate Pass.
Unlocking Outfit 2 through World Tour
What Capcom’s World Tour route covers
Capcom’s official Street Fighter 6 announcement from May 31, 2023 says: “Unlock Outfit 2 for each character during your adventures in World Tour.” In practical terms, you progress through World Tour and develop the relevant master relationship for the fighter whose costume you want. The announcement confirms World Tour as the route but does not specify one universal gift, bond value, mission, or number of hours that applies to every character.

Because the exact in-game requirement can differ by master, use the World Tour information shown for that character rather than relying on a fixed checklist from an older guide. If the game displays a relationship objective, follow that objective; if the character’s current announcement names another activity, use the newer instruction instead.
World Tour process
- Open World Tour and locate the relevant master. The master must be available to your avatar before the relationship-based route can progress.
- Advance the relationship using the activities the game presents. The official announcement does not establish a universal gift list or threshold, so do not treat a particular item or bond number as mandatory for every fighter.
- Watch the character’s unlock information. The game should indicate when the Outfit 2 requirement has been met or when the costume has been awarded.
- Allow the game to connect to its online services. Capcom states that an online server connection is required to obtain Outfit 2, even when the route begins with World Tour progress.
- Return to character select and equip the costume. Unlocking and equipping are separate actions; use the selection flow described below.
There is no official universal time-to-unlock figure in the available guidance. Your progress can depend on where you are in World Tour and what the specific character’s current requirement asks you to do, so claims that World Tour is always the fastest or cheapest route are not established.
Unlocking Outfit 2 with Fighter Coins
The paid alternative
Capcom’s May 31, 2023 announcement also states: “Alternatively, Outfit 2 also can be purchased instantly with Fighter Coins.” This is the direct paid route named by Capcom for Outfit 2. The same announcement repeats that an online server connection is required to obtain the costume: Capcom’s May 31, 2023 Outfit 2 announcement.
What the announcement does not establish
- It does not provide a single Fighter Coin price that can be applied to every character, region, platform, or later release.
- It does not prove that every future fighter will use exactly the same purchase screen.
- It does not establish that Fighter Coins are always cheaper or faster than playing World Tour.
Therefore, open the current purchase screen for the exact character and costume before spending currency. Verify that the item is labelled Outfit 2, that the listed Fighter Coin amount is current for your region and platform, and that your game is connected to the online service needed to complete the acquisition.
Newer characters may use a character-specific route
Arjun: Avatar Arcade example
Character-specific instructions matter because the roster is no longer limited to the launch-era process. In Capcom’s official announcement archive, Arjun’s Outfit 2 is described this way: “Earn this outfit by maxing his Acquisition Gauge in Avatar Arcade Mode or with Fighter Coins.” That makes Avatar Arcade an official Outfit 2 route for Arjun, not a rule you should automatically apply to every fighter.

- Open the Arjun information or unlock screen. Confirm that the Acquisition Gauge is the requirement currently shown for his Outfit 2.
- Enter Avatar Arcade Mode. Play the mode tied to the gauge rather than substituting World Tour activities.
- Continue until the Acquisition Gauge is maxed. The announcement specifies the maximum gauge as the condition; it does not state a universal number of matches or a fixed time.
- Check that the outfit is credited to your account. The online-service requirement associated with costume acquisition still applies where the game requests a server connection.
- Equip Outfit 2 at character select. Use the platform’s on-screen control prompt instead of assuming a PlayStation, Xbox, PC, or Switch 2 button.
How to handle another newly announced fighter
When a new character’s costume is unavailable through the route you expected, look for that fighter’s current announcement in the official announcement archive and inspect the in-game unlock panel. A character-specific activity, gauge, or bundle may supersede the launch-era World Tour wording. This check is more reliable than copying a requirement from a different fighter.
Outfit 3 has different unlock rules
Do not treat Outfit 3 as a later step in the World Tour process. Capcom France states that Outfit 3 costumes are purchase-only and cannot be unlocked through World Tour: Capcom France’s Outfit 3 information. If you want Outfit 3, use the purchase option shown for the character or the eligible bundle; World Tour progress will not substitute for that purchase according to Capcom France.
The purchase-only rule also means that an Outfit 2 unlock does not grant Outfit 3. They are separate costume tiers with separate ownership checks. Before buying, confirm the item name in the store or pass description so you do not mistake an Outfit 2 entitlement for Outfit 3.
Can an Ultimate Pass include the costume you want?
Capcom Town Store’s June 29, 2026 information lists Outfit 2 and Outfit 3 costumes among the contents of the Years 1–4 Ultimate Passes. The same store information says that the base game must be owned separately to use a Character or Ultimate Pass: Capcom Town Store pass details.

The available sources do not establish a complete regional price comparison or a universal unlock-time comparison. Choose based on the exact character, costume tier, route currently offered, whether you already own a relevant pass, and whether you want to spend Fighter Coins or play for the unlock.

How to equip an owned alternate costume
General character-select flow
Once the costume is credited to your game, equip it from character selection:
- Open the mode that uses standard character select. This can be the mode in which you want to play the fighter.
- Highlight the desired character. Make sure you are selecting the same fighter whose costume you unlocked.
- Open the outfit choice shown on the character-select screen. The exact control prompt is displayed by the game and can differ by platform and screen.
- Choose the owned Outfit 2 or Outfit 3 entry. Locked entries remain unavailable; an owned entry can be selected.
- Confirm the selection and continue. If the mode has separate color settings, choose the color after selecting the outfit.
Capcom’s official Street Fighter 6 web manual explains that outfit and color preferences can be read from the character-select screen when using compatible amiibo features: Capcom’s Street Fighter 6 web manual. That supports the general location of the setting, but the manual does not provide one controller-by-controller costume tutorial for PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Switch 2. Follow the on-screen prompt rather than relying on a button label from another platform. Check the tier and character
First confirm that you purchased or earned the same tier you are trying to equip. An Outfit 2 entitlement will not unlock Outfit 3. Also confirm that the selected fighter matches the character named in the ownership screen; costumes are character-specific.
Check the route you used
If you expected World Tour to unlock the costume, verify that the current character still lists World Tour rather than a newer character-specific activity. For Arjun, the official route is the Avatar Arcade Acquisition Gauge, not an unspecified World Tour relationship task.
Check the online connection
Capcom’s Outfit 2 announcement requires an online server connection to obtain the costume. If the game has not connected to its service, an otherwise completed route may not be credited until the acquisition can be confirmed online.

Check pass ownership and base-game ownership
If the costume is expected from an Ultimate Pass, inspect the pass’s current content list and verify that the relevant character and outfit are included. Capcom Town Store specifically says the base game is a separate purchase required to use a Character or Ultimate Pass.
Check current official information
Costume availability and unlock paths can change with updates and new character releases. Use the current in-game menu and Capcom’s announcement archive rather than an undated community post when the two appear to disagree.
Choosing the right route
- Choose World Tour when the character’s current screen lists that route and you prefer play-based progress over a direct purchase.
- Choose Avatar Arcade or another named mode when the character’s official instructions identify it as the requirement. Arjun’s maxed Acquisition Gauge is the documented example.
- Choose Fighter Coins when the current purchase screen lists the Outfit 2 you want and you value immediate acquisition over gameplay progress.
- Check an Ultimate Pass first if you already own one or are considering a pass that explicitly includes the character’s Outfit 2 or Outfit 3.
- Do not plan World Tour for Outfit 3. Capcom France identifies Outfit 3 as purchase-only.
There is no evidence here for a universal best route. The relevant variables are the desired fighter, the costume tier, the character’s current supported activity, your existing pass ownership, Fighter Coin availability, and whether your copy can connect to the online service.
Important limits on platform and account assumptions
The official material does not provide a single button sequence that can be guaranteed across every supported platform. Menus may display different controller prompts, and the evidence does not establish cross-platform synchronization behavior for costume ownership. Treat the costume as available when the current game account and platform show it as owned, then use that platform’s prompt at character select.
Likewise, do not infer a Fighter Coin amount, regional price, unlock duration, or exact relationship threshold from another player’s version of the game. Those details are not established by the cited announcements and can change with content updates. The durable process is to identify the tier, read the character-specific requirement, complete the supported route or purchase, connect online when required, and equip the owned item at character select.
