Crossplay can be turned off on supported console versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 through Options → Settings → Account & Network. Choose the relevant control—Multiplayer Unranked Crossplay or Ranked Crossplay—and set it to OFF. Warzone’s documented toggle applies to Ranked playlists. Microsoft Store and Xbox PC app players must change an Xbox privacy setting instead, while Activision says Steam and Battle.net players cannot disable crossplay in Black Ops 6. These instructions are title- and mode-specific; they should not be assumed to work for every Call of Duty release.
Which Call of Duty crossplay setting are you trying to change?
“Call of Duty” covers several games, platforms and playlists, so there is no single universal switch. Activision’s documented instructions cover Black Ops 6 and Warzone, with different controls for unranked Multiplayer, ranked Multiplayer and Warzone Ranked.

Before changing anything, identify four things: the exact Call of Duty title, whether you are playing on a console or PC, the launcher or store version on PC, and the playlist. Those details determine whether an in-game toggle exists and which label you should see. A setting named Multiplayer Unranked Crossplay is not interchangeable with Ranked Crossplay, and Warzone’s documented setting is specifically tied to Ranked play.

Activision warns that turning crossplay off may negatively affect matchmaking quality. That warning does not establish a specific queue time, player-count change, skill distribution or cheating rate, so treat the setting as a platform filter rather than a promise of faster or fairer games.

Turn off crossplay in Black Ops 6 Multiplayer on a console
Multiplayer Unranked
- From the Black Ops 6 main screen, open Options.
- Select Settings.
- Open Account & Network.
- Find Multiplayer Unranked Crossplay.
- Choose OFF.
With this option off, Activision describes matchmaking as limited to the platform on which you are playing. The setting is specifically for unranked Multiplayer; changing it does not automatically describe what happens in Ranked Multiplayer or Warzone Ranked.
If you normally move between playlists, check the active control after switching modes. The menu can expose separate preferences because unranked and ranked matchmaking are handled independently. Turning off the unranked control is therefore not a shortcut for changing ranked play.
Multiplayer Ranked
- Open Options.
- Go to Settings → Account & Network.
- Select Ranked Crossplay.
- Set it to OFF.
Black Ops 6 presents Ranked Crossplay separately from Multiplayer Unranked Crossplay. If you want platform-restricted matchmaking in both playlists, check each control independently. Ranked Crossplay offers ON, ON (CONSOLE ONLY) and OFF; selecting OFF limits Ranked matchmaking to the current platform.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The platform restriction is about the platform you are currently using, not every platform associated with your Activision account. For example, a console session with OFF is described as current-console matchmaking; it does not turn off crossplay for a separate PC installation.
Turn off crossplay in Warzone Ranked
Activision’s documented Warzone control is for Ranked playlists. It should not be silently extended to every Warzone mode.
- Open Options.
- Select Settings, then Account & Network.
- Locate Ranked Crossplay.
- Choose OFF.
This restricts the documented Warzone Ranked matchmaking to your current gaming platform. If a non-ranked Warzone playlist does not show the same control, that is expected from the scope of Activision’s instructions; use the labels shown for your installed title and playlist rather than applying the Ranked path by assumption.
Warzone and Black Ops 6 can use similar menu wording, but similar wording does not prove that every mode has the same behavior. Confirm that you are changing the setting while the intended game and playlist are selected, especially if you alternate between Warzone and the Black Ops 6 Multiplayer menus.

What ON, ON (CONSOLE ONLY) and OFF mean
| Setting | Platforms included in matchmaking | Availability described by Activision | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| ON | All supported platforms for that playlist | Documented for console crossplay controls | Largest potential pool; no platform restriction |
| ON (CONSOLE ONLY) | Other supported console platforms, excluding PC | Listed for Black Ops 6 console controls | Narrower pool and possible negative matchmaking-quality impact |
| OFF | Only the platform you are currently using | Documented for Black Ops 6 Multiplayer and Warzone Ranked controls | Activision warns matchmaking quality may be negatively affected |
ON (CONSOLE ONLY) is not the same as OFF. It can still match you with players on other console platforms, whereas OFF limits matchmaking to your current platform. The exact choices can vary by game, playlist and update.
Use ON when you want the broadest supported pool. Use ON (CONSOLE ONLY) when you want to exclude PC while still allowing other console platforms. Use OFF only when the documented current-platform restriction is the goal. Activision’s warning applies to the narrower choices: the documentation says console-only and OFF may negatively affect matchmaking quality.
None of these labels supplies a guaranteed result for wait time, connection quality, opponent skill or the number of available matches. They describe which platform groups may be included; the actual experience can vary by playlist, region and the players searching at that moment.
Microsoft Store and Xbox PC app: use the Xbox privacy control
Players running the Microsoft Store version or Xbox PC app version do not have access to the in-game crossplay setting described for console Black Ops 6. Activision directs these players to the Xbox PC app:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Open the Xbox PC app.
- Select your Gamertag at the top of the app and choose Settings.
- Open the Account tab.
- Scroll to Privacy settings and select Manage.
- Choose the tab named Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10 devices Online Safety.
- Set You can join cross-network play to Block.
- Select Submit.
This is an Xbox account privacy setting rather than a game-menu toggle. Because it is managed outside the game, it can affect cross-network play according to the Xbox account configuration, not just one visible Black Ops 6 playlist. If you later want cross-network play restored, return to the same control and change it from Block.

Do not look for the console menu path in the Microsoft Store or Xbox PC version and assume that a missing option means the installation is broken. Activision’s platform instructions specifically direct these PC players to the Xbox PC app privacy control. The important value is You can join cross-network play, and the required value for blocking it is Block; selecting Submit saves the change.
Steam and Battle.net: the documented limitation
Activision states: “Crossplay cannot be disabled when playing on Steam or Battle.net.” That means Black Ops 6 players on those PC launchers should not be sent to the console menu path or told to look for a hidden PC toggle. The documented support position is that crossplay remains enabled on those platforms.
This limitation is launcher-specific in the documented instructions. A PC player must first determine whether the game was installed through Steam, Battle.net, Microsoft Store or the Xbox PC app. The Microsoft Store and Xbox PC app route uses Xbox privacy settings; Steam and Battle.net do not have that supported disable route.

Changing an Activision account link, unlinking a platform or altering unrelated account details is not established as a crossplay workaround. Keep account-link changes separate from this setting; they can affect access and progression without providing the requested matchmaking control.
Xbox console priority: when the in-game choice does not stick
Activision notes that Xbox console players may adjust crossplay in the game or through console settings, and that console settings take priority over in-game settings. If you select OFF in Black Ops 6 but matchmaking behaves as though crossplay is still enabled, inspect the Xbox console’s cross-network-play setting and make sure it is not overriding the game selection.
The priority rule is particularly important when an Xbox account has family, privacy or safety restrictions. A console-level policy can determine whether cross-network play is allowed even when the game menu shows a different preference.
When troubleshooting, compare the two layers rather than repeatedly changing the in-game option. First note the value shown under Account & Network; then inspect the Xbox console’s cross-network setting. If the console policy conflicts with the game preference, the console policy is the one Activision says takes priority.

What changes after crossplay is disabled?
- Matchmaking scope narrows: for the documented OFF controls, the game searches for players on the current gaming platform only.
- Queue quality can decline: Activision warns that disabling crossplay may negatively affect matchmaking quality. The documentation does not quantify the effect.
- Controls remain playlist-specific: unranked Multiplayer and Ranked Multiplayer use separate Black Ops 6 settings. Warzone’s documented control is for Ranked.
- Platform and launcher matter: console, Xbox PC app, Microsoft Store, Steam and Battle.net versions do not expose the same control.
- Cross-progression is separate: turning crossplay off does not disable cross-progression. Activision describes progression as stored on the Activision account for linked platforms in supported games.
Do not interpret a platform-only queue as a guarantee about opponent ability, fairness, latency, population size or cheating. Those outcomes depend on the active playlist, region, time and player population, and the cited support instructions provide no measured statistics.
Disabling crossplay is therefore a matchmaking choice, not an account migration. It does not require unlinking your Activision account, and it does not erase or suspend the cross-progression arrangement described for supported linked platforms. If you play on more than one supported platform, keep the account and progression questions separate from the platform filter.
Troubleshooting when you cannot find or change the setting
The menu item is missing
- Confirm which Call of Duty title is running; the documented path is for Black Ops 6 and the specified Warzone Ranked control.
- Check the playlist. Black Ops 6 Unranked and Ranked use different labels, and Warzone’s documented toggle is Ranked.
- Confirm your platform. Steam and Battle.net do not provide a supported disable option for Black Ops 6, while Microsoft Store and Xbox PC app players use Xbox privacy settings.
- Check whether you are on a console or a PC store version. The console in-game path should not be assumed for every PC installation.
The setting is present but matchmaking still includes other platforms
- On Xbox console, check the console cross-network setting because Activision says it takes priority over the in-game choice.
- On the Xbox PC app, verify that You can join cross-network play is set to Block and select Submit.
- Recheck the exact playlist after changing the setting; a control changed for one mode does not automatically document a change for another.
- Make sure you are evaluating the correct installation. Steam or Battle.net Black Ops 6 has no supported disable control, while Xbox PC app and Microsoft Store users follow a different route.
Matches take longer or feel different
That is consistent with Activision’s warning that matchmaking quality may be negatively affected when crossplay is disabled. The support material does not provide a guaranteed wait time or a measured explanation, so the practical choice is whether platform restriction matters more to you than access to the broader matchmaking pool.
I changed the option but another mode is unchanged
Check whether you changed Multiplayer Unranked Crossplay or Ranked Crossplay. Black Ops 6 lists those controls separately, and the Warzone instruction documented here concerns Ranked. A successful change in one control should not be treated as proof that every other playlist has also been restricted.
I want to turn crossplay back on
Return to the same control used to disable it and select ON, or select ON (CONSOLE ONLY) if that is the intended compromise on a supported console menu. Xbox PC app users should return to You can join cross-network play, change Block to the desired allowed value, and select Submit. On Steam and Battle.net, Activision’s stated limitation remains that crossplay cannot be disabled.

Black Ops 7 and other Call of Duty releases
An official Black Ops 7 page located for this topic confirms crossplay and cross-progression support but does not provide instructions for disabling crossplay. Do not assume the Black Ops 6 menu path exists in Black Ops 7 or in another Call of Duty release. Open that game’s current Account & Network settings, look for a title-specific crossplay label, and consult the current Activision support page if the control is absent.
Menu names, available modes and platform rules can change with later titles and updates. The safest approach is to identify the exact game, launcher, platform and playlist before changing a setting. Crossplay support alone does not establish that a title offers an OFF option, nor does it establish that the same option is available in every mode.
Quick decision checklist
- Playing Black Ops 6 Multiplayer Unranked on a console? Use Multiplayer Unranked Crossplay → OFF.
- Playing Black Ops 6 Multiplayer Ranked on a console? Use Ranked Crossplay → OFF.
- Playing Warzone Ranked on a console? Use Ranked Crossplay → OFF.
- Using the Microsoft Store or Xbox PC app? Block You can join cross-network play in Xbox PC app privacy settings.
- Using Steam or Battle.net for Black Ops 6? Activision says crossplay cannot be disabled.
- On an Xbox console where the choice is ignored? Check the console setting because it overrides the in-game selection.
- Using Black Ops 7 or another release? Verify that title’s current controls rather than reusing the Black Ops 6 instructions.

Activision says Xbox console settings take priority over in-game settings. Check the console’s cross-network-play setting for a conflicting account, family or safety policy.
Does disabling crossplay disable cross-progression?
No. Crossplay and cross-progression are separate. Activision describes progression as stored on the Activision account for linked platforms in supported games.
Will turning crossplay off make matches faster or fairer?
There is no such guarantee. Activision warns that matchmaking quality may be negatively affected, but does not provide measured queue, skill, fairness or cheating outcomes.
The Bottom Line
For supported console controls, use Options → Settings → Account & Network, then set the appropriate Black Ops 6 or Warzone Ranked crossplay control to OFF. Microsoft Store and Xbox PC app players must block You can join cross-network play in Xbox privacy settings. Steam and Battle.net players cannot disable Black Ops 6 crossplay according to Activision, and every setting should be checked against the exact title and playlist.
