How to Turn On Your Samsung Monitor: A Complete Guide

To turn on a Samsung monitor, connect the supplied power cord firmly to the monitor and to a working outlet, then press the monitor’s power button. On some models that button sits at the bottom edge of the panel, and some models also respond to a remote. Button placement varies by model, so the exact control depends on your monitor’s model code.

The most useful first distinction is whether the monitor has power at all. If the power LED stays off, the problem is in the power path. If the LED glows but the screen stays black, the problem is usually the video signal, the cable, or the selected input.

Start with the power path

Work through these steps in order. Each one rules out a cause before you move to the next.

  1. Seat the power cord at both ends. Push the cord fully into the monitor’s power input and into the wall outlet or power strip. A partly seated plug is one of the most common reasons a monitor appears dead.
  2. Press the power control. On models with a bottom-mounted control, press the button labeled “Power button / Remote control sensor” on the front bottom edge. On applicable models, you can use the remote’s power button instead. Samsung’s guidance is to use the remote power button where it applies, or the panel button at the bottom.
  3. Read the power LED. A glowing LED means the monitor is receiving power and has started. An LED that stays off means power is not reaching the monitor’s internal circuits, and you should follow the LED checks below.

What the power LED tells you

Samsung India Support’s no-power troubleshooting guide opens with the instruction: “Check whether the LED light of the monitor is glowing or not.” Use the LED as the decision point:

  • LED off: Unplug the cord from the monitor and from the outlet, wait a few seconds, then reconnect it at both ends and try again.

  • Outlet works, monitor still off: The fault is most likely in the monitor or its power supply. Contact Samsung support and quote your model code.
  • LED on, screen blank: The monitor has power. Move to the signal checks in the next section.

Where the power button is: the model decides

There is no single button location that applies to every Samsung monitor. Samsung’s control-panel guidance places the power button at the bottom of these model families:

  • S24AM50
  • S27AM50
  • S32AM50
  • S32AM70
  • S43AM70

If your model is not in this list, do not assume the button is in the same place. Some models have a different panel layout, and some do not include a remote. Check the manual for your exact model code before pressing anything you cannot find.

When the monitor has power but the screen is blank

A monitor can be fully powered and still show nothing. In that case, the picture is not reaching the screen, which usually means the cable, the input selection, or the connected computer or device is the problem. Samsung’s US guidance on blank displays suggests this sequence:

  1. Open the on-screen menu. Press a monitor button to bring up the menu. If the menu appears, the panel is working and the problem is in the input signal.
  2. Reseat the video cable at both ends. Disconnect and firmly reconnect the cable at the monitor and at the computer or device.
  3. Use one video cable. Connect a single video cable between the monitor and the source while you test, so you are not troubleshooting between two competing connections.
  4. Select the matching input source. In the on-screen menu, choose the input that corresponds to the port the cable is plugged into, such as HDMI or DisplayPort.
Symptom What it points to Next check
LED off, monitor does not respond Power path: cord, outlet, or monitor power supply Reseat cord, test outlet with another appliance, then contact Samsung support
LED on, on-screen menu appears, no picture Input selection or video signal Select the input matching the connected port, then reseat the video cable
LED on, on-screen menu does not appear Panel or monitor fault, or a source that is not sending a signal Test with a different device or cable, then use Samsung’s model support options

Find the model-specific manual and support path

Samsung directs users to its support site, where you can search by monitor model code. The results point to the correct manual, troubleshooting steps, warranty information, and repair options for that model. Model codes are printed on the product label, so have one ready before you start searching. This guide describes Samsung’s US and India support guidance; for any control or power requirement that differs from what you see on your monitor, the model manual takes precedence.

Replacing a missing or damaged power cord

Only consider a replacement cord after the reseating and outlet checks above have failed to restore power. Samsung’s service manual states: “Only use the power cord provided with your product by Samsung.” Samsung’s documentation does not establish one universal replacement cable for all of its monitors, so confirm the plug type and power-input fit against your exact model manual before buying a cord.
