In YouTube Studio on a computer, go to Earn → Memberships, select Get started, accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM) if prompted, then configure your membership levels and perks. YouTube’s published criteria do not give an always-on stream a special route to eligibility.
Can an always-on channel use memberships in India?
Yes. India is included in YouTube’s published list of locations where channel memberships are available. A channel still needs to meet YouTube’s eligibility requirements, pass review, and comply with applicable monetization policies. YouTube’s membership eligibility guidance does not list continuous streaming as an additional requirement or a substitute for the thresholds.

Memberships are a YPP feature: viewers make recurring monthly payments in exchange for perks the creator sets up. The channel’s format—always-on or otherwise—does not itself turn the feature on.
Check the eligibility requirements
YouTube’s current published channel thresholds for memberships are:

- At least three public uploads during the past 90 days.
- Either at least 3,000 qualified public long-form watch hours during the past 365 days, or at least 3 million qualified public Shorts views during the past 90 days.
The upload and subscriber requirements apply whichever performance route you use. These thresholds are not the only conditions. You must also be at least 18, live in a location where memberships are available, be accepted into YPP, accept the CPM, and have a channel that is not set as Made for Kids and is otherwise eligible under YouTube’s policies. Meeting the numerical thresholds does not guarantee acceptance or access to every feature; YouTube reviews channels and may withhold features when its requirements are not met. Check YouTube’s monetization feature eligibility table for current requirements, since platform rules can change.
Choose the performance route that fits your channel
Compare your qualified long-form watch hours over the 365-day window with your qualified Shorts views over the 90-day window. You need to meet one of those two thresholds, as well as the subscriber and upload requirements. An always-on stream does not automatically count as qualified watch time; rely on the figures YouTube shows for your channel and the applicable eligibility rules.
Turn on memberships in YouTube Studio
- On a computer, sign in to YouTube Studio with the channel’s account.
- In the left menu, select Earn.
- Open the Memberships tab. YouTube says this tab appears when the channel is eligible.
- Select Get started and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Accept the Commerce Product Module if YouTube asks you to. YouTube states that accepting the CPM is required to earn revenue from channel memberships.
- Set up membership levels and the perks associated with them, then review the setup shown in Studio.
YouTube’s help page, “Turn channel memberships on or off,” says memberships might not activate immediately after YPP acceptance because YouTube may conduct a separate eligibility review. The help page says this review can take up to two days. If the tab is missing just after acceptance, check the channel’s eligibility and look in Studio again after the review period.

Choose perks that fit an always-on channel
YouTube supports creator-defined membership benefits such as members-only live streams, videos and Shorts, members-only live chat, badges, emoji, and member recognition features. Select and configure benefits in Studio; offer only perks you can reliably deliver.
Use live chat or members-only programming deliberately
For a public 24/7 stream, members-only live chat may be one option: YouTube documents a control for enabling it in stream settings. You can also offer members-only live streams or video content where that fits your channel. A public always-on broadcast and members-only programming serve different purposes; explain clearly to viewers which content or interaction their membership unlocks.
Pay particular attention to rights when offering exclusive videos. YouTube says members-only videos must be fully original and must not include videos with copyright claims. Review YouTube’s members-only content guidance before making claimed or third-party material a perk.

Keep live-stream requirements separate from membership eligibility
Turning on memberships and being able to broadcast live are related channel operations, but they have separate requirements. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube lists mobile, webcam, and encoder streaming as available approaches; an encoder is one option for a continuous production, not a membership requirement. If the Memberships tab is missing or setup stalls
- Confirm the thresholds: Check subscriber count, public uploads in the last 90 days, and the applicable qualified watch-hour or Shorts-view route in YouTube Studio.
- Check channel conditions: Confirm the channel’s location and age requirements, YPP status, Made for Kids setting, and monetization-policy standing.
- Allow for the separate review: If YPP acceptance is recent, YouTube says membership eligibility review can take up to two days.
- Look for the CPM step: Accept the Commerce Product Module when prompted; YouTube requires it to earn membership revenue.
- Separate live restrictions from memberships: Verification and recent live-stream restrictions affect going live, but YouTube’s published membership criteria do not state them as additional membership thresholds.
- Recheck Studio: Availability is determined for the specific channel. If the tab remains absent after checking eligibility and allowing for review, consult YouTube’s current help guidance or Studio notices.
