There is no single switch that turns off every Microsoft Family Safety feature. An organizer can disable screen-time limits, app and game limits, web filtering, and activity reporting separately. If you are an adult member, ask the family organizer to change settings; if restrictions linger on an adult’s Windows device after the account is no longer subject to them, use Microsoft’s device-refresh steps below.
Before you change anything: identify your role and the restriction
Family Safety controls are separate, and access depends on your role. Organizers manage family members’ safety settings. An adult who is in the group as a member currently needs to ask the organizer to change settings enforced by that organizer. Microsoft says a future update is planned to let adults choose whether organizers can manage their safety settings, but it gives no release date; do not assume that option is available now. First decide whether you want to remove a time limit, app restriction, web filter, or activity report. Turning off one does not automatically turn off the others.

Turn off a specific Family Safety feature
Use the Family Safety app or the family account page. Select the relevant family member, then open the section for the control you want to change. The exact tabs can vary by platform.

Screen-time limits
Select the family member, open the Windows, Xbox, or Mobile tab, and turn off the screen-time limits. Microsoft’s instructions describe mobile screen-time limits for Android devices. This changes time limits; it does not disable app restrictions, web filtering, or activity reporting. See Microsoft’s screen-time instructions.
App and game limits
Select the family member and platform, open Apps, features, and games, and turn off App and game limits. Website blocking can also be configured in app and game settings, so check those settings if a site remains blocked after you remove time limits. See Microsoft’s app and game limit instructions.

Web and search filtering
Open the family member’s Web safety or Edge settings and switch off Filter inappropriate websites and searches. If Only use allowed websites is enabled, that is a separate control and must be changed separately. Microsoft says web and search filtering works only in supported browsers and requires the family member to be signed in to their Microsoft account. Changing this filter does not disable other Family Safety features. See Microsoft’s web and search filtering guide.
Activity reporting
In the family member’s settings, turn off activity reporting for the relevant area: Windows, Xbox, Web safety, or Mobile. Reporting is separate from limits and filters. Microsoft says only organizers can enable, disable, and view activity reports. Reporting depends on connected devices, and web reporting is limited to supported browsers while the member is signed in. See Microsoft’s activity reporting guide.

If you are an adult member, ask the organizer
An adult account in a family group with a member role cannot currently make changes to safety settings enforced by the organizer. Ask the organizer to switch off the particular limit, filter, or report you want changed. Microsoft’s support page says, “As of now, only the family organizer can make changes to your safety settings.” The same page describes an anticipated future opt-out choice for adults but does not state when it will arrive.
Refresh an adult’s Windows device if restrictions remain
If you are an adult who is no longer part of a family group, or you have an organizer role, Windows may still apply old settings on an affected device. Microsoft documents running a scheduled task and restarting that computer. Repeat the procedure on each affected device.

- Press Windows+R to open Run.
- Enter
cmdand press Enter to open Command Prompt. - Run this command:
schtasks /run /tn "MicrosoftWindowsShellFamilySafetyRefreshTask" - Restart the computer.
Microsoft’s instructions do not call for running Command Prompt as administrator. See Microsoft’s adult-settings refresh steps.

Leaving a family group is a broader action than disabling one feature. An adult member can leave through the family account site; only an organizer can remove another member. Removing a child account requires the adult who granted consent to remove that consent first, followed by removal from the group. Leaving or being removed does not delete the Microsoft account.
