In macOS 27, the supported way to disable Siri AI is System Settings > Siri > Turn Off Siri, then confirm by clicking Turn Off Siri again. You can subsequently enable Use Siri Classic if you want the traditional voice assistant without the newer Siri AI features. Other Apple Intelligence functions—such as message summaries, notification summaries and Mail smart replies—have separate switches, while ChatGPT is controlled as an optional Siri extension.
Turn off Siri AI (Beta)
This procedure disables Siri AI itself. It is reversible, and it uses Apple’s normal settings rather than unsupported Terminal flags or third-party debloating tools.

- Open System Settings from the Apple menu or Dock.
- Click Siri in the sidebar.
- Click Turn Off Siri.
- When the confirmation appears, click Turn Off Siri again.
Apple describes Siri AI as a beta feature in macOS 27. Turning off this control stops access to Siri AI, but it does not automatically change every Apple Intelligence feature in every app.

If you still want the earlier Siri experience, first turn Siri off using the steps above. Return to System Settings > Siri, click Turn On Siri, and choose Use Siri Classic. This gives you the classic Siri option rather than Siri AI. You can change the selection later from the same Siri settings.

Disable summaries and other Apple Intelligence features
Apple places several AI-assisted functions in individual apps and system panels. Turn off each one you do not want; disabling Siri AI alone does not replace these controls.

Restrict Apple Intelligence with Screen Time
For a managed Mac—or for an additional restriction—open System Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Siri. Use the Siri controls there to restrict access to Apple Intelligence features. Screen Time restrictions are an Apple-supported control and can be changed later by an authorized user.

Turn off ChatGPT in Siri
ChatGPT is an optional Siri integration, so it has its own setting. Open System Settings > Siri > ChatGPT and turn off Use ChatGPT.

If the Mac is currently using Siri AI, open Extensions, select ChatGPT, and turn off Use Extension. Screen Time can also be used to block the ChatGPT extension. Disabling this extension is separate from disabling summaries or other Apple Intelligence features.

Who can use Siri AI in macOS 27?
Siri AI is not available on every Mac. Apple says macOS 27 support requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled Mac with an M1 chip or later, with Siri enabled and the device language set to a supported language. The September 14, 2026 macOS 27 release initially delivered Siri AI in English; Apple announced additional language support for October 2026.
Apple lists supported languages including English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, simplified and traditional Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Turkish and Vietnamese. Individual features can differ by language and region, so a switch may be absent or behave differently when a particular language, country or feature rollout is not eligible.

What these switches do—and do not do
- Scope: The Siri switch controls Siri AI; app settings control summaries, smart replies, voicemail suggestions and Journal prompts separately.
- Reversibility: Every setting listed here can be enabled again later.
- Supported methods: System Settings and Screen Time are Apple-supported. Terminal feature flags and third-party “debloating” scripts are not documented Apple procedures and are not required.
- Background processes: Apple’s documentation describes access controls, not guaranteed removal of every AI-related process from Activity Monitor. Do not treat a remaining process as proof that the setting failed.
Troubleshooting
The Siri AI option is missing
Check that the Mac has an M1-or-newer chip, is running macOS 27, and uses Siri with a supported device language. Feature availability can also depend on region and staged language rollout.
ChatGPT still appears
Check both locations: System Settings > Siri > ChatGPT > Use ChatGPT and, when Siri AI is active, Extensions > ChatGPT > Use Extension. A Screen Time restriction may be needed on a managed Mac.

Summaries continue after Siri is off
Review the separate controls in Messages, Mail and Notifications, then check Phone and Journal for their respective suggestion and prompt settings. Siri AI and these app-level features are independent switches.
