To turn Adventure Sync on in Pokémon GO, go to Main Menu → Settings → General → Adventure Sync, tap the option, and approve the fitness-app access prompt. To turn it off, return to the same screen and uncheck Adventure Sync. If the feature is not counting your activity, the cause is usually location permission, the Apple Health or Google Fit connection, or a delay in syncing.
The steps below follow the Pokémon GO Help Center as checked in October 2026. Menu labels differ between app versions and phone operating systems, so if a name on your screen doesn’t match, look for the closest equivalent under Settings.

What Adventure Sync does
Adventure Sync records the distance you travel while Pokémon GO is closed, so the game can count that movement toward Buddy Candy and Egg progress. The Help Center also describes weekly activity reports and item rewards for weekly milestones. Niantic’s Help Center describes it this way: “Adventure Sync is an optional mode that will allow you to record your kilometers traveled even when the Pokémon GO app isn’t open.”

The original 2018 announcement from Pokémon GO described the same core purpose and weekly reporting, so the basic function has been stable for years even though menus have been reworded.

How to turn Adventure Sync on
- Open Pokémon GO and tap Main Menu.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap Adventure Sync. Follow any prompts to give Pokémon GO access to Apple Health on iOS or Google Fit on Android.
- Check that the Adventure Sync option now shows as enabled in the game.
The Help Center states that the feature needs location permission and a connection to Apple Health or Google Fit. If either is missing, the setting may appear on while nothing is recorded, so check both before assuming the feature is broken.
How to turn Adventure Sync off
- Open Pokémon GO and tap Main Menu.
- Tap Settings, then General.
- Uncheck Adventure Sync.
Turn it off in the game itself. On Android 10, Niantic’s troubleshooting article says that disabling Activity Recognition in the Android system settings alone does not fully turn the feature off. Use the in-game toggle as the control that matters.

Why Adventure Sync is not tracking your progress
Work through these checks in order. Most problems are resolved by the first three.

- Check location permission. Pokémon GO needs permission to access your location while the app is closed. Menu names differ by phone. The official troubleshooting page gives older example paths and advises choosing Always on iOS.
- Check the connected fitness source. In Apple Health, open Sources and confirm Pokémon GO is listed. In Google Fit, check the connected apps or devices and confirm Pokémon GO appears there.
- Confirm your phone is recording movement. The phone’s sensors need to be recording distance or steps for the fitness app to pass data along.
- Allow time. The troubleshooting page says updates can take several hours. Restarting Pokémon GO may help once the wait has passed.
- Review battery-saving modes. Battery-saving settings on the phone or the fitness app can interfere with sensors and syncing. Turning them off for these apps is the official suggestion.
One limit to keep in mind: activity you enter manually in Apple Health or Google Fit does not count toward Adventure Sync progress. Only movement recorded by the phone’s sensors does.
