The correct fix depends on what the alert says and where it appears: the Home app, a named accessory app, a headphone-safety warning, an unwanted-tracking notice, or a Bluetooth pairing prompt. Identify that category first, because silencing one does not disable the others.
Use the matching procedure below. Each section explains the setting’s scope, what it changes, and the requirements or safety consequences you should know before turning anything off.

Identify the notification before changing a setting
Check the alert’s wording and location. An activity alert in Home is managed in Home; a notification bearing an app’s name is managed under that app; a loud-audio warning is a headphone-safety control; and a notice that an unknown tracker is moving with you requires a different response. A Bluetooth connection banner is usually a pairing or permission problem, not a notification preference.
| What you see | Likely source | Correct control | What the change affects |
|---|---|---|---|
| Activity such as a door opening, motion, or a lock change in the Home app | HomeKit or Matter accessory | Home app Home Settings or the accessory’s Status and Notifications page | One accessory, accessory type, or configured activity conditions |
| A banner, sound, badge, or alert named after a companion app | The accessory maker’s iPhone app | Settings > Notifications > that app, plus the app’s own notification menu when available | That app’s notifications and their presentation |
| A warning about listening at a high volume | Headphone Notifications | The Headphone Notifications or Headphone Safety setting, where local rules permit changes | Audio-exposure warnings; it does not control other accessories |
| An alert that an AirTag, AirPods, Find My network accessory, or compatible tracker is moving with you | Unwanted-tracking protection | The options in the tracking alert, including Instructions to Disable | The alert response or the accessory’s tracking behavior; it is not a general Bluetooth switch |
| Repeated connection prompts, pairing failures, or disconnects | Bluetooth connection, permissions, power, or compatibility | Bluetooth and the accessory’s pairing and app-permission settings | Connectivity across Bluetooth accessories, not notification categories |
Some controls appear only when the accessory supports them. Availability can also depend on your iOS or iPadOS release, country or region, Location Services, Bluetooth state, a home hub, and whether location sharing is configured.
Turn off or refine HomeKit and Matter accessory alerts
Supported smart-home accessories can notify you when they detect activity, such as a door sensor detecting an opening. Apple notes that not all smart-home accessories support notifications, so an absent setting can mean the device or its integration does not provide one.

Change notifications for an accessory type
- Open the Home app.
- Tap More (the three-dot button), then choose Home Settings. If you have multiple homes, select the home that contains the accessory.
- Choose the relevant accessory category, such as Locks.
- Select the accessory and turn its notifications on or off.
This type-level route is useful when you want to quiet several similar devices. It does not change notifications from unrelated categories or from a manufacturer’s separate app.
Customize one accessory and its conditions
- In Home, open the individual accessory.
- Tap Settings, then choose Status and Notifications.
- Turn Activity Notifications on or off.
- If supported, set conditions for when alerts are allowed, including time windows or particular people.
People-based conditions require a home hub and the appropriate location-sharing setup. If those options do not appear, check that the home has a supported hub and that the people whose presence is used in the rule have location sharing configured.
Do not confuse Home summaries with activity alerts
Include in Home Summaries controls whether that accessory appears in Home’s summaries. It is separate from Activity Notifications. Removing an accessory from summaries does not necessarily stop an immediate activity alert, and turning off activity notifications does not by itself remove every summary entry.

Apply the setting on every device that receives alerts
Home notifications must be configured on each device where you want to receive them. Changing the setting on an iPhone does not automatically configure another iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. Review the Home notification settings on each device that is still producing alerts.
Stop notifications from an accessory companion app
If the alert names an app—for example, a security-camera, fitness-device, or speaker app—manage it at the iPhone notification level. This is independent of Home and Bluetooth.
- Open Settings and tap Notifications.
- Scroll to and tap the relevant app.
- To block all notifications from it, turn off Allow Notifications.
- To reduce interruptions without blocking everything, leave notifications allowed and adjust only the unwanted options: Lock Screen, Notification Center, banners, sounds, badges, previews, and delivery timing.
Some apps expose a link to their own notification settings on this screen. Use that link when you need to disable a particular event type, such as motion alerts but not battery warnings. The exact categories are supplied by the app, so they differ between accessories.

Reduce interruptions without disabling alerts
- Alert locations: remove banners, Lock Screen entries, or Notification Center delivery while retaining another presentation.
- Sounds and badges: silence audio or remove the app icon count without blocking the alert itself.
- Previews: hide message details on the Lock Screen.
- Scheduled Summary: deliver eligible notifications in a later batch rather than immediately.
- Focus: temporarily delay or filter notifications according to a Focus profile.
Focus and Scheduled Summary change when notifications arrive; they do not disable the accessory’s underlying function. If the accessory continues recording, sensing, or operating automatically, those behaviors must be changed in the accessory’s own controls.
Handle Headphone Notifications safely
Headphone Notifications are audio-exposure warnings, not Bluetooth accessory alerts. After a loud-audio notification, Apple says the next time headphones are connected the iPhone automatically lowers the volume. This protective behavior is separate from app notifications and Home activity alerts.
Open Settings and search for Headphone Notifications or Headphone Safety to review the available control on your iPhone. Menu names and switch availability vary by country or region. In some places the feature is enabled by default and cannot be turned off. Do not assume that an off switch will be available simply because another iPhone model or region shows one.

If your goal is to stop a specific app’s headphone-related banner, change that app under Settings > Notifications instead. Disabling an app’s alerts does not remove the system’s required audio-safety protections where local rules apply.
Respond to an unwanted-tracking alert
An alert about an AirTag, AirPods, a Find My network accessory, or another compatible Bluetooth location-tracking device is a safety notification, not a routine accessory preference. Current compatibility details and minimum software requirements change as new tracker types are supported, so follow the instructions shown by your iPhone rather than relying on an old version number.
Check the conditions that make tracking alerts work
Apple’s tracking-alert system relies on supported software and accessory compatibility, with Location Services, Significant Locations, Bluetooth, and Tracking Notifications enabled and Airplane Mode off. Turning off one of these can prevent your iPhone from warning you; it does not make a tracker stop operating.
If the item is borrowed or belongs to someone you know
A Family Sharing member’s AirTag or other Find My accessory can trigger a warning when it travels with you. From the notification, use the offered option to turn alerts off for one day or indefinitely when that is appropriate for a borrowed item. This quiets the warning for that item; it does not transfer ownership.
Best Value
If you need the tracker to stop sharing its location
- Open the tracking notification and tap Instructions to Disable.
- Follow the on-screen steps for that exact AirTag, AirPods, or Find My network accessory.
- Keep the item with you while completing the process so you can identify the correct device.
Disabling Find My network on your iPhone, turning off Bluetooth, or turning off Location Services does not prevent the item’s owner from seeing the accessory’s location. Those switches affect your phone’s participation and permissions, not the owner’s account. If you believe someone is using a tracker to monitor you, prioritize your safety and contact local law enforcement; Apple says authorities can work with it to request information.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTroubleshoot Bluetooth prompts, pairing, and disconnects
Repeated prompts or a device that will not connect indicate a Bluetooth or compatibility issue rather than a universal notification setting. Work through these checks in order.
- Bring the accessory close. Keep it beside the iPhone while pairing and testing.
- Enter discovery mode. New accessories often require a button press or a specific startup sequence before they appear in the Bluetooth list. Follow the manufacturer’s pairing instructions.
- Power-cycle both devices. Turn the accessory off and on, then restart the iPhone if the connection remains stuck.
- Check power. Charge the accessory or replace its batteries. A low-power device may advertise briefly and then disappear.
- Allow the companion app to use Bluetooth. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Bluetooth and enable permission for the app that controls the accessory.
- Forget and pair again. Open Settings > Bluetooth, tap the information button beside the accessory, choose Forget This Device, confirm, and put the accessory back into discovery mode before pairing it again.
- Remove competing pairings. If the accessory is connected to a tablet, computer, car, or another phone, disconnect or forget it there. Some devices maintain only one active connection.
- Verify compatibility. Check the accessory manufacturer’s supported iPhone models, operating-system versions, Bluetooth profiles, and required app version.
Contact Apple Support when Bluetooth is unavailable or grayed out, when no Bluetooth accessory can connect after these checks, or when the manufacturer has confirmed the accessory works correctly. If only one accessory fails, the manufacturer is usually the appropriate next contact.
Understand the Bluetooth button in Control Center
Tapping Bluetooth in Control Center normally disconnects the iPhone from most connected accessories without fully disabling Bluetooth. Apple lists exceptions, including Apple Watch, Instant Hotspot, Apple Pencil, some accessories governed by Privacy & Security settings, and Continuity features. To turn Bluetooth off completely, open Settings > Bluetooth and use the switch there.
Neither Control Center disconnection nor the full Bluetooth switch is a notification control. Disabling Bluetooth can interrupt keyboards, watches, headphones, trackers, and other devices, while it will not replace Home notification settings or the instructions for an unwanted-tracking alert.

Quick Recap
Choose the right fix by scope and consequence
| Goal | Use | Scope | Important consequence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stop every alert from one accessory app | Settings > Notifications > app > Allow Notifications off | That app on the configured device | The accessory may continue operating and recording in the background. |
| Keep only certain smart-home activity alerts | Home > More > Home Settings, or accessory > Settings > Status and Notifications | Accessory type or individual accessory | People and time conditions may require a hub and location sharing. |
| Remove an accessory from Home summaries | Accessory > Status and Notifications > Include in Home Summaries | Summary presentation | This is not the same as disabling immediate activity notifications. |
| Silence a loud-audio warning | Headphone Notifications or Headphone Safety setting, if available | System audio-safety warnings | Regional rules may make the setting mandatory. |
| Respond to a tracker traveling with you | Options in the tracking alert, especially Instructions to Disable | The identified tracking accessory | Phone Bluetooth or Location Services switches do not hide the item from its owner. |
| Fix pairing or disconnects | Power, discovery mode, permissions, forgetting and re-pairing, and compatibility checks | Bluetooth connectivity | Turning Bluetooth off can disconnect unrelated accessories. |
Common mistakes and their corrections
- Looking for one master switch: iPhone separates Home, app, headphone-safety, tracking, and Bluetooth controls. Start with the alert’s wording.
- Turning off Bluetooth to stop a tracker alert: this can break your own connections but does not stop the tracker owner from seeing its location. Use Instructions to Disable.
- Turning off Home summaries and expecting activity alerts to stop: summaries and immediate activity notifications are separate settings.
- Changing an app setting on one device and expecting every device to follow: Home notifications must be set up on each device where you want them.
- Assuming every accessory supports notifications: unsupported devices will not show the same controls.
- Ignoring permissions: a companion app without Bluetooth permission may repeatedly prompt or fail to connect even when the accessory is charged.
- Assuming Headphone Notifications can always be disabled: country or region can determine whether an off control exists.
A quick checklist
- Read the exact alert and note where it appears.
- Classify it as Home, companion app, headphone safety, unwanted tracking, or Bluetooth connectivity.
- Use only that category’s control.
- Check requirements such as a supported accessory, current software, a home hub, location sharing, Bluetooth, and Location Services.
- Before disabling a safety alert, understand what protection or location sharing remains active.
- If Bluetooth is the problem, power-cycle, check app permission, forget and re-pair, and verify compatibility before seeking support.
