You can turn podcast episodes into a continuous YouTube Live radio stream by playing an ordered playlist through an encoder connected to YouTube Live Control Room. First confirm live streaming is enabled, prepare episodes and visuals you have rights to use, then connect the encoder with your stream URL and key. The stream runs only while the chosen computer, cloud service, or dedicated hardware keeps it going; YouTube does not provide a native “podcast radio” switch.
Choose how the stream will run
YouTube’s encoder workflow supports software encoders, hardware encoders, and cloud tools for continuous prerecorded video. YouTube’s guide lists Gyre as a cloud option and AJA HELO Plus with PlayToStream scheduling for prerecorded media. Neither is required for a basic stream, and the cited guidance does not establish comparative uptime or current prices.
| Operating method | What it means | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Software encoder on a computer | The computer plays the episode playlist and sends the live feed to YouTube. | You need to keep the computer, network connection, and playback process operating. |
| Cloud streaming service | A service sends uploaded prerecorded media to YouTube from the cloud. | It can remove the need to leave a home computer running; compare current service features and terms before choosing. |
| Dedicated hardware | A purpose-built encoder can schedule prerecorded media; YouTube’s guide names AJA HELO Plus and its PlayToStream function. | It is a specialized option, not a prerequisite. The cited source does not state its current price. |
For a do-it-yourself setup, use a software encoder that can play your media and send an encoder stream to YouTube. The steps below describe the YouTube side of the process; encoder-specific playlist controls depend on the software you choose.
Check that your channel can go live
- Sign in to YouTube and open YouTube Studio to check your channel’s live-streaming eligibility and status.
- If you have not enabled live streaming before, verify the channel and request activation early. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. The channel must have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Do not schedule the launch around an assumption that activation is instant; confirm the feature is available before preparing a broadcast.
Prepare episodes, rights, and the on-screen presentation
Build a playback playlist
Put episodes in the order you want them heard and confirm each file plays through to its ending. Decide whether episodes should repeat and how transitions should sound. These are production choices: YouTube’s encoder documentation explains connecting and starting a stream but does not prescribe a podcast playlist format.

Check every included right
Owning the podcast feed or recording does not necessarily give you every right needed for a YouTube broadcast. Check permissions for guest contributions, music, artwork, clips, and other included material. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights, including applicable music rights; review the livestream terms and conditions.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party copyrighted content. A match can lead to a placeholder, interruption, or termination. If you have a licence for third-party content, ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel through Content ID; a licence alone may not prevent an automated interruption. Claims can also arise after a stream ends if it is archived. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Make the stream understandable without a camera
Use a visual layout that identifies the show and, where useful, the current episode. Podcast cover art, the episode title, and a simple “now playing” treatment can help viewers understand what is on. Treat this as a production recommendation, not a YouTube requirement. Confirm that you have permission to use the artwork and any other displayed material.
Create the YouTube Live stream and connect your encoder
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one for later. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes this flow.
- In the stream setup, copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your stream. Do not show it in a screen recording or share it publicly.
- Open your encoder’s stream settings and enter the YouTube stream URL and key in the corresponding server/URL and key fields. Add the prepared episode playlist and visual output using that encoder’s controls.
- Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that the picture appears, the audio is audible and correctly balanced, and the intended episode is playing before you promote the stream.
- Start the live broadcast from the encoder/Live Control Room workflow. Keep the chosen operating method running and monitor the stream for playback or connection problems.
Plan the archive for a continuous broadcast
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not promise one complete replay for a continuous broadcast longer than that, so do not rely on a single uninterrupted archive for a stream that exceeds the threshold. If you need episode replays, preserve and publish the episode recordings separately rather than treating the live archive as your only copy.

Understand monetization separately from the ability to stream
A technically successful continuous broadcast is not a shortcut to YouTube Partner Program eligibility. YouTube applies its channel monetization policies to live streams and reviews whether a channel provides original and authentic value. Permission to use material and copyright status are separate from that monetization assessment: having permission does not by itself guarantee eligibility, and the absence of a copyright claim does not prove a channel meets monetization rules.
YouTube’s policy page says its July 15, 2025 update clarified the existing rule around repetitive or mass-produced content and renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content.” Present your show clearly and add meaningful original value; do not assume that replaying episodes continuously guarantees monetization. See YouTube channel monetization policies.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Live streaming is unavailable | The feature has not been enabled, verification is incomplete, a restriction applies, or first-time activation is still processing. | Check the channel’s status in YouTube Studio, verify eligibility, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. |
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed | The stream URL or key is missing or entered incorrectly, or the encoder is not sending. | Copy the current URL and key from the stream setup again, check the encoder’s stream settings, and confirm it is running. |
| Video appears but audio does not | The playlist file or encoder audio output may be silent, muted, or routed incorrectly. | Play the source episode locally, check the encoder’s audio meters and output selection, then verify audio in the YouTube preview. |
| The stream is interrupted or replaced with a placeholder | YouTube may have detected third-party copyrighted content. | Review the episode, music, clips, and artwork rights. If licensed material is involved, contact the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting. |
| The broadcast ends when you leave | A local computer or playback process stopped, or the connection failed. | Check that the computer, encoder, network, and playlist process remain active; consider a cloud or dedicated-hardware operating model if you do not want a home computer to run continuously. |
| The long broadcast is not available as one complete replay | The stream exceeded YouTube’s stated under-12-hour automatic archive threshold. | Keep episode masters separately and plan the live schedule around the archive behavior you need. |
