Nothing’s published support guidance does not document a system-wide switch that turns off every translucent or blurred effect. You can check your phone for a blur or transparency control, review the visual options under Settings → Accessibility → Color and Animation, and—if your software exposes it—test Android’s Allow window-level blurs developer option. That Android control is conditional and is not confirmed to govern every translucent surface on a Nothing phone.
The exact result depends on your Nothing phone model, Nothing OS build, the screen showing the effect, and whether the blur is drawn by Android or by an individual app.

What Nothing OS officially documents
Nothing’s official accessibility article directs users to Settings → Accessibility → Color and Animation for visual accessibility features such as color correction. It does not describe that menu as a transparency or blur-reduction control. Finding the menu therefore does not prove that it can remove translucent backgrounds.

First identify where the effect is rendered
Before changing a setting, note the exact screen and behavior. Android’s documentation distinguishes between blur applied behind a window and blur rendered inside an app window. Those are separate implementation types, so one switch cannot be assumed to control every visual effect.

Use the screen name in your notes. “The phone looks transparent” is not specific enough to determine which setting, if any, can affect it.
Check the phone’s Settings search
Nothing’s software can change labels between releases, so the quickest first check is the built-in Settings search.

- Open Settings.
- Tap the search field or magnifying-glass icon.
- Search for blur, then separately search for transparency.
- Open only a result that clearly describes the visual effect you are seeing. Read its description before changing it.
- Return to the affected screen and compare the result. Record the model and software version if the setting has no effect.
If neither search returns a relevant setting, do not infer that a similarly named color or animation option controls translucency. Continue with the accessibility check below and the conditional developer option.
Inspect Accessibility → Color and Animation without assuming it controls transparency
- Open Settings.
- Choose Accessibility.
- Open Color and Animation.
- Review the options your phone actually lists, especially those whose descriptions mention color, contrast, animation, or motion.
- Change one option at a time, then revisit the exact screen where the translucent effect appears.
Nothing’s support documentation associates this location with color correction. It does not verify a transparency or blur switch there. If your build offers an additional visual control in that section, its own description—not the menu name—should determine what it changes.
Test Android’s window-blur option when your phone provides it
The Android Open Source Project documents a developer option at Settings → System → Developer options → Hardware accelerated rendering → Allow window-level blurs. AOSP presents this as a way to test how an app renders with window blur enabled or disabled, not as a guaranteed accessibility feature.

- Open Settings → System → Developer options. If Developer options is not already available, stop here rather than assuming every Nothing model supports the same menu; Nothing’s documentation supplied for this topic does not establish a model-specific activation procedure.
- Scroll to Hardware accelerated rendering.
- Look for Allow window-level blurs.
- If the switch exists, note its current state, change it once, and return immediately to the screen you are testing.
- Check the same panel or app again. If there is no visible change, restore the original state and treat the effect as controlled elsewhere or unsupported by this switch.
AOSP says that when the option is absent, the device does not support window blurs. On a Nothing phone, the presence, label, and practical effect of the option remain unverified without the exact model and software build. Do not interpret an absent switch as proof that every translucent design element can never be changed; it only addresses the window-blur capability described by AOSP.
Why one setting may not remove every translucent effect
In its Android 12 documentation, AOSP states: “In Android 12, public APIs are available for implementing window-blur effects, such as background blur and blur behind.” The statement describes APIs for developers, not a universal user-facing master control.
Blur behind a window
A floating or system window can blur content behind itself. A developer option aimed at window-level blurs is technically relevant to this category, but Nothing-specific support is not confirmed.

Blur inside an app window
An app can draw a blurred card, panel, or image within its own window. Turning off a system window feature would not automatically establish control over that app-rendered content. Look for a setting inside the app if the effect appears only there.
Opacity, dimming, and translucency
A surface can look transparent because it uses partial opacity, a dim layer, a tinted material, or a wallpaper-compositing choice. These appearances are related to blur but are not identical. A blur switch should not be presented as a guaranteed opacity control.
Screen-by-screen troubleshooting
Quick Settings or the notification shade
Open the panel, note whether the background is blurred, merely darkened, or visibly showing the wallpaper, and test any search result or window-blur option against that same panel. If the panel is unchanged, the effect may not be governed by the available developer test switch. Nothing’s published accessibility path does not establish another universal control for this surface.
A single third-party app
If translucency appears in only one app, check that app’s display, theme, or accessibility settings first. The AOSP window-blur option is documented for testing window blur behavior; it is not evidence of a master switch for every in-app visual treatment.
The launcher, home screen, or lock screen
Compare the effect with a different wallpaper or another system screen, but do not assume that a visual change proves a transparency setting exists. Launcher and wallpaper composition can be separate from window-level blur, and Nothing’s support guidance does not identify a general control for them.
Only one Nothing OS build
Write down the phone model, Nothing OS version, Android version if shown, and the exact screen. Settings labels and available developer options can vary by build. A precise answer requires those details; a model-free path cannot verify whether your device includes the relevant control.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming Color and Animation means transparency: Nothing documents that area for color correction and related accessibility features, not as a confirmed blur toggle.
- Treating Allow window-level blurs as a universal off switch: AOSP describes it as a developer testing option, and its effect is limited to the window-blur behavior it controls.
- Continuing when the option is missing: AOSP says an absent option means the device does not support window blurs. Do not invent a hidden path or claim that a different menu must contain it.
- Testing several changes at once: Change one setting, check the same screen, and record the result so you know which control mattered.
- Describing every translucent surface as the same effect: Blur behind a window, blur inside an app, opacity, and dimming can look similar while using different implementations.
What to include when you need device-specific help
For a reliable next step, provide:
- the exact Nothing phone model;
- the Nothing OS and Android versions shown in Settings;
- the screen where the effect appears, such as Quick Settings, a notification, the launcher, lock screen, or one app;
- whether the background is blurred, dimmed, tinted, or simply visible through a translucent panel;
- which relevant search terms and settings you checked; and
- whether Allow window-level blurs appears under Developer options → Hardware accelerated rendering.
Those details distinguish a supported window-blur control from an effect drawn by an app or Nothing’s interface itself. Without them, the safest answer is limited to checking the documented paths and observing whether your particular build exposes a matching option.
