On a computer, start your movie on Hulu.com, open the gear-shaped Settings menu in the playback controls, and switch Autoplay off. Hulu’s computer instructions describe turning Autoplay on; switching that same control off is the direct reverse of the documented action. The official steps available here apply to computer playback, not necessarily Hulu’s mobile or TV-connected apps.
Turn off Hulu Autoplay on a computer
Use this procedure when you are watching Hulu in a desktop or laptop web browser:

- Go to Hulu.com and sign in.
- Start the movie you want to watch.
- Move the pointer over the video so the playback controls appear.
- Select the gear-shaped Settings icon in the player.
- Find Autoplay in that menu.
- If Autoplay is enabled, switch the control off.
Hulu’s Help Center page, published November 28, 2025, explicitly tells viewers to open the Settings (gear-wheel) menu during playback to enable Autoplay. It does not separately print an “off” procedure, so the instruction to switch the same control off is an inference from the setting itself rather than a separately quoted Hulu instruction.

The relevant control is in the player’s in-playback Settings menu, not in a general account-help page. If you open Settings before playback starts, or on a screen that does not expose the full player controls, Autoplay may not be visible. Start the movie first, then open the gear menu.

What Hulu Autoplay actually controls
Hulu describes Autoplay as automatically queuing and playing “the next available episode or related show” when the program you are watching is coming to an end. That means the setting is intended to control what Hulu starts after the current program finishes.
The wording does not establish that finishing one movie will always start another movie. A movie may be followed by a related program or another item selected by Hulu, but the official description does not define every possible recommendation or handoff. Turning Autoplay off is therefore the appropriate way to stop Hulu from automatically moving on to the next available item, without assuming that the next item must be another film.

The device limitation matters because Hulu can present different controls in a browser, phone or tablet app, and TV-connected app. The documented computer workflow should not be presented as a universal Hulu setting path.

If Hulu still starts something after your movie
Confirm that you changed the setting during playback
Return to the movie player on Hulu.com and open the gear-shaped Settings menu while the movie is playing. The official computer instructions place Autoplay in that in-player menu. If you changed a different account or playback option, it would not necessarily affect Autoplay.
Check whether you are watching a download
Hulu says Autoplay is disabled when streaming downloaded shows or movies. Its download-help page, published October 2, 2026, states: “NOTE: Autoplay is disabled when streaming downloads.” Downloaded playback therefore should not require an additional Autoplay switch.
Identify the device before applying the computer steps
If the movie is playing in a phone, tablet, smart-TV, game-console, or other TV-connected app, the available official material does not confirm that the browser instructions apply. Avoid treating the absence of a gear menu, or a differently labeled menu, as proof that the setting is missing; the documented evidence simply does not establish the current app-specific path.

Do not assume the choice is shared everywhere
The available Hulu instructions do not establish whether an Autoplay preference is saved across devices or profiles. A change made while watching on a computer therefore cannot be represented as guaranteed to change behavior on a television or mobile device. If you use several devices, check the relevant player on each one rather than relying on an assumed account-wide setting.

Hulu’s download guidance provides a separate, useful distinction: Autoplay is disabled when streaming downloads. This is different from changing the Autoplay control in the computer player during online playback.
- Online playback: use the gear-shaped Settings menu during playback on Hulu.com and switch Autoplay off.
- Downloaded playback: Hulu says Autoplay is already disabled while the download is being streamed.
The download statement does not describe a setting that must be enabled or disabled manually, and it does not establish how Hulu behaves after you return to ordinary online streaming.

Common points of confusion
“I only want the movie to stop at the credits.”
The Autoplay control concerns what Hulu queues or plays as the current program ends. The official wording does not promise a particular pause screen, countdown, or credits behavior, so turning Autoplay off should be understood as stopping the automatic transition to the next available episode or related show—not as a documented change to every end-of-movie screen.
“Will it stop Hulu from recommending anything?”
No such broader effect is established by the available instructions. Hulu’s description is specifically about automatically queuing and playing the next available episode or related show when the current program is ending. Recommendations that remain visible in the interface are not described as being removed by this control.
“Will one movie always trigger another movie?”
Hulu’s wording refers to an episode or related show. It does not establish that the next item after a movie must be another movie, nor does it enumerate every type of content that can be queued. Use the setting to control the automatic handoff, not to infer a fixed movie-to-movie rule.
