You can switch off TikTok notification categories in Profile > Menu (☰) > Settings and privacy > Notifications. To reduce personalized shopping recommendations, look for TikTok’s separate personalization controls under Content preferences—but TikTok says its non-personalized feeds and search options are available only in the EU and Kazakhstan. Turning off alerts does not itself change recommendations or remove the Shop tab.
Choose what you want to change
| Goal | Setting | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Stop TikTok alerts, including Shop-related alerts where offered | Notifications in TikTok, or your device’s notification settings | Alerts sent by TikTok; it does not change feed or search personalization. |
| Reduce personalized recommendations | Personalized feeds and, where available, Personalized search in Content preferences | Personalization of supported feeds or search results; availability is limited by TikTok to the EU and Kazakhstan. |
TikTok describes Shop as part of its personalized experience: “The content you see and other features you use on TikTok, including TikTok Shop, are tailored to you based on your personal preferences or interests, giving you a personalized experience.” (TikTok Help Center: How TikTok recommends content.)

Turn off TikTok notifications
- Open TikTok and tap Profile.
- Tap the Menu (☰) button, then Settings and privacy.
- Tap Notifications.
- Switch off the notification categories you do not want.
TikTok also directs users to their device settings to change app notifications. On your phone, open its settings, find TikTok in the app or notification settings, and disable notifications or adjust them there. The exact labels vary by device and operating system. Changing device permissions affects TikTok alerts generally; use TikTok’s categories if you want more selective control.

Mute push notifications on a schedule
If you want a quiet period rather than permanently disabling categories, open Push notification schedule from TikTok’s Notifications settings and set the period. TikTok says it will not send push notifications during the scheduled time. This is a schedule for push alerts, not a setting to personalize or remove shopping recommendations. (TikTok Help Center: Notifications.)

- PRECISE COMPATIBILITY: Designed exclusively for iPhone 16 6.1" and iPhone 15 6.1". Not compatible with iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Plus, 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 Pro, 16 Plus or 16 Pro Max. Please check the exact model of your smartphone before purchase. European/global model: A3287.
- 28° PRIVACY ANTI-SPY FILTER: The privacy filter limits side-angle screen visibility. When viewed directly from the front, the content remains visible, while from the side the screen gradually appears darker, helping to protect your personal information.
- 3 TEMPERED GLASS PROTECTORS + INSTALLATION KIT: The pack includes 3 tempered glass screen protectors and a handy installation tool to ensure the protector is positioned correctly on the screen.
- 9H TEMPERED GLASS: Made from durable 9H-hardness tempered glass, it helps protect the screen against everyday scratches and impacts. The oleophobic coating reduces fingerprints, smudges, and residue, making the screen easier to clean.
- CASE-FRIENDLY DESIGN: The protector is designed with a small margin around the screen edges to ensure compatibility with most cases. This is not a sizing error; the gap prevents the case from lifting the tempered glass.
Limit personalized shopping recommendations
Check TikTok’s Content preferences for Personalized feeds and, if it appears, Personalized search. TikTok says these controls are available only in the EU and Kazakhstan, so you may not see them elsewhere. TikTok says personalized feeds and personalized search are on by default.
When available, turning off personalized feeds changes supported surfaces: For You, Following, LIVE and STEM feeds, Explore, and—in select regions—Friends, Nearby and Shop. TikTok says For You becomes a Popular feed. It also says some other areas, including comments, Stories and account recommendations, are no longer personalized. Shop is included only in select regions, not everywhere.

If the personalization option is missing
- First confirm that you are looking under Content preferences, not Notifications.
- If the control still does not appear, TikTok’s stated EU-and-Kazakhstan availability limit may explain why.
- You can still manage TikTok alerts through the app’s notification categories or your device settings, but those changes do not turn off personalized shopping recommendations.
What these settings do not do
Turning off notifications silences alerts; it does not remove the Shop tab, stop shopping content from appearing, or alter TikTok’s recommendation ranking. Personalization controls, where available, affect the feeds or search functions TikTok specifies, and Shop coverage varies by region. The two settings are separate, so change each one if you want both fewer alerts and less personalization.
