Turn on GTA 6 keyword muting on X
Open the muted-words menu
- Open the Notifications tab in X.
- Tap or click the gear icon.
- Choose Muted, then select Muted words.
- Select Add to create a rule.
The labels are the path documented by X. Depending on your app version, the gear may be shown at the top of the Notifications screen; on the web, the same controls are available from the Notifications settings area.
Add one term per rule

Choose where and how long to mute
- When adding each term, enable Home timeline, Notifications, or both.
- Where X offers the choice, set the rule to apply to Anyone or only to people you do not follow. Choosing people you do not follow is less aggressive but can let spoilers through from accounts you already follow.
- Select a duration: 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, or Forever.
- Save the rule, then repeat the process for every spelling and phrase you want covered.
For an uncertain release window, 30 days is a useful temporary setting. Choose Forever if you do not want to revisit the list, or use a short duration around a trailer or launch event and then review the rules afterward.
How X’s muted-word matching behaves
Case and hashtag handling
X says muted words are case-insensitive, so a rule for GTA 6 is intended to match capitalization variants. X also says muting a word mutes its hashtag form. Adding both GTA 6 and #GTA6 can still be useful for spelling variants, but do not assume that every abbreviation or punctuation pattern is covered by one rule. Keep the common title forms as separate entries so you can disable a specific rule later.
What is removed
According to the X Help Center, muted posts are removed from the Home timeline, notifications and replies. That is a feed and notification control, not a deletion of the underlying post. Search is not filtered
X explicitly warns: “You will still see these posts via search.” Do not use X search to test whether a rule is working unless you are prepared to see unfiltered results. Search is also a way a spoiler can reach you after you have enabled muted words, so avoid searching the title, character names or leak terms during your spoiler-free period.

Account alerts can still arrive
If you have opted into mobile alerts for a particular account, X says those account notifications may still arrive even when a post contains a muted term. To reduce that exception, review accounts with post alerts enabled and turn off alerts you do not need. Muted words cannot be treated as an absolute block against every alert path.
Build a better X list without over-filtering
Start with title variants
Use the four written title forms and the two common hashtags first. This catches the usual references while leaving unrelated gaming conversations visible. Add broader terms only after you notice them in your own timeline.
Add spoiler vocabulary selectively
Words such as ending, story, mission, characters, gameplay, trailer and review are useful when paired with the title. Entering a generic word by itself would hide too much unrelated content, so keep the title in the phrase whenever possible.
Separate temporary and permanent rules
Use a short duration for event-specific terms such as a trailer or review embargo. Keep the core title variants on Forever if your priority is avoiding all GTA 6 discussion. Because each entry is separate, you can remove a noisy rule without dismantling the entire list.

Reddit’s official help describes a post-level safeguard. A spoiler-tagged post hides its thumbnail and preview so you can decide whether to open it. Reddit also says a title containing “spoiler” or “spoilers” is automatically tagged. This protects the preview, but it does not establish a user-controlled filter that scans every GTA 6 keyword across Reddit.
What the label does and does not do

Use the documented control for alerts
If TikTok notifications are the main source of accidental exposure, open the app’s notification settings and use the available controls for direct-message and post notifications. The exact labels can change by app version, so confirm the setting descriptions on your device. This reduces alert interruptions but does not create an X-style feed rule.
Why creator behavior matters
A TikTok video can reveal a spoiler in its first frame, caption, on-screen text or audio before you choose to interact with it. Without a documented keyword filter covering the For You feed, avoiding those recommendations depends on the platform’s ranking and the creator’s labeling. Keep that limitation in mind when deciding whether TikTok is safe during a spoiler-sensitive period.

Verify before relying on a setting
- Look for a current setting that explicitly says it filters words or phrases from the surface you use.
- Check whether it covers recommendations, subscriptions, comments, notifications, search or only one of those areas.
- Confirm whether the rule has a duration and whether it applies to accounts you follow.
- Test cautiously with non-spoiler terms; do not search GTA 6 itself as a test if search is known to bypass filtering.
If an app only offers creator-level controls, notification switches or “not interested” feedback, describe that accurately to yourself: it is exposure reduction, not a guaranteed keyword block.

A spoiler-safe setup before a GTA 6 trailer or release event

This is expected behavior. X says muted posts remain visible through search. Leave the search page, return to the Home timeline and avoid searching the muted term.
A notification arrives from an account you follow
Check whether mobile alerts are enabled for that account. X says explicitly enabled account notifications can still arrive when a post contains a muted word. Turn off that account’s post alerts if you do not need them.
Some title spellings are still visible
Add the missing spelling as its own rule. Use separate entries for GTA 6, GTA VI, Grand Theft Auto 6, Grand Theft Auto VI, #GTA6 and #GTAVI. X’s case-insensitive behavior does not mean every abbreviation, spacing pattern or punctuation variant is identical.
The timeline is too quiet

X provides the clearest documented, user-controlled keyword option: title variants and spoiler phrases can be muted on the Home timeline and in notifications, with a selectable duration. It is not a search filter and it does not override every account-alert path.
Reddit’s spoiler protection is visual and post-level, so it works only when labels are applied. TikTok’s cited controls reduce certain notifications but do not document a For You keyword shield.
