How to Turn Licensed Music Off in GTA 6 While Keeping Gameplay Audio

As of October 16, 2026, there is no Rockstar-published procedure proving that GTA VI can mute licensed radio songs independently while preserving gunshots, voices, and other gameplay audio. After the game is available, the first place to look is Pause Menu > Settings > Audio, following the layout Rockstar uses in GTAV. The result you want requires separate controls for radio or licensed music and for effects and dialogue; Rockstar has not confirmed those controls, their final names, or their behavior in GTA VI.

What is confirmed about GTA VI audio

Rockstar’s official GTA VI music page says the game has “the biggest and widest-ranging selection of in-game radio and podcasts yet.” That confirms a substantial radio system, but it does not document a switch for copyrighted songs, a radio-volume slider, or a streamer-style music mode.

Rockstar’s GTA VI support hub has not published an Audio-settings walkthrough. A current third-party guide also reports that the final audio menu and the relationship between radio music, mission score, dialogue, and effects are not confirmed. Consequently, instructions that present a specific GTA VI slider as fact are premature.

Rockstar’s official game page uses the wording “Plays best on PlayStation 5.” That is a platform statement, not an audio-control guide. No platform-specific GTA VI instructions are currently established in the published material described above.

#1 Best Overall
Grand Theft Auto VI - PlayStation 5 (Code in Box, Delivers 11/12/26, Playable 11/19/26)
  • This product contains a download code inside the box — no disc is included. Customer shipments will begin arriving November 12 for pre-load; game is playable starting November 19. Code can only be used by users holding an account for PlayStation registered to the US or Canada.
  • Pre-order to receive the Vintage Vice City Pack.
  • Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.

Where to look when the game is available

The following path is the most reasonable starting point, not a confirmed GTA VI interface. Rockstar documents the same general location for GTAV: audio options are reached from the Pause Menu through the Settings tab.

  1. Launch GTA VI and enter gameplay rather than changing options only from a console dashboard.
  2. Open the Pause Menu.
  3. Choose Settings, then open Audio. If Rockstar changes the wording, use the menu that contains volume and sound-mix controls.
  4. Read every audio control before changing anything. Look for independently named entries such as Radio, Licensed Music, Music, Score, Dialogue, Effects, or Master Volume.
  5. If a control explicitly identifies radio or licensed music, lower that control to zero and leave Effects, Dialogue, and other gameplay controls at their previous values.
  6. Return to a situation where a radio song, a spoken line, and an effect can each be heard. Test the mix instead of assuming that a label covers only one sound layer.
  7. Reopen the Audio page after testing to confirm that the value remains where you set it. The published material does not establish how GTA VI saves audio changes, so check the setting again after restarting the game or changing modes.

Do not treat the GTAV path as proof that GTA VI will use identical labels or controls. It is a practical place to begin until Rockstar publishes the final menu or a launch-day manual.

Which control would produce the mix you want?

Your target mix is “no licensed songs, but normal gameplay sound.” That is possible only when the game exposes an independent control for the licensed-radio layer. The table below shows how to interpret labels if they appear; the “certainty” column distinguishes a documented fact from a condition that must be verified in the shipped game.

Control shown in Audio What you should test Action for the requested mix Current certainty
Radio or Licensed Music Does changing it silence in-vehicle and ambient radio songs while voices and effects remain? Set it to zero; leave Effects and Dialogue unchanged. Rockstar has not confirmed that GTA VI will include this control.
Music Does it affect only radio, or also mission and ambient score? Use zero only after testing its scope; it may remove more than licensed songs. A final GTA VI “Music” label and scope are not published.
Score Does it govern mission or non-radio music separately from radio? Adjust it only if you also want to change the score; it is not automatically a radio control. Independent radio-versus-score behavior is unconfirmed.
Dialogue Are character voices and mission callouts still audible after music changes? Keep it at the desired level; do not lower it to remove songs. A dialogue channel is not confirmed for GTA VI.
Effects or SFX Are gunshots, vehicles, impacts, and environmental sounds preserved? Keep it at the desired level; this is the channel that must remain audible. An effects channel is not confirmed for GTA VI.
Master Volume Does it reduce every game sound together? Do not use it for selective music removal. Master-volume behavior is generally global, but GTA VI’s final menu is not documented.

How to set the mix in each possible menu design

If GTA VI has a Radio or Licensed Music slider

This is the cleanest implementation. Set the named radio or licensed-music control to zero, then leave Effects and Dialogue at the levels you need. Test while a radio station is active and while a character is speaking or a weapon is fired. If those non-music sounds remain, the game is providing the independent split you were looking for.

A radio control may not govern every musical layer. Mission cues or ambient score could be assigned to a separate channel, so a silent radio does not necessarily mean that all background music will disappear. Decide whether your goal is specifically to remove songs from stations or to remove every musical passage.

If the only music control is named Music

Do not assume that “Music” means licensed songs only. It could combine radio tracks with mission score, ambient music, or other musical material. Lower it gradually, test a radio song, then test a mission sequence and spoken dialogue. If the control also removes music that you wanted to keep, the shipped game does not provide the exact selective mix through that slider.

Gunshots and voices may continue if Effects and Dialogue are separate, but that must be observed in the game. A single Music control is not evidence that licensed songs can be isolated.

If GTA VI separates Score but not Radio

A Score slider would let you alter mission or ambient music, but it would not prove that licensed radio songs can be muted independently. Look for a second control that explicitly refers to Radio or Licensed Music. If it is absent, keep the score setting separate from the question you are trying to solve rather than using it as a substitute.

If there is no separate music control

If the Audio page offers only a global volume or controls that combine music with other sounds, GTA VI has no currently documented in-game method for the exact split. Lowering Master Volume will also reduce gameplay audio. Lowering a combined Music control may remove score as well as radio, and the available information does not justify promising that every effect or voice will remain unchanged.

External playback, a second device, or a hardware mixer cannot selectively remove the game’s own licensed tracks from its audio output. Those arrangements change what you hear outside the game; they do not create a missing in-game radio channel.

How to verify that the setting really works

Use a repeatable check rather than relying on a menu label. The aim is to identify which sound layers changed and which did not.

  1. Before changing anything, note the existing values for Music, Radio, Score, Dialogue, Effects, and Master Volume if those entries are present.
  2. Start a radio station or another clearly identifiable licensed track.
  3. With the music control you are testing at zero or a low value, listen for the song. If it is still audible, you changed the wrong channel or the game combines the track elsewhere.
  4. Trigger ordinary effects such as movement, a vehicle action, or a weapon sound. Confirm that the effects channel has not been reduced accidentally.
  5. Listen for a character conversation, mission instruction, or other voice line. Confirm that Dialogue has not been tied to the control you changed.
  6. Enter a mission or scene that contains non-radio music. This distinguishes a radio-only control from a broader Music control.
  7. Restore any value that changed unintentionally, then repeat the test after leaving and re-entering the Audio page.

This test cannot create a control that the game does not expose. It only tells you what the released menu actually does on your platform and version.

Common outcomes and what they mean

Radio is silent, but mission music remains

That result indicates that radio and score are being handled separately, at least in the situation you tested. Leave the radio value at zero and decide independently whether mission music is desirable.

All music is silent, but effects and voices remain

The game may be grouping radio and score under one Music control while keeping Effects and Dialogue separate. This preserves gameplay audio but does not meet a requirement to remove licensed songs while retaining other music.

Voices or gunshots became quiet too

You likely changed a combined control, a Master Volume value, or a channel that includes more than its label suggests. Return to the values you recorded, restore the affected channel, and make one change at a time.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The song continues at zero

Check whether the audio is coming from a different source, such as a Score or another music entry, and verify that the radio station is actually active. If no control identifies the source, the final game may not offer a selective mute.

The setting appears to reset

Reopen Pause Menu > Settings > Audio and check the value after restarting or switching modes. Because Rockstar has not published GTA VI’s save behavior for audio options, a reset should be reported through the game’s official support channel rather than “fixed” by changing unrelated volume controls.

What is still unknown

  • The final GTA VI Audio-menu labels and layout.
  • Whether licensed radio music has its own slider or toggle.
  • Whether mission and ambient score are separate from radio songs.
  • Whether Dialogue and Effects are independent channels on every supported platform.
  • Whether a setting is shared across story mode, other modes, profiles, or save files.
  • Whether Rockstar will add or rename audio controls in a later update.

These are product details that require Rockstar’s final documentation or direct testing of the released game. Earlier GTA titles provide a useful menu precedent, but they cannot establish GTA VI behavior.

Bottom line for players who need copyright-safe audio

Check Pause Menu > Settings > Audio first. Use a control explicitly labeled Radio or Licensed Music if GTA VI provides one, and verify the result with a song, a voice line, and an effect. If the game offers only a combined Music control or global volume, there is no documented proof that you can mute licensed tracks alone while preserving every gameplay sound. Wait for Rockstar’s final menu documentation or platform-specific instructions before promising that separation to viewers, stream audiences, or other players.
