To uninstall a downloaded app on a Samsung Galaxy phone, open the Apps screen, touch and hold the app icon, tap Uninstall, then confirm using the button shown on your phone. If there is no Uninstall option, the app may be preinstalled: check whether you can disable it or hide it instead.
Uninstall a downloaded app from the Apps screen
- From the Home screen, swipe up or down to open the Apps screen.
- Touch and hold the icon of the app you want to remove.
- Tap Uninstall.
- Confirm by tapping OK or Uninstall, depending on the prompt on your phone.
Samsung’s instructions for Galaxy devices sold in Canada and its US guide describe this long-press method. The confirmation label and available actions can vary by model and software version. Why some apps have no Uninstall button
Samsung does not offer the same removal options for every preinstalled app. Some can be uninstalled; others can only be disabled or hidden; and certain essential apps cannot be deleted. Samsung UK names Phone, Messages, Contacts, Gallery, and My Files as examples of essential apps required for basic device functions. Available actions depend on the app and device configuration. Samsung documents the hide option under Apps screen > More > Settings > Hide apps on Home and Apps screens. Select the app and tap Done. If your menus differ, the option may not be available on your model or software version.

Find the available action in Settings
If the long-press menu does not show the option you need, open Settings > Apps and select the app. The actions available on its app-info screen show whether it can be uninstalled, disabled, or enabled. Samsung’s regional guides note that menu labels and routes can vary by model, software version, app version, and regional device configuration.
Re-enable an app you disabled
- Open Settings > Apps.
- Select the disabled app.
- Tap Enable.

Uninstalling, clearing cache, and clearing data are different
Uninstalling removes the app. Clearing cache removes temporary files, while clearing data resets the app and deletes its saved settings and data. If you are troubleshooting an app rather than removing it, clearing cache may be a less disruptive first step; before clearing data, make sure you have any account details or other information needed to set the app up again. If you reinstall an app from the Play Store or Galaxy Store, you may need to sign in or configure it again. Uninstalling and reinstalling are not a guarantee that an app-related problem or security issue has been resolved. Samsung Canada’s guide, last updated June 10, 2026, notes that setup may be needed after reinstallation; it applies to devices sold in Canada.

If you are removing a suspicious app
Samsung’s US troubleshooting guidance for unwanted ads or other issues after installing third-party apps describes removing the suspected app through Settings > Apps and using Device care diagnostics to review apps flagged as security risks. Treat removal as one troubleshooting action, not proof that a security incident is fully resolved.
