There is no single switch that removes every promotion from a Galaxy phone. Samsung-account personalization, Galaxy Store notifications, Samsung News, lock-screen services, browser pop-ups, Google personalization, and advertising inside third-party apps use different controls.
Start with Settings > Samsung Account > Privacy > Customisation Service (spelling and menu placement vary). Turn off the available personalization and direct-marketing options, then follow the section below that matches where the unwanted content appears. Samsung says this reduces personalized promotions in Samsung apps but does not disable every advertisement.

Find the source before changing settings
Look at where the promotion appears. A notification, a story card on the Home screen, an image on the lock screen, a browser pop-up, and an advert inside an app are separate systems. Disabling one does not automatically affect the others.

Turn off Samsung personalization first
Samsung’s Customisation Service (also written “Customization Service” on some devices) uses account and device activity to tailor experiences and promotions in Samsung apps. Opting out is the broadest Samsung-provided first step, but it is not an ad-free mode.

Use the Samsung Account privacy path
- Open Settings.
- Tap Samsung Account. On some versions, you may need to tap your account name at the top first.
- Open Privacy.
- Select Customisation Service or Customization Service.
- Turn the service off, and review every separate marketing or personalization switch shown on the page.
If that route is missing, use the Settings search field for Customisation Service, Customization Service, customized ads, or direct marketing. Samsung changes labels and locations by region, One UI release, and account state.
Recognize alternate labels
Some Galaxy software presents switches named Customise this phone and Customised ads and direct marketing inside the service page. Turn off the options that correspond to the data use you do not want. Other builds place an Opt out of Ads Personalization control under an Ads subsection. These labels are alternatives, not additional requirements that every phone will display.
What this opt-out does not do
Samsung’s description is limited to personalization and personalized promotions. Existing app notifications, adverts supplied by a third-party app, web pop-ups, and content from a separate news feed can continue. If a promotion still appears, identify its source rather than repeatedly changing the account switch.

Stop Galaxy Store promotional notifications
The Galaxy Store can send service updates, tips, event notices, and marketing alerts. Samsung exposes these as notification categories, so you can silence promotional categories while retaining alerts you consider useful.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps, then choose Galaxy Store.
- Select Notifications.
- Open Notification categories.
- Turn off the categories used for promotions, events, recommendations, or tips. Leave essential categories on if you still want them.
On some phones, category switches are hidden until you enable Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings > Manage notification categories for each app. If you cannot see category controls, enable that system option and return to the Galaxy Store notification page.

Samsung states that Important updates cannot be disabled through this control. A Galaxy Store page may therefore continue to send that category even after promotional categories are off. Samsung also documents that Galaxy Store notifications cannot be disabled as one all-or-nothing service on affected versions; category-level control is the intended method.
Silence promotions from any other app
When an unwanted alert arrives, do not guess which privacy setting controls it. Press and hold the notification. Android opens the originating app and the relevant notification controls, often with a switch for the individual category.

Use the notification history
- Open Settings > Notifications.
- Check Recently sent to see which apps have generated alerts.
- Tap the app, then disable the unwanted notification categories or all notifications from that app.
Category-level blocking is preferable when the app sends both useful account alerts and marketing. Disabling all notifications also removes delivery, security, or message alerts from that app. Neither choice removes advertising that is rendered inside the app after you open it.
If the notification keeps returning
- Check whether the app has a separate in-app marketing switch under Account, Privacy, Communications, or Notifications.
- Review recently installed or updated apps if the sender is unfamiliar.
- Do not grant notification access to an app that does not need it; notification access is broader than ordinary notifications permission.
- If the alert appears to impersonate Samsung or Android, verify the app name in the long-press panel before interacting with it.
Remove Samsung News and Home screen recommendations
Samsung News is a Home screen feed, not the same system as Samsung Account advertising. You can remove the feed, change to Google Discover where supported, or keep it and narrow the stories it shows.
Turn the Home screen feed off or change it
- Touch and hold an empty area of the Home screen.
- Swipe to the farthest Home screen panel.
- Turn the feed switch off, or select Google Discover instead of Samsung News if that choice is offered.
- Tap the Home button or swipe away to save the change.
Turning the feed off removes that panel. Choosing Google Discover does not remove recommendations; it changes the provider and its controls. The available choices depend on the Galaxy model, launcher version, country, and software build.

Keep Samsung News but reduce unwanted items
Open Samsung News and use its notification, topic, and source controls. You can disable News notifications, remove topics, and hide stories from a particular source. These settings affect the News feed and its alerts, not promotions elsewhere in Samsung apps.
Identify and remove lock-screen ads
A lock-screen image or card can be generated by Samsung Global Goals or by a third-party app. Changing Customisation Service alone may leave it untouched.
Check Samsung Global Goals
- Open the Samsung Global Goals app if it is installed.
- Review its settings for lock-screen content, wallpapers, or related display options.
- Disable the lock-screen feature, or disable the app if you do not use it.
The exact wording varies by release. If the lock-screen content stops after changing Global Goals, that service was the source.
Test for a third-party app
- Think back to apps installed or updated shortly before the lock-screen ads began.
- Uninstall or disable suspicious wallpaper, battery, cleaning, launcher, or utility apps one at a time.
- If the source is unclear, restart the phone in Safe mode. Safe mode loads the system without most downloaded apps.
- Use the phone in Safe mode long enough to see whether the lock-screen ad returns. If it disappears, a downloaded app is responsible; remove recent apps after restarting normally.
Safe mode is a diagnostic step, not a permanent operating mode. If the ad remains in Safe mode, focus on Samsung services, Global Goals, or the lock-screen and wallpaper settings rather than deleting random apps.
Block browser pop-ups and web advertising
Browser controls apply only to web pages opened in that browser. They do not suppress notifications from Galaxy Store, adverts inside games, or a different browser.

Chrome
- Open Chrome and tap the three-dot menu.
- Choose Settings.
- Open Site settings, then Pop-ups and redirects, and block them.
- In Site settings, review Intrusive ads or the equivalent ad-control entry and block intrusive advertising where the option is available.
- Open Notifications under Site settings and remove permission for sites that send promotional alerts.
Chrome may show slightly different labels by version. Blocking pop-ups does not prevent every advert embedded in a page, and it does not remove a malicious app that displays content over other apps.
Samsung Internet
- Open Samsung Internet and tap the menu button.
- Choose Settings.
- Open the privacy or browsing section and enable Block pop-ups.
- Use Ad blockers in the browser menu or settings to install and enable a compatible blocker offered by Samsung Internet.
- Review site permissions and remove notification access from sites that send unwanted alerts.
Menu names differ between Samsung Internet releases. These settings filter browser content; they are not a system-wide advertising switch.

Samsung’s controls and Google’s Android personalization service are separate. On supported devices, Samsung’s privacy guidance places Android personalization and Ads options under Settings > Security and privacy > More privacy settings.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Security and privacy.
- Open More privacy settings.
- Review Android personalization service and the available Ads controls.
- Turn off the personalization or ad-personalization options that match your preference.
Not every Galaxy device exposes the same entries. These controls influence Google’s recommendations and ad personalization; they do not disable Samsung News, Galaxy Store notifications, or advertising supplied by an individual app.

The same notification returns
Open the notification’s app controls again and check every category. Some apps use a second category for “offers,” “recommendations,” or “service messages.” If the sender is Galaxy Store, remember that Important updates may remain enabled.
The ad appears only after unlocking or charging
Check apps installed or updated immediately before the behavior began. Wallpaper, launcher, lock-screen, flashlight, battery, and file-management utilities are common places to investigate. Use Safe mode to separate downloaded apps from built-in services.
The Home screen still shows stories
Verify whether you disabled the feed panel itself or merely muted its notifications. A visible feed requires the Home screen feed setting; topic and source controls only change what Samsung News recommends.
Pop-ups appear outside the browser
A browser setting cannot stop an app from drawing an overlay. Inspect recently installed apps, revoke “appear on top” permission from an untrusted app under Settings > Apps > Special access > Appear on top, and test again. Do not revoke overlay access from apps that genuinely need it for core functions unless you understand the effect.
A menu or label is missing
Samsung varies settings by country, model, One UI version, and whether a Samsung Account is signed in. Search Settings for the exact terms Customization, Customisation, ads, direct marketing, or notification categories. If a feature is not present, do not assume another menu has the same control.

A practical cleanup order
- Turn off Samsung Customisation Service and any customized-ads or direct-marketing option shown.
- Silence Galaxy Store promotional notification categories.
- Use notification history to identify and control other senders.
- Disable Samsung News, change its topics and sources, or choose Google Discover according to your preference.
- Check Samsung Global Goals and test Safe mode if the lock screen displays ads.
- Harden the browser you actually use against pop-ups and site notifications.
- Review Google’s Android personalization and Ads controls separately.
This sequence starts with account-level personalization, then handles each remaining delivery channel at its source. It avoids the common mistake of expecting one privacy switch to govern notifications, feeds, lock screens, browsers, and in-app advertising at the same time.
