To enable 5G on a supported OPPO phone, open Settings, select Mobile Network or the settings for your SIM, then turn on 5G or choose an automatic preferred network type that includes 5G. Menu names differ by model and software, and the phone also needs a compatible 5G model, carrier service, coverage, and an eligible, activated SIM.
Before changing the setting, check that your phone and service are eligible
Enabling a 5G preference does not create 5G access on its own. OPPO lists device compatibility, carrier service and coverage, SIM compatibility and activation, and enabled settings among the requirements. Check the exact OPPO model and regional variant against your carrier’s supported devices and 5G frequencies; a 5G label alone does not guarantee compatibility with every network. See OPPO’s 5G setup and troubleshooting guidance and its 5G explainer.

- Phone: Confirm the precise model and regional variant support your operator’s 5G service and frequencies.
- Carrier and location: Check that 5G is available for your service and in the area where you are using the phone.
- SIM and account: Ask your operator whether your SIM and plan are eligible and activated for 5G.
How to turn on 5G on an OPPO phone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Mobile Network, SIM card & mobile data, or the entry for the SIM you use for mobile data. The wording and route depend on the OPPO model and software.
- Choose the relevant SIM, if prompted, and open its preferred network type or network mode setting.
- Turn on 5G or select an automatic option that includes 5G, if one is available. Follow your carrier’s instructions if its menu differs.
For example, OPPO’s general route is Settings > Mobile Network. StarHub’s carrier-specific instructions for OPPO phones use Settings > SIM card & mobile data > SIM 1 or SIM 2 > Preferred Network Type and show 5G/4G/3G/2G (Auto) as an option. That is an example, not a universal menu path or setting name. See OPPO Support and StarHub’s OPPO 5G instructions.

Which network mode should you choose?
For everyday use: automatic mode including 5G
If your phone offers an automatic preferred-network option that includes 5G, it is a practical starting point for routine use. The StarHub guide’s example, 5G/4G/3G/2G (Auto), includes 5G while allowing the phone to use other listed network generations. Your carrier or phone may use different labels.

SA and NSA: advanced choices, not universal recommendations
SA (Standalone) and NSA (Non-standalone) describe different 5G deployment modes. Do not assume every OPPO phone exposes these options, or that you need to change them for ordinary 5G data access. OPPO discusses an NSA+SA or SA selection in guidance for VoNR troubleshooting on supported devices, not as a general recommendation for all OPPO users. For VoNR, OPPO advises: “Consult with your operator to determine if the VoNR network is available, and check whether your SIM card has been activated for VoNR services.” See OPPO Malaysia’s VoNR guidance.
Support can depend on the specific phone, carrier, region, and software. OPPO India’s November 2022 announcement about Jio described a software rollout for named OPPO models in India; it is historical and should not be treated as a current compatibility list. See OPPO India’s announcement.

If 5G does not appear or connect
- Check the selected SIM and network setting. If the phone has more than one SIM, confirm that you are checking the SIM used for mobile data. Look for a 5G preference or automatic network type that includes 5G.
- Verify model and network compatibility. Ask OPPO or your carrier whether the exact model and regional variant support the carrier’s 5G frequencies and service.
- Confirm coverage and account eligibility. Check that 5G is available at your location and that your plan and SIM are eligible and activated.
- Check for a recommended software update. Install one if OPPO or your carrier says it is needed for support on your device.
- Ask the carrier about VoNR separately. VoNR is a voice-service question; it should not be confused with basic 5G data setup. Confirm VoNR availability and SIM activation with the operator before changing an advanced SA/NSA setting.
If the setting is missing or these checks do not resolve the problem, contact your carrier with your exact OPPO model, software version, SIM type, and location. OPPO notes that settings paths can vary between phones, so a menu route shown for another model may not apply.
