Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSafari doesn’t have one master switch for every feature. On iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Apps > Safari; on Mac, choose Safari > Settings and open the pane for the feature you want to change. Some options are privacy protections, while others affect a particular site or simply change what you see.
Find the right Safari settings
The controls are organized differently by device. Apple’s current iPhone and iPad guides place Safari’s device-level privacy and security options in Settings. On Mac, settings are divided among panes such as Privacy, Websites, and Security.

- iPhone or iPad: Open Settings > Apps > Safari. Apple’s iPhone privacy guide and iPad privacy guide describe the available controls.
- Mac: Open Safari > Settings, then choose the relevant pane. Apple’s Safari settings overview covers the panes, while its guides explain Privacy and Websites.
On either platform, first decide whether you want to change Safari for all browsing or adjust behavior for one website. A site-specific setting can preserve your preferred defaults elsewhere.
Turn off or adjust privacy and security features
Prevent Cross-Site Tracking
On iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Apps > Safari and change Prevent Cross-Site Tracking. On Mac, go to Safari > Settings > Privacy and change Prevent cross-site tracking. Apple says this protection limits tracking by deleting tracking data from third-party content providers, except providers you visit. Turning it off allows cross-site tracking, so do so only if you accept that privacy trade-off. See Apple’s iPhone guide and Mac guide.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Hide IP Address
On iPhone or iPad, find Hide IP Address under Settings > Apps > Safari. You can adjust this if you don’t want Safari to hide your IP address from trackers. Apple’s cited iPhone instructions document this control; consult the guide for the available choices on your device. Hiding an IP address is a privacy measure, not a guarantee of anonymity.
Fraudulent Website Warning
On iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Apps > Safari and change Fraudulent Website Warning. On Mac, open Safari > Settings > Security and change the warning option. If you turn it off, Safari will stop warning you about suspected phishing websites. Apple documents the setting in its iPhone privacy guide and Mac settings overview.

Camera, microphone, and location permissions
On iPhone or iPad, use the camera, microphone, and location controls in Settings > Apps > Safari. These offer permission choices such as Ask, Deny, or Allow, rather than being simple on/off switches. On Mac, open Safari > Settings > Websites to manage camera, microphone, and location access for an individual site or other websites. Apple notes that some permissions, including camera and microphone, are not shared across Apple devices. See the iPad guide and Mac Websites guide.
Change pop-ups, autoplay, and other website behavior
Block Pop-ups
On iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Apps > Safari and switch Block Pop-ups on or off. Turning it off may let useful site windows appear, but also exposes you to more unwanted or deceptive pop-ups. On Mac, open Safari > Settings > Websites > Pop-up Windows; choose a behavior for the selected site or for other websites. Some websites rely on pop-ups for essential content. Apple’s pop-up guidance was published January 29, 2026.

Do not click a suspicious pop-up, including a button that claims to close it. If a page takes over the screen, navigate to a known address or close the tab rather than interacting with the page.
Set behavior for a specific site on Mac
In Safari > Settings > Websites, select a category such as Reader, Content Blockers, Auto-Play, Notifications, Pop-up Windows, Camera, Microphone, Screen Sharing, or Location. Choose the website in the list and set its permission or behavior; use the option for other websites to set the default more broadly. This lets you fix a compatibility problem on one site without changing the setting everywhere. Apple’s Websites settings guide lists the controls and choices.

JavaScript and other Mac settings
To change JavaScript behavior on Mac, open Safari > Settings > Security and adjust Allow JavaScript. Disabling it can prevent some sites from working as intended. The Mac settings overview also covers Search, Profiles, Extensions, and Advanced; use the pane that corresponds to the feature rather than looking for a single Safari-wide switch. See Apple’s settings overview.

If you mean that Safari looks busy rather than that you want to change privacy or security, customize the iPhone Start Page instead. Apple lets you show or hide items such as Suggestions, Privacy Report, Reading List, and Favorites. When available, Reader in Safari’s Page Menu can simplify the current article’s layout. These presentation choices do not turn off tracker protections. See Apple’s iPhone customization guide.

If unwanted pop-ups keep appearing
Persistent pop-ups can be associated with adware or other unwanted software. Apple recommends keeping your software updated and checking Applications and Safari Extensions for items you don’t recognize or need. Don’t download software offered by a suspicious pop-up. Follow Apple’s steps for blocking pop-up ads and windows if the problem continues.
