To turn off a Galaxy AI feature, open Settings > Galaxy AI (or Settings > Advanced features > Galaxy AI), open the relevant category, and switch off each feature you do not want. Samsung does not provide one universal switch that removes every AI-enabled function. If your concern is cloud processing rather than the feature itself, enable Process data only on device in the Galaxy AI settings. Menu names and available controls vary by Galaxy model, One UI version, country, carrier and software release.
Turn off an individual Galaxy AI feature
Use this route first when you want to stop a particular function, such as a call-assistance option, translation tool or writing feature.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Galaxy AI. On some phones and tablets, the path is Settings > Advanced features > Galaxy AI. Samsung also uses the name Awesome Intelligence on some devices.
- Open the category containing the feature. Examples include Call assist and Writing assist.
- Tap the individual feature or function you want to stop.
- Turn its switch off. Repeat these steps for every feature you do not use; disabling one category does not automatically disable the others.
- Restart the phone or tablet after changing the settings.
If you cannot find Galaxy AI, use the search icon in Settings and search for Galaxy AI, Awesome Intelligence, or the feature name. A missing menu does not necessarily mean the device lacks the feature; Samsung changes the location and wording between models and software versions.

Why there is no single “turn off Galaxy AI” switch
Galaxy AI is a group of separate tools rather than one application. Samsung’s support guidance describes choosing a Galaxy AI submenu and switching off the wanted functions individually. Some controls are exposed in the main Galaxy AI page, while others are placed in the app that uses them.
#1 Best Overall
- PRIVACY DISPLAY: Automatically hide your screen from those beside you. The built-in privacy display can be preset¹ to turn on when receiving notifications, typing passwords, or using specific apps
- TYPE IT IN. TRANSFORM IT FAST: Enhance any shot in seconds on your smartphone by using Photo Assist² with Galaxy AI.³ Add objects, restore details, or apply new styles by simply typing or tapping
- NIGHTS, CAPTURED CLEARLY: From gigs to city lights, record and capture moments after dark with clarity using Nightography so your photos and videos stay crisp and clear on your Samsung Galaxy
- MAKE IT. EDIT IT. SHARE IT: Turn everyday moments into something personal with creative tools built right into your mobile phone, whether it’s a special contact photo, custom wallpaper, an invitation or more⁴
- HELP THAT KEEPS UP: Stay in the moment while Now Nudge with Galaxy AI helps you respond faster and stay organized with smart suggestions⁵ that appear exactly when you need them on your phone
Samsung also warns that some AI capabilities are integrated into the operating system and cannot be disabled. Therefore, turning off every visible switch may reduce or stop optional features without completely removing every AI-assisted system behavior. Do not expect a factory-style “uninstall Galaxy AI” option or a guarantee that every AI component can be removed.
Feature controls and what each setting changes
| Control location | What to do | What it affects |
|---|---|---|
| Settings > Galaxy AI | Open a category and switch off each unwanted feature. | Individual Galaxy AI functions exposed by your model and software. |
| Settings > Advanced features > Galaxy AI | Use this path when Galaxy AI is nested under Advanced features. | The same type of per-feature controls, with menu placement differing by device. |
| Process data only on device | Turn this option on in Galaxy AI settings. | Disables cloud-based processing for Galaxy AI features that support on-device processing; it does not turn off the features themselves. |
| Inside a supported app | Open that app’s settings and look for its AI controls. | AI options specific to that app, which may not appear in the main Galaxy AI list. |
| Samsung Keyboard toolbar | Remove the shortcut through the toolbar’s More options and Add menu. | Only the visible Writing assist or Chat assist icon; removing the icon is separate from disabling the feature. |
Choose between turning features off and blocking cloud processing
These are different decisions:
- Turn off a feature: stops that selected function from operating, such as a translation or writing-assistance option.
- Process data only on device: keeps Galaxy AI processing limited to on-device options when available. Cloud-dependent functions may stop working or become unavailable, but the feature switches can remain on.
To limit cloud use, open Settings > Galaxy AI and enable Process data only on device. Review the resulting behavior for each feature: an on-device setting cannot make a cloud-only function work offline. This control is not a substitute for switching off individual features you simply do not want to use.
Check the app itself when a switch is missing
Samsung identifies several apps that can have their own AI controls. If a tool continues to appear or you cannot find its switch in the main list, open the relevant app and inspect its settings.

Apps that may contain separate AI settings
- Phone
- Notes
- Camera
- Gallery
- Samsung Messages
- Samsung Health
- SmartThings
The exact setting name depends on the app and software version. Look for labels containing AI, assist, translation, summary or a feature name you recognize. Turn off the option in the app, then return to Galaxy AI settings to check whether a related system-level switch is also present. Avoid assuming that an app-level control disables similarly named tools elsewhere.
Example: disable Writing assist or Chat assist completely enough for your needs
Writing assist and Chat assist illustrate why a function switch and a shortcut can be separate.
Disable the feature
- Open Settings.
- Tap Galaxy AI.
- Choose Writing assist. On some devices the entry is called Chat assist.
- Select the specific function, such as Chat translation.
- Switch it off.
This stops the selected Writing assist or Chat assist function. The keyboard icon may still be visible because the toolbar shortcut is controlled separately.

- TYPE IT IN. TRANSFORM IT FAST: Enhance any shot in seconds on your smartphone by using Photo Assist¹ with Galaxy AI.² Add objects, restore details, or apply new styles by simply typing or tapping

Hide the keyboard icon
- Open any app with a text field so Samsung Keyboard appears.
- On the keyboard toolbar, tap More options.
- Tap Add.
- Remove the Writing assist or Chat assist icon from the toolbar.
- Tap Done.
Removing the icon changes the keyboard layout; it does not, by itself, disable the underlying feature. Conversely, switching off the feature does not necessarily remove its shortcut.
Restart and verify the result
Samsung advises restarting after changing Galaxy AI settings. A restart helps the phone reload system and app components that may already be running.
- Hold the device’s power button (or use the power menu) and choose Restart.
- After the device starts, open the app or screen where the feature appeared.
- Confirm that the function no longer runs or that it now asks you to enable it.
- If a button or icon remains, determine whether it is only a shortcut. For Samsung Keyboard, use the separate toolbar-removal steps above.
- If the feature still operates, check both the app’s settings and the main Galaxy AI page for a second, related control.
When the Galaxy AI menu or switch is not where the instructions say
The menu is under a different heading
Try Settings > Advanced features > Galaxy AI, then search Settings for “Galaxy AI” or “Awesome Intelligence.” Samsung’s labels can change with One UI updates, and a support page written for one release may not match another exactly.

The feature is not listed
Open the app associated with the function and inspect its settings. Phone, Notes, Camera, Gallery, Samsung Messages, Samsung Health and SmartThings may expose controls independently. If neither the app nor Galaxy AI settings contains a switch, the function may be integrated into the system or unavailable for your device.
The switch is present on another device but not yours
Availability depends on the device model, software version, One UI release, country or region and carrier. Samsung’s support wording is explicit: “Available Galaxy AI features may vary depending on your device and software version.” A menu shown in a guide for another Galaxy model is not proof that the same control exists on yours.
The feature returns after an update
Recheck Galaxy AI and the relevant app after a major software update. Updates can rename categories, move controls or add a new feature with its own default setting. Reapply only the switches you actually want changed, then restart again.

What you can and cannot control
| Your goal | Best setting or action | Limit to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Stop one unwanted AI function | Open its Galaxy AI category and switch it off. | Other AI functions remain enabled until you disable them separately. |
| Reduce cloud processing | Enable Process data only on device. | Only on-device-capable processing remains; this is not a global feature shutoff. |
| Remove an AI button from Samsung Keyboard | Edit the toolbar through More options > Add, remove the icon, and tap Done. | The shortcut’s visibility and the feature’s enabled state are separate. |
| Remove every AI-enabled system function | No universal procedure is promised. | Samsung says some AI features are integrated into the system and cannot be disabled. |
Before troubleshooting, record your device details
When asking Samsung or another technician for model-specific help, note the exact Galaxy model, Android and One UI versions, carrier and country or region. Those details determine which Galaxy AI features and switches are offered. Include the feature’s name and the app or screen where you see it. This is more useful than reporting only that “Galaxy AI” is still on, because several unrelated features can use that label.
Practical checklist
- Search Settings for Galaxy AI or Awesome Intelligence.
- Check both Settings > Galaxy AI and Settings > Advanced features > Galaxy AI.
- Open each relevant category and switch off unwanted features individually.
- Inspect the associated app when no main-list switch exists.
- Enable Process data only on device if your goal is to avoid cloud-based processing.
- For Writing assist or Chat assist, disable the function and separately remove its keyboard toolbar icon if desired.
- Restart the device and test the original feature location.
- Accept that some system-integrated functions may not be disableable.
Bottom line
Galaxy AI is managed as a collection of per-feature and, in some cases, per-app switches. Start in the Galaxy AI settings, use the app’s own settings when necessary, and restart after making changes. Use the on-device-processing option for a cloud-processing preference, but do not treat it as a master off switch. Because Samsung varies menus and availability by device, software version, region and carrier—and says some AI functions are built into the system—your Settings app is the final authority on what can be disabled.
