There is no single fast-charging switch for every Android phone. On a Samsung Galaxy, open Settings > Battery > Charging settings and enable Fast charging or Fast wireless charging. On many other Android phones, fast charging starts automatically when the phone, adapter, cable and wall outlet support the same charging standard. Pixel 11 and later add a separate Extreme Charging Mode for faster charging when the battery is at 50% or lower.
Fast answer: the setting depends on your phone
Use the section for your manufacturer first. If the named option is not present, that does not necessarily mean fast charging is unavailable; many Android phones negotiate charging speed automatically and expose no manual toggle.

- Samsung Galaxy: Go to Settings > Battery > Charging settings. Turn on Fast charging for wired charging or Fast wireless charging for a compatible charging pad.
- Google Pixel 11 and later: When the battery is at 50% or below, start Extreme Charging Mode from Quick Settings, Settings > Battery and charging > Extreme Charging Mode, or the lock-screen prompt.
- Most other Android phones, including many OnePlus models: Connect a compatible charger and cable to a wall outlet. The phone normally selects the fastest supported mode automatically. Use the support instructions for the exact model if a brand-specific setting is available.
A high-wattage charger cannot force a phone to exceed its designed charging rate. The phone, adapter, cable and power source must all agree on a supported protocol.

Android is an operating system used by many manufacturers, and charging hardware differs between models. A phone may support USB Power Delivery (USB PD), USB PD Programmable Power Supply (PPS), a manufacturer’s proprietary wired system, wireless charging, or several of these at once. The phone and charger communicate when connected and select a safe power level.

That negotiation explains why two phones connected to the same adapter can charge at different speeds. It also explains why a charger rated for more watts does not automatically make every phone charge faster. The phone’s charging circuitry, the adapter’s protocol support, the cable’s current rating and the outlet’s available power all matter.
Menu names also change with the manufacturer, model and software version. Samsung states that only charging speeds supported by the device appear in Charging settings. If your menu does not contain a fast-charging option, check the exact model’s support page rather than looking for a universal Android setting.
Samsung Galaxy: enable fast wired or wireless charging
Turn on wired Fast charging
- Open Settings.
- Tap Battery.
- Tap Charging settings.
- Switch on Fast charging.
- Connect the phone to a compatible charger, cable and wall outlet.
Samsung says most Galaxy phones and tablets automatically enable fast cable charging when a Samsung Fast Charger is connected. The setting is still useful when you want to verify that fast charging is allowed or when a previous preference disabled it.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Turn on Fast wireless charging
- Open Settings.
- Choose Battery.
- Open Charging settings.
- Enable Fast wireless charging.
- Place the phone centrally on a compatible wireless pad connected to its required adapter.
Wireless speed depends on the phone, pad, alignment, case and temperature. A pad that supports a fast mode still cannot provide it if the phone does not support that mode.
If the Samsung option is missing
Samsung’s menu can differ by model and software version, and unsupported charging modes are not shown. Update the phone if an update is available, then search Settings for fast charging. If the option remains absent, use the model-specific Samsung support instructions. Do not assume that a missing toggle means a fault.

Google Pixel: automatic charging and Extreme Charging Mode
Use normal fast charging
Pixel phones generally begin their fastest supported wired charging automatically when connected to a compatible USB-C power adapter and cable. Plug the adapter into a wall outlet rather than a laptop or low-power USB port. Google lists its 45W USB-C Power Charger and Pixel Flex Dual Port 67W USB-C Fast Charger as examples of compatible adapters; these figures are product examples, not a promise that every Pixel accepts that wattage.
Higher wattage helps only when the particular Pixel supports the higher speed. A 67W adapter therefore does not make a lower-rated Pixel charge at 67W, and a cable that cannot carry the required current can reduce the negotiated speed.
Start Extreme Charging Mode on Pixel 11 and later
Google documents Extreme Charging Mode for Pixel 11 and later. It is available when the battery is at 50% or lower and can be started in any of these ways:
- Open Quick Settings and select Extreme Charging Mode.
- Open Settings > Battery and charging > Extreme Charging Mode.
- Use the prompt shown on the lock screen when the phone qualifies.
The mode ends when the phone reaches a high charge level or when it is disconnected. If you do not see it, check the model, battery percentage and software version; it is not a general feature of older Pixel generations.
Keep speed controls separate from battery-health controls
Pixel’s charging-health controls are under Settings > Battery > Battery health > Charging optimization. Adaptive Charging can delay the final part of a charge, and an 80% limit can intentionally stop charging at that level. These controls are designed for battery longevity and can make a charge take longer or stop below 100%; they do not increase the phone’s maximum charging power.

OnePlus and other Android phones
Many non-Samsung Android phones do not provide a system-wide fast-charging switch. OnePlus treats fast charging as a model-specific system, so follow the support guide for the exact handset instead of applying Samsung’s menu path. Other manufacturers may expose a battery setting, a charging-mode switch, or no user-facing control at all.
For an automatic system, the practical procedure is simple: connect the phone directly to a compatible wall charger, use the cable supplied with the phone or one that meets the charger’s specification, and watch for the phone’s charging notification. If the notification shows only ordinary charging, troubleshoot the complete compatibility chain rather than repeatedly toggling settings.
The compatibility chain: phone, adapter, cable and outlet
Fast charging works only when every link supports the required mode.
Phone support
Check the exact model’s specification for wired and wireless charging. A phone may support fast wired charging but only standard wireless charging, or it may support neither. Regional variants and software versions can also change which options appear.
Adapter protocol and wattage
For supported Samsung Super Fast Charging devices, Samsung documents approved 25W or 45W adapters. The adapter may also need USB PD PPS; a high maximum wattage by itself is not enough. For Pixel, use a compatible USB-C power adapter, with Google’s 45W and 67W chargers serving as examples of compatible products for supported models.

Cable rating
The cable must meet the adapter’s required specification and carry the current needed by the negotiated mode. A damaged, very thin or poorly specified cable can cause ordinary charging, intermittent charging or repeated connect-and-disconnect behavior even when the adapter is powerful enough.
Power source
Use a wall outlet for the adapter. A laptop port, vehicle USB port or standard low-power USB socket may provide less power and will not necessarily trigger the phone’s fast mode. A loose plug at the phone, adapter or outlet can also prevent the expected rate.
| Android implementation | How charging speed is enabled | Key requirement or condition |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung Galaxy wired | Enable Fast charging in Settings > Battery > Charging settings; supported models may enable it automatically with a Samsung Fast Charger. | Compatible adapter and cable; supported Super Fast Charging models may require an approved 25W or 45W adapter with USB PD PPS. |
| Samsung Galaxy wireless | Enable Fast wireless charging in Settings > Battery > Charging settings. | Compatible phone, wireless pad, pad adapter and correct placement. |
| Google Pixel normal charging | Negotiated automatically when a compatible USB-C adapter and cable are connected. | Wall outlet and a phone-supported charging speed; higher wattage helps only when the phone supports it. |
| Google Pixel 11 and later Extreme Charging Mode | Quick Settings, Settings > Battery and charging > Extreme Charging Mode, or the lock-screen prompt. | Battery must be at 50% or lower; the mode ends at a high charge level or after disconnection. |
| Many other Android phones, including many OnePlus models | Usually automatic negotiation; model-specific controls vary. | Follow the exact model’s support instructions and use its required protocol, adapter and cable. |
What to buy when you need fast charging
Choose the protocol before the wattage
For a USB-C Android phone, search for a USB-C PD PPS fast charger when the phone’s specifications call for USB PD PPS. Verify the model’s required wattage before buying. A charger with a higher maximum output is compatible only if it also supports the protocol and voltage range the phone expects.
Match the cable to the charger
Use the phone’s original cable when possible. Otherwise choose a model-appropriate USB-C fast-charging cable whose current rating meets the adapter’s requirement. Do not infer a cable’s capability from its connector shape alone; two USB-C cables can support different charging currents.

Troubleshooting: when fast charging does not start
- Reseat every connection. Unplug and reconnect the USB-C cable at the phone and adapter, then check the adapter at the wall outlet. Remove lint or debris carefully if the plug does not seat fully.
- Move to a wall outlet. Replace a laptop, monitor or low-power USB port with a household outlet connected to the charger.
- Check the protocol. Confirm that the adapter supports the phone’s required standard, such as USB PD PPS where applicable, rather than relying only on the printed wattage.
- Check the cable. Try the supplied cable or a correctly rated replacement. Replace a cable that is frayed, loose or hot.
- Confirm phone support. Look up the exact model and verify that it supports the wired or wireless mode you are trying to use.
- Cool the phone. Charging systems can reduce power when the handset is hot. Stop demanding tasks, remove insulating coverings temporarily and let the phone return to a normal temperature.
- Review charging settings. On Samsung, revisit Settings > Battery > Charging settings. On Pixel, check whether Adaptive Charging or the 80% limit is active; these can intentionally delay or limit charging without indicating a hardware problem.
- Test one variable at a time. Keep the phone and cable the same while trying another compatible adapter, then keep the adapter the same while trying another rated cable. This identifies the failed link without guessing.
- Use model-specific support. If the fast-charge control is missing or the phone remains slow with known-compatible equipment, consult the manufacturer’s instructions for that model and software version.
Fast charging versus battery longevity
Maximum speed and maximum battery preservation are different goals. Fast charging is useful when you need a short top-up, while Adaptive Charging or an 80% limit can reduce the time the battery spends at a high state of charge. Pixel places these options under Charging optimization, separate from Extreme Charging Mode.
Heat is another reason a phone may slow down. The phone can lower power to manage temperature, especially during wireless charging, direct sunlight or heavy gaming. Letting the device cool is safer than forcing a higher rate with an incompatible accessory.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Expecting one Android menu path: Samsung’s Charging settings do not apply to every manufacturer.
- Buying the biggest-number charger: wattage without the required protocol does not guarantee fast charging.
- Using a laptop port for a quick top-up: the available power may be lower than a wall adapter’s.
- Ignoring the cable: the cable is part of the charging specification, not just a passive extension.
- Confusing a battery limit with a fault: an 80% limit or Adaptive Charging can deliberately stop or slow the final portion.
- Assuming wireless equals wired speed: wireless charging has separate pad, alignment and heat constraints.
Choose the quickest fix for your situation

Use a compatible USB-C wall charger and correctly rated cable. If the phone is a Pixel 11 or later and at 50% or below, start Extreme Charging Mode from Quick Settings, its Settings path or the lock-screen prompt.
You have OnePlus or another Android phone
Use the model’s specified charger and cable, connect directly to a wall outlet and let the phone negotiate its speed. Consult the exact model’s support guide for any optional charging switch.
The phone charges, but slowly
Check the outlet, adapter protocol, cable rating, phone temperature and battery-health limits in that order. Changing only the charger wattage is unlikely to help if another link in the chain is incompatible.
