First, identify what happened
“Undo” can mean two different things: reversing an assistant’s just-completed action, or restoring a message later from a mail folder. The right path depends on whether the email was archived or deleted, and on which mail service and app you use.

These are provider-specific instructions, not one universal AI-assistant recovery process. An assistant’s undo control may only be available briefly; later recovery usually uses the email service’s own folders.
Gemini in Gmail: use Undo, then check the right folder
Google says a confirmed Gemini-in-Gmail action can be undone for 60 seconds. If you have just confirmed the action, choose Undo as soon as it appears. Sending another prompt or letting the 60-second window expire removes that undo option. Google also says: “Your emails are never deleted, archived, labeled, or marked read or unread until you explicitly confirm to Gemini that you want to process the action.” Google’s Gemini in Gmail help describes the confirmation and undo behavior.

If Gemini archived the email
- In Gmail, open All Mail, or search
in:archive. - Find and select the message.
- Choose Move to Inbox.
Google’s Gmail archive instructions explain that archived messages remain in All Mail. If someone replies to an archived thread, the thread returns to the inbox.
If Gemini deleted one or more emails
- Open Gmail’s Trash.
- Select the message or messages.
- Choose the option to move them to the inbox or another folder.
Gmail says Trash messages are automatically deleted after 30 days. If Undo has expired, recover deleted messages from Trash before that retention period ends. See Google’s Gmail message deletion and recovery instructions.

Outlook: check Deleted Items and, if available, Recoverable Items
Start with Deleted Items; check Junk Email too if the message may have been filtered there. Outlook recovery steps and availability vary by version and account. Microsoft’s Outlook recovery guide separates instructions for Outlook on the web, new Outlook, and classic Outlook, so select the version you use before following its steps.

- Open Deleted Items.
- If the message is no longer there, select Recover items deleted from this folder.
- In Recoverable Items, select the message and restore it.
If the message is still in Deleted Items, select it and move it to the inbox or another folder. Microsoft does not promise recovery after an item has been permanently removed; the available recovery path depends on the Outlook version and account.

Yahoo Mail: restore from Trash or submit a limited request
If the message is still in Trash
- Open Trash in New Yahoo Mail.
- Select the message.
- Choose Restore to Inbox.
These steps are for New Yahoo Mail.
If it is missing from Trash
Yahoo allows a restore request for messages deleted or missing within the last seven days, but submitting a request does not guarantee recovery. Yahoo says the request cannot be canceled. Recovered messages may return to their earlier folder; Trash messages go to Inbox, as do messages from Sent, Archive, and custom folders. Spam and Draft messages are not restored through this request. See Yahoo’s instructions for recovering lost or deleted emails.

If you mean the assistant’s own conversation rather than an email message, use that service’s chat-history controls. In ChatGPT, an archived conversation remains accessible under Archived chats and can be unarchived. A deleted conversation—including one removed with Delete all chats—cannot be restored. OpenAI’s chat deletion and archiving help covers these controls.

Deleting a ChatGPT conversation does not itself delete the original data in a connected app. Disconnecting an app prevents future access but does not remove past conversations that already used its data. These rules concern ChatGPT conversation history, not email folders.

What to do if you cannot find the message
- Search before assuming it is gone. Check the archive or All Mail as well as the inbox, Trash, and Deleted Items.
- Check the service and app version. Outlook’s recovery options differ by version, and an AI assistant’s undo control is not the same as the email provider’s restore process.
- Act within the provider’s stated window. Gmail automatically deletes Trash messages after 30 days; Yahoo’s restore-request eligibility is limited to messages deleted or missing within the last seven days. Those limits do not establish a universal recovery period for other services.
- Do not treat recovery as guaranteed. Yahoo says requests may not succeed, and Microsoft does not promise recovery after permanent removal.
