Use your phone’s notification settings only if the app does not offer a selective push control: blocking notifications at the device level may also silence security, payment, or other account alerts.
Turn off marketing in your sportsbook account first
- Sign in to the sportsbook app or website, then open your profile or account menu.
- Look for Notification Preferences, Marketing Communications, Communication Preferences, or a Preference Centre. Labels and availability vary by operator, app version, and location.
- Turn off the promotional categories and channels you do not want—such as marketing push, email, SMS, or postal offers—and save the changes.
For example, DraftKings describes this app route: profile icon → Notification Preferences. Its desktop route is profile → Account Information → Notification Preferences. The controls include categories such as Account and Marketing, and DraftKings says email marketing requires an additional toggle in its preference center. See DraftKings’ notification preference instructions.

Check each channel independently. PokerStars documents separate controls for marketing email and push, while betPARX distinguishes promotional from non-promotional messaging. These examples show why switching off one kind of contact may not stop another. See betPARX’s messaging information and PokerStars’ email and push preferences.

Choose between app-level controls and phone settings
| Control | What it can stop | Effect on essential alerts |
|---|---|---|
| Operator’s marketing or notification preferences | Selected promotional categories or channels, depending on the operator | More selective; account or service alerts may remain available |
| Phone’s app notification setting | Notifications from that app, including push messages | May also block useful security, transaction, or account alerts |
| Email unsubscribe or SMS opt-out | Marketing on that email or text channel | Does not necessarily change app push settings |
FanDuel says certain push preferences can be changed in account settings and that app notifications can also be disabled in iOS settings or Android’s application manager. Exact phone menu names depend on the device and operating-system version. Try the operator’s selective controls first if you want to retain login, deposit, withdrawal, or security notifications. See FanDuel’s notification policy.

A 2025 National Consumers League report found that approximately 98% of notifications in the apps it reviewed contained advertising and roughly 86% contained bet pushes. Those figures describe the report’s reviewed apps and methodology, not every sportsbook or the current notification mix across all apps. The report also warns that disabling all app notifications could stop marketing while causing users to miss critical account-security alerts. See the National Consumers League report.
Unsubscribe from marketing email and text messages
Email and SMS opt-outs are separate from app push controls. Use the unsubscribe link in a marketing email or follow the opt-out instructions in a marketing text; for texts, that often means replying STOP. These actions address the relevant channel and do not necessarily disable app notifications.

This is UK regulator guidance: the Gambling Commission says, “Gambling businesses should only send you marketing texts or emails if you have given your consent for them to do so.” Its player guidance, “How can I stop getting gambling marketing texts and emails?”, was updated 25 February 2025. If marketing continues after opting out, the Commission advises contacting the business and provides guidance on reporting the issue to the ICO. Outside the UK, follow the instructions and rules that apply where you live.

Turning off marketing does not necessarily stop service or essential account communications. betPARX says it may still send essential account-related emails; PokerStars lists service messages such as security alerts, deposit updates, and terms changes as always on. TAB NZ likewise says important account messages may still be needed. Review your operator’s explanation of its non-marketing messages before disabling broad notification categories. See betPARX, PokerStars, and TAB NZ’s Preference Centre.

Timing also differs. On its New Jersey responsible gaming page, bet365 says marketing preference requests are actioned on its systems within 48 hours. That is bet365’s stated processing time for that page, not a universal deadline. See bet365’s New Jersey marketing preferences information.

- Check that you changed the preference for the channel where the message arrived: app push, email, or SMS.
- Confirm that you saved the selection and look for any separate marketing toggle or preference center, especially for email.
- Contact the operator if the controls are missing or the messages continue. Include the account email or phone number, the channel, and approximately when you opted out.
- Keep the opt-out confirmation and an example of any later marketing message. Escalation routes and regulator rights depend on your location; the UK Gambling Commission guidance above describes the UK route.
The American Gaming Association’s Responsible Marketing Code for Sports Wagering says digital marketing should respect user privacy and applicable legal privacy requirements, including those governing consent. It also says each email or text message should provide an option to opt out or unsubscribe. The code is reproduced in the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s 2024 congressional hearing materials; it is an industry code, not a statement of universal law.
