Turn on notifications for an app

Open the phone’s Settings app.

Tap Notifications > App notifications.

Select the app you want to receive alerts from and switch on Allow notifications.

If that route is not available on your device, try Settings > Apps > [app] > Notifications. Samsung notes that menu names and screenshots can vary by model and software version; use the closest matching labels on your phone. If notifications are enabled but an alert is missing
Check the app’s notification categories
Some apps separate alerts into categories, such as messages, reminders, or updates. In the app’s notification settings, check that the category for the alert you expect is enabled. A category can also be set to silent or have its own sound and vibration behavior, even while the app-wide permission is on. Samsung describes category controls in its One UI 8 guide and troubleshooting guidance.

Check the app’s own settings
Some apps have a separate notification preference in their own menus. If Android and Samsung notification access is enabled but one type of alert is still absent, open the app and review its notification or alert preferences. Samsung’s troubleshooting guide recommends checking app-level settings as well.
If alerts appear but make no sound
An alert in the notification panel that is not audible is different from an alert that never arrives. Check the phone’s sound mode and notification sound or vibration choices, then see whether Do not disturb is active. Samsung says Do not disturb blocks sounds and notifications while enabled, with exceptions available for configured people, apps, and alarms. Review its settings if you want those exceptions to continue reaching you. Samsung’s sound and Do not disturb guidance explains these controls.

Find the notification panel on your One UI version
The swipe gesture depends on the software version. On Galaxy devices running One UI 7, swipe down from the top left or center of the screen to open notifications; swipe from the top right for Quick settings. On devices running One UI 6.1.1 or earlier, the same swipe gesture opens the combined panel. If the gesture does not match your phone, open Settings directly. Samsung’s Quick panel instructions describe the version difference.

Choose what appears on the lock screen
Receiving an alert and showing its contents on the lock screen are separate choices. In One UI 8, Samsung documents per-app controls for notification pop-up style and whether content is shown while locked under Settings > Notifications > App notifications > [app]. A general lock-screen content setting is also available, so you can allow alerts while hiding sensitive details until the phone is unlocked.
