Open Instagram and go to Profile → menu → Accounts Center → Ad preferences. There, review the ad settings and information-use controls available for your account. Instagram does not offer a universal switch that removes every ad or guarantees that all ad personalization stops; the choices shown can differ by region, account, and rollout.
Find Instagram’s ad preferences
- Open Instagram and tap your profile picture.
- Tap the menu button, then open Accounts Center.
- Tap Ad preferences.
- Review the available ad settings or controls for how information is used. Follow the labels shown on your account, since the exact screens and choices can vary.
Meta describes Accounts Center as the place to manage ad preferences across accounts connected there. The general route is useful, but the exact submenus are not guaranteed to look the same for every account or app version. Meta’s Accounts Center help information

What changing ad preferences does—and does not do
Changing a personalization setting is not the same as turning ads off. The available controls can affect how information is used to personalize ads, but the sources do not establish a universal setting that stops every personalized ad for every Instagram user. The number of ads you see is not established as something these settings reduce.

If you’re in the EU: less-personalized ads still include ads
Meta’s EU option lets eligible users continue using Facebook and Instagram with ads while sharing less data for ad personalization. Meta says this can mean less relevant ads and may include brief, unskippable ad breaks. It is distinct from a paid subscription for using the services without ads. Meta’s announcement about less-personalized ads in the EU
On December 8, 2025, the European Commission said the choice would be between sharing all data for fully personalized ads and sharing less personal data for more limited personalization, with the new presentation planned for January 2026. That description applies to the EU; it should not be taken as a worldwide setting. Check the live options in your account to see what is currently available to you. Check activity shared by other businesses
Meta announced that it would retire the Your activity off Meta technologies control and expand Activity from other businesses. The newer control is intended to govern the use of activity businesses share with Meta for ads and non-ad content. Meta said rollout would begin in the United States and some other countries in July 2026, then expand further, so availability and labels can differ by market.
