You can’t enable mobile live streaming with a toggle in the YouTube Studio app. YouTube’s current mobile setup flow is in the regular YouTube app: first make sure your channel meets the eligibility rules and live streaming is enabled, then open YouTube, tap Create → Live, set up the broadcast and tap Go live.
What you need before going live on a phone
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. To stream from a mobile device, your channel must also have at least 50 subscribers. YouTube says creators must be at least 16 years old to live stream. See YouTube’s general live-streaming requirements and its mobile live-streaming requirements.

- Verify your channel if you have not already.
- Check that the channel has at least 50 subscribers for mobile streaming.
- Make sure the channel has no live-streaming restrictions from the previous 90 days.
- Use a device running Android 8.0 or later, or iOS 8 or later, as specified on YouTube’s mobile help page.
- If this is your first time turning on live streaming, allow up to 24 hours for activation. YouTube gives this as a possible wait, not a guaranteed activation time.
Start a live stream in the YouTube app
- Open the YouTube app on your phone or tablet and sign in to the channel you intend to stream from.
- Tap Create, then tap Live.
- Enter the stream details. Choose the visibility and audience settings that fit your broadcast. You can schedule a mobile stream, or choose the screencast option if you want to broadcast your device screen.
- When you are ready to broadcast, tap Go live.
- When finished, tap Finish. YouTube creates an archive on your channel; you can change its privacy setting later or delete the archive.
The mobile create-and-go-live steps above are YouTube’s instructions for the regular YouTube app. YouTube Studio can be used to manage live streams and some controls, but the official mobile creation flow is not a Studio-app enablement toggle.

Choose the streaming method that fits your broadcast
YouTube supports several ways to stream. The right choice depends on whether you are broadcasting from a phone, computer, console or a more involved production setup.

YouTube recommends trying a test stream. Its live-streaming tips say, “You do not need expensive equipment, what you have at hand will do.” A phone or tablet is enough to try mobile streaming; buying production gear will not remove an account eligibility restriction. If you can’t find the Live option
- Channel not verified: Complete channel verification, then check the YouTube app again.
- Fewer than 50 subscribers: YouTube’s mobile-streaming threshold is at least 50 subscribers. A different app or extra equipment will not bypass it.
- Recent live-streaming restriction: Review whether the channel has had a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days. YouTube requires a clean 90-day restriction history.
- First-time activation still pending: YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours. If that period has not passed, wait and try again; the stated wait is not a promise of activation at an exact time.
- Unsupported device software: Check that the device meets the Android 8.0+ or iOS 8+ requirement listed by YouTube.
- Wrong app or account: The documented phone workflow is in the YouTube app, and it must be signed in to the eligible channel. Switching to Studio is not an alternative mobile creation path in YouTube’s instructions.
