How to Turn On HDR on a Samsung Monitor in Windows

To enable HDR on a supported Samsung monitor, open Settings > System > Display in Windows, select the Samsung display if you use more than one screen, then turn on HDR. The setting appears only when both the PC and the selected display support HDR.

Check that your monitor and PC support HDR

First, confirm HDR support for the exact Samsung monitor model and for the PC’s graphics hardware. Windows requires both the PC and display to support HDR; see Microsoft’s HDR settings guide. Samsung’s available picture settings vary by model and connection, so consult the specifications and manual for your monitor rather than assuming every Samsung model has the same HDR options. Samsung’s general monitor guidance is available at Samsung Support.

Enable HDR in Windows

  1. Connect the monitor to the PC using an input and connection mode supported by both devices. If you have more than one display, open Settings > System > Display and select the Samsung monitor in the display selector.

  2. Find the HDR controls for that display and turn on HDR. Microsoft’s instructions and hardware requirements are in its Windows HDR settings guide.

If SDR content looks dim after HDR is enabled

HDR and standard dynamic range (SDR) use different signal handling, so SDR desktop content can look darker with HDR active. That does not by itself mean HDR failed to turn on. Adjust the Windows control for SDR content appearance to suit your preference. Samsung discusses the effect and Windows adjustment guidance in its support article.

If HDR is on but the picture does not look right

Check the Samsung monitor’s manual for the picture controls available on your particular model. OSD menu names and options vary, and the connection can affect which settings are offered. Samsung’s general monitor instructions do not establish one universal HDR menu sequence for every model, so use the manual for your exact model rather than following a guessed menu path.
