To quiet a puzzle game, turn off its notifications in your phone’s notification settings or the game’s own settings. To restrict spending, use the purchase controls for your Apple or Google account. These are separate controls: muting alerts does not block purchases, and restricting purchases does not silence the game.
Choose the control that matches what you want to stop

Start with the device setting if you want every alert from one game to stop. If you want to keep useful alerts but remove promotions, look for categories in the game’s settings first. Then separately set purchase restrictions or approvals if spending is the concern.

Turn off notifications from a puzzle game
On iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings > Notifications.
- Select the puzzle game.
- Turn off Allow Notifications.
Menu names can vary by iOS version. If the path looks different, search Settings for “Notifications” and select the game from the app list. To keep some alerts, check the game’s own settings before disabling all notifications. Apple’s developer guidance says apps and games must offer an in-app settings screen for changing choices about informational or marketing notifications, but it does not establish the exact menu or categories for any particular puzzle game: Apple’s notification guidance.

On Android
- Open Settings > Notifications > App notifications.
- Select the puzzle game.
- Turn off its notifications.
This is a common Android route, not a universal set of labels; manufacturers and Android versions differ. If an alert is visible, long-pressing it may offer a shortcut to that app’s notification settings. For a child’s supervised Android account, use the child-device notification instructions linked from Google Play Help’s Family Link guidance.

Restrict in-app purchases on iPhone or iPad
Apple documents a Screen Time restriction that disallows in-app purchases. Open Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > iTunes & App Store Purchases > In-app Purchases, then choose Don’t Allow. Screen Time must be enabled; depending on how it is set up, you may be asked for a Screen Time passcode. Apple’s About In-App Purchases page also describes the relevant Screen Time controls.
If the aim is not to prohibit a child’s eligible purchases but to review them first, Apple’s Ask to Buy lets a child send an eligible purchase or download request to a parent or guardian for approval. Availability and defaults can depend on the child’s age and region. Apple explains the family controls in Set up parental controls to manage your child’s iPhone or iPad.

Apple also describes purchase password preferences, including requiring a password for every purchase or every 15 minutes; when biometric authentication is used on a compatible device, Apple says it is required for every transaction. These authentication choices are not the same as turning in-app purchases off. Apple’s current parental-control information describes a newer iOS 27 experience for compatible, updated family devices; older Screen Time controls remain available when devices cannot all be updated. Age, region, account setup, and software version can affect the controls shown, so follow the labels on your device.
Manage purchases on a child’s Android account
For a child’s Google account, Google documents Family Link purchase approvals and Google Play content filters. These are Google Play account controls, not a demonstrated universal switch for every transaction a game might offer. Review the account’s Family Link and Play settings, and use Google Play Help’s instructions for managing a child’s Google Play apps to find the options applicable to that account.

For an adult-managed Android account, review Google Play purchase authentication settings and the game’s account settings, checking the current labels on the device. Check the setting’s scope before relying on it
- Alerts: A phone-level setting controls the selected app’s notifications on that device. A game-level setting may let you change only certain categories.
- Purchase restrictions: A store setting or family approval flow applies within its stated account and platform scope; do not assume it governs every purchase route in every game.
- Who can change it: A Screen Time passcode, family organizer role, or supervised child account may affect who can edit a setting.
- Version and region: Menu labels, available options, defaults, and child-account rules can vary with software, age, and geography. Use the current on-device instructions if labels differ.
