Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →If YouTube won’t load, first find out whether your internet connection is down, a setting is filtering content, an organization or mobile provider is restricting access, or your app is no longer supported. The right fix depends on who controls the restriction. These seven routes are based on YouTube and Google support guidance; they were not independently tested and are not instructions for bypassing rules set by a school, employer, parent, provider, or government.
Start by identifying what is blocking access
An error opening YouTube does not prove that YouTube itself is blocked. Check whether other websites load on the same device and connection. YouTube lists a connection problem as one possible cause and advises users who suspect a network administrator or ISP restriction to contact them (YouTube Help: Can’t access YouTube).

- YouTube loads but shows Restricted Mode: check whether the setting is user-controlled or managed.
- A work or school account says access is restricted by an administrator: the organization’s administrator controls whether YouTube is enabled.
- A video is unavailable only in an organization: ask whether an authorized approver can share it.
- A mobile app reports that content is unavailable: check whether the app is supported and up to date.
- The restriction appears on mobile data: check with the carrier about content filtering.
A setting or permission change will not fix a general connection outage, and updating an app will not override an organization’s decision to disable YouTube.

1. Check whether your internet connection is working
Open a few unrelated websites using the same device and network. If they also fail, troubleshoot the connection rather than treating the problem as a YouTube-specific block. Contact the internet provider or the person responsible for the network if you cannot restore access. YouTube’s guidance says a network administrator or ISP may be blocking YouTube and recommends contacting them to learn more (YouTube Help).
2. Check Restricted Mode
Restricted Mode is an optional YouTube setting that filters potentially mature content. It is not the same as an age restriction on a particular video, and it may be locked by account, organization, or network controls (YouTube Help: Turn Restricted Mode on or off).

When you control the setting
On desktop, sign in to YouTube, open your profile menu, select Restricted Mode, and turn it off if the control is available. The setting filters content; it does not necessarily explain why all of YouTube is inaccessible.

When the setting is locked
Open YouTube’s content restrictions page to check whether restrictions are associated with your account or network. If an administrator or provider manages the setting, ask that authority about access rather than trying to evade it. Restricted Mode eligibility and age-related rules can depend on the user’s country or region.

3. Ask the administrator about a managed account
If a Google Workspace work or school account reports that access is restricted by the administrator, YouTube says the organization’s domain administrator has not enabled YouTube as a service. An ordinary account user cannot change that service setting; contact the organization’s administrator (Google Workspace Admin Help; YouTube Help).
4. Have an authorized administrator review organization access
For an organization that intends to provide access, a Google Workspace administrator with appropriate rights can enable YouTube for selected users. Google Workspace for Education administrators can also manage restricted or approved-content settings and assign video approvers (Google Workspace Admin Help; Google Workspace for Education guidance).

- The Google TV Streamer (4K) delivers your favorite entertainment quickly, easily, and personalized to you[1,2]
- HDMI 2.1 cable required (sold separately)
- See movies and TV shows from all your services right from your home screen[2]; and find new things to watch with tailored recommendations for everyone in your home based on their interests and viewing habits
- Watch live TV and access over 800 free channels from Pluto TV, Tubi, and more[3]; if you find an interesting show or movie on your TV, mobile app, or Google search, you can easily add it to your watchlist, so it’s ready when you are[2]
- Up to 4K HDR with Dolby Vision delivers captivating, true-to-life detail[4]; and you can connect speakers that support Dolby Atmos for more immersive 3D sound
Education users designated as under 18 remain unable to access 18+ content even when unrestricted access is granted. The administrator should follow the organization’s policy and Google’s age-related rules, not use access settings to circumvent them.
5. Request approval for a specific school or work video
If an organization restricts viewing but the video is needed for an approved purpose, ask an authorized approver to review it. An approver can approve a video or channel; signed-in users in that organization can then play it using the shared link. Approval does not make the video appear in YouTube search, the home page, or recommendations (Google Workspace Admin Help: Manage YouTube access).

6. Switch to a supported YouTube app or browser
If an app displays “The following content is not available on this app,” the issue may be that the app is unsupported rather than a network block. YouTube recommends using its official app or youtube.com in a browser, and updating the official app when an update is available. On older devices that cannot update the app, try m.youtube.com in the device’s browser. Availability depends on the device and its support status (YouTube Help: unsupported apps).
7. Contact your mobile provider about content filters
Some mobile providers filter content. YouTube’s content restrictions page can indicate whether network restrictions apply; if it shows moderate or strict DNS filtering, YouTube directs users to contact the mobile provider about managing or disabling that setting (YouTube content restrictions page; YouTube Help: Restricted Mode). Ask the carrier what filter is active and whether it can be changed on your account. This applies to a provider-controlled filter, not a school or employer policy using a network you do not administer.
What to do when none of these routes fits
If YouTube alone fails but Restricted Mode, an administrator message, an app-support error, and a carrier filter do not explain it, record the exact error, device, app or browser, and connection type. Contact YouTube support or the person responsible for the network with those details. These routes address documented connection, settings, permissions, provider-filter, and app-support issues; they do not establish a fix for government restrictions or regional video availability.
