There is no single, Samsung-documented “turn off GOS” switch that works on every Galaxy phone. The available control depends on your model, One UI version, carrier and region. On Galaxy S22 software documented by Samsung Korea, you can enable Game Performance Management in Game Booster Labs to relax some additional temperature controls. On phones using the One UI 7 arrangement, you choose Performance under Game optimization and can tune individual games. Neither path is documented as a guaranteed, complete shutdown of the Game Optimizing Service (GOS). Samsung says temperature-based throttling remains active when the phone gets hot.
What GOS does on a Galaxy phone
GOS stands for Game Optimizing Service. Samsung describes it as a service that monitors the phone while a game is running and adjusts operation to help prevent stutter, excessive performance loss and excessive power consumption. Samsung’s Galaxy S22 support response, dated March 7, 2022, says GOS is intended for demanding games and helps manage heat; it does not operate in the same way for ordinary non-game apps.

That means a setting that changes game optimization is not necessarily an uninstall or package-level disable. The phone can still monitor temperature and reduce performance when necessary to protect the device. Samsung’s S22 explanation states that, regardless of the software update discussed there, throttling operates when the smartphone reaches a high temperature so it does not continue rising beyond a threshold.
Before changing anything: identify the exact Galaxy software
Menu names are not consistent across the Galaxy range. Samsung warns that available screens and settings vary by model, software version, wireless provider and region. First record the information that determines which instructions apply:

- Model: Open Settings > About phone and note the model name and model number.
- One UI and Android versions: In Settings > About phone > Software information, record the One UI version and Android version.
- Game tools: Check whether your phone calls the launcher Game Launcher or Gaming Hub, and whether Game Booster appears when a game is open.
- Region and carrier: Firmware supplied by a different market or carrier can expose different Game Booster options even when the phone model is similar.
If a path below does not match your screen, do not assume the feature has been removed or that the phone is defective. Verify the model’s regional Samsung manual or support page before trying another procedure.
What you need—and what you do not need
These are software settings on a phone you already own. You do not need a new Galaxy phone, a special USB cable, a controller or a paid utility to follow either documented path. A clip-on cooler can sometimes make a handset feel cooler during play, but it does not turn off GOS or remove Samsung’s thermal safeguards. Treat cooling hardware as an optional accessory, not as a substitute for the Game Booster settings.
There is also no charge associated with enabling Game Performance Management or selecting Performance. The only practical costs are the trade-offs Samsung documents: higher performance can use the battery faster, and a demanding game can make the phone warmer. Keep the phone’s normal software and Game Booster components updated rather than paying for an app that promises a universal GOS switch.

Samsung Electronics Service Korea documents a Game Performance Management option for the Galaxy S22. The wording is easy to misread: you turn on Game Performance Management to relax additional game-performance controls. You are not turning on GOS itself, and Samsung does not describe this as a universal service shutdown.
Path from Game Launcher
- Open Game Launcher.
- Tap More.
- Choose Game Booster.
- Open Labs.
- Turn on Game Performance Management.
Path while a game is running
- Launch the game.
- Open the Game Booster panel by tapping its icon on the in-game toolbar. If the toolbar is hidden, swipe as you normally would to reveal the navigation or game-tools panel.
- Tap Settings.
- Open Labs.
- Turn on Game Performance Management.
Samsung describes this option as relaxing additional temperature control. Normal temperature-based protection is still expected to operate. If the handset becomes hot, the system can reduce the processor or graphics workload regardless of this Lab setting.
After enabling the option, close and reopen the game before judging the result. Use the same graphics and frame-rate choices you used before the change. A profile change can affect how Game Booster manages the session, but it cannot override a game’s own frame cap or the phone’s temperature limit.
One UI 7: select Performance and adjust games individually
Samsung’s One UI 7 guidance reorganizes Game Booster controls. On a phone with this layout, use the following path:

- Open Gaming Hub.
- Tap More options (the three-dot button).
- Choose Game Booster.
- Tap Game optimization.
- Select Performance.
This changes the optimization mode used by Game Booster; it does not establish that every GOS component has stopped. One UI 7 also provides controls for particular games:
- Remain in Game Booster and open Customizations for individual games.
- Select the game you want to change.
- Adjust the available optimization level, FPS, screen resolution and frame booster settings.
- Save the change, then relaunch the game so its profile is applied.
Per-game settings are useful when one title needs more performance but another benefits from lower power use. They are not the same as a global GOS-off command. If a game is missing from the list, open it once through Gaming Hub or Game Booster, then check the individual-game page again. Availability still depends on the title and software build.

What the optimization modes change
Samsung documents three broad Game Booster modes: Performance, Standard and Battery saver. The practical trade-offs are:

The table describes Samsung’s documented intent, not a guaranteed frame rate. Actual FPS depends on the game, firmware, device temperature and the phone’s hardware. Selecting Performance cannot prevent thermal throttling once the handset reaches its protection threshold.
Choose Performance when short-term responsiveness is the priority and you can accept faster battery drain. Choose Standard for mixed use or long sessions where consistency matters more than peak settings. Choose Battery saver when you are away from a charger or the phone is already warm. If one game is unusually demanding, a per-game profile is more precise than changing the global mode for every title.
Why “turn off GOS” can mean different things
Changing optimization policy
The S22 Game Performance Management option and the One UI 7 Performance mode change how Game Booster manages a game. They are the supported user-facing controls described by Samsung for these software versions.
Stopping the service itself
A complete service shutdown would mean preventing the system component from running at all. Samsung’s cited consumer instructions do not establish a universal switch for that action across Galaxy phones. They also do not direct ordinary users to disable system packages as a routine setting change. Therefore, do not present the Game Booster options as proof that GOS has been completely stopped.
Removing thermal protection
Neither documented path removes the phone’s temperature safeguards. Samsung explicitly says high-temperature throttling remains active. A hotter phone can also consume power more quickly and may become uncomfortable to hold, so a higher setting is not automatically a better gaming experience.

Do not assume that changing the setting will produce a fixed FPS increase. Samsung reported an average improvement of “approximately 10 Frame” for Genshin Impact in the referenced Galaxy S22 software update when Game Performance Management was enabled. That is Samsung’s result for that update, phone and game; it is not an independent benchmark or a general promise for other Galaxy models or titles.
Your result can be smaller, zero or temporary if the game is limited by its own frame-rate cap, network conditions, graphics settings or heat. If the phone starts cool and then warms during a long session, the initial frame rate may not match the sustained frame rate after thermal controls engage.
For a fair comparison, use the same game version, map or workload and graphics preset. Compare sustained play rather than a single opening minute. Online latency is not an FPS measurement, so separate network lag from rendering stutter when deciding whether the setting helped.

When to use a global setting versus a per-game profile
A global Performance choice is simple when most of your games are demanding and you routinely play near a charger. It affects the Game Booster policy broadly, so remember that it may increase consumption in games that did not need extra resources.

Lowering resolution or FPS for one game can reduce heat without changing how every other game behaves. Samsung’s One UI 7 controls expose these choices where the phone and game support them.
Neither approach changes the fact that the phone can intervene when it reaches its thermal threshold. A profile is a preference, not a promise that the selected FPS will be sustained in every environment.
If the option is missing
Game Launcher and Gaming Hub are different labels
Older or region-specific software may show Game Launcher, while One UI 7 documentation uses Gaming Hub. Search the app list for both names and open the game-related settings from the app that is installed. A missing label does not prove that the feature is unavailable; it may have moved after a software update.
Check the firmware and model
Return to Settings > About phone > Software information and compare the One UI version with the instructions you are following. Then verify the exact model number and regional support documentation. The S22 Labs path is model- and software-specific, while the One UI 7 arrangement is an organizational change documented for compatible software.
Update Game Booster components
Open the phone’s Galaxy app store and check for updates to Game Booster or Gaming Hub if those components are listed. Menu availability can depend on the installed Game Booster version as well as the system firmware. Restart the phone after an update before checking the menus again.
Open the controls from a running game
If Game Booster settings are not visible in the launcher, start a game and open the in-game Game Booster panel. Some versions expose the settings only after a supported game is recognized. If no Game Booster icon appears, the title may not be recognized as a game or the feature may be unavailable in that firmware build.
Check the regional support page
Samsung’s menus can differ between countries and carrier variants. Search Samsung Support for the exact model number and local software version rather than relying on a screenshot from another market. If the regional manual does not list Game Performance Management or the One UI 7 path, Samsung may not expose that control on your build.
Do not use package-disabling instructions as a first step
Samsung’s consumer guidance cited here does not tell users to remove or disable system packages. Such procedures can break game tools, notifications or future updates and can make troubleshooting harder. Use the documented Game Booster controls first; if the setting is absent, confirm the model, version and region with Samsung support.

How to evaluate the change safely
- Record a baseline: Play the same game at the same graphics and frame-rate settings for a repeatable period while noting battery level, approximate temperature and whether stutter occurs.
- Change one control: Use either Game Performance Management, the global Performance mode or one per-game profile. Changing several settings at once makes the result difficult to interpret.
- Test a sustained session: Check the game again after the phone has warmed, not only during the first few minutes.
- Watch for trade-offs: Compare smoothness with battery drain, heat and comfort. A short-lived higher frame rate may not be worthwhile if the phone throttles later.
- Revert if necessary: Return to Standard or the previous per-game values if the phone becomes too warm, battery drain is excessive or the game becomes unstable.
This process measures your own device and game without treating Samsung’s S22-specific result as a universal benchmark. Do not test while the phone is covered by bedding or another insulating surface, and stop a session if the handset becomes uncomfortably hot.
Common questions about disabling GOS
Does choosing Performance disable GOS?
No. It selects the most performance-oriented Game Booster mode documented for the One UI 7 layout. Samsung does not describe it as a complete service shutdown, and thermal management continues.
Why does the phone still throttle after enabling Game Performance Management?
