To stop Netflix from automatically starting the next episode on a Firestick, turn off Autoplay Next Episode in the Playback settings for the Netflix profile you use on the device. To stop browsing previews, turn off the separate Autoplay Previews option. Fire TV’s own featured-content autoplay setting is separate and does not replace either Netflix setting.
Turn off Netflix autoplay for the next episode
Netflix stores this preference by profile, so change the setting for the profile selected on your Fire TV Stick. Use a browser on a phone or computer:

- Open the Netflix Account page and sign in if prompted.
- Select Profiles, then choose the profile you use on the Fire TV Stick.
- Open Playback settings.
- Turn off Autoplay Next Episode. Netflix says the preference updates automatically.
- Return to Netflix on the Fire TV Stick. If episodes still start automatically, switch to another Netflix profile and back, or sign out of Netflix on the device and sign in again.
Turn off Netflix previews while browsing
Previews are controlled separately from next-episode playback. In the same profile’s Playback settings, turn off Autoplay Previews. This stops Netflix from automatically playing previews as you browse; it does not control whether the next episode starts after an episode ends. If the change does not appear on the Fire TV Stick, switch profiles and back, or sign out and sign in again. Netflix notes that some older TVs and streaming devices do not support preview autoplay.

Turn off autoplay for Fire TV featured content
If the autoplay you mean happens on the Fire TV home interface rather than inside Netflix, use the Fire TV setting: from the home interface, open Settings > Preferences > Featured Content and toggle off Autoplay. Amazon documents this control for Fire TV featured content. It is independent of Netflix’s profile-level controls, so use the Netflix Playback settings above to stop episodes or previews from automatically playing in Netflix.

If Netflix keeps playing after you change the setting
- Check that you changed the setting for the same Netflix profile currently in use on the Fire TV Stick.
- Refresh Netflix on the device by switching to another profile and back. If needed, sign out and sign in again.
- Confirm you changed the control that matches the behavior: Autoplay Next Episode for episode playback, or Autoplay Previews for browsing previews.
- Netflix lists Fire TV Stick devices as supported, but resolution and features vary by model. No particular Stick model or accessory is required to change profile autoplay settings.
How autoplay relates to Netflix’s “Are you still watching?” prompt
Turning off next-episode autoplay can prevent episodes from starting automatically. Netflix separately says that on TVs and TV streaming devices, its “Are you still watching?” prompt appears after three episodes and 90 minutes of uninterrupted watching. That timing applies to the TV and TV-streaming-device category Netflix describes; it should not be assumed for other device types.
