On a Galaxy Buds model that supports active noise canceling (ANC), put both earbuds in, connect them to your phone, open the Galaxy Wearable app, and tap Active noise canceling. The exact controls depend on your model. The original Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Buds+ do not support ANC, so the setting will not appear on those models.
Turn on ANC in Galaxy Wearable
- Wear both earbuds. Samsung says ANC works only when both earbuds are inserted on most compatible models.
- Connect the earbuds to your phone and open the Galaxy Wearable app.
- Tap Active noise canceling. Depending on your model, you may see an intensity slider or an option to switch ANC off.

Use the earbud touch control if it is configured
On supported models, touching and holding an earbud can switch sound controls when that gesture is assigned to noise controls. The available assignments and defaults vary by model, so use Galaxy Wearable to check or change the touch-and-hold setting. If the gesture is assigned to another action, use the app’s Active noise canceling control instead.

ANC and Ambient sound are different
Active noise canceling reduces unwanted outside noise. Ambient sound uses the earbuds’ external microphones to let surrounding sound in, which can help you remain aware of nearby sounds. Ambient sound is not another name for ANC. Galaxy Buds Live has ANC but does not use the traditional Ambient sound mode described for other Samsung earbuds. See Samsung’s Ambient sound guidance.
If Active noise canceling is missing
- Check the exact model. The original Galaxy Buds and Buds+ lack ANC; a missing control on those earbuds is expected.
- Insert both earbuds. On most compatible models, Samsung requires both earbuds to be worn for ANC to work.
- Open Galaxy Wearable with the earbuds connected. The app is Samsung’s general control path, although labels and additional options vary by generation.
- Check whether the touch gesture is assigned to noise controls if you are trying to toggle ANC by touch and hold.
If your model does not support ANC, there is no setting or gesture that can add it. If you own a compatible model but its controls still do not match Samsung’s instructions, consult the support page for that model and your region.
