You can’t turn a YouTube playlist directly into a live broadcast. To run gaming videos as a continuous YouTube Live rerun channel, play the recordings through an encoder or cloud service and send that live feed to a YouTube broadcast. First check your channel’s live-stream eligibility and the rights to every part of the recordings.
How a playlist rerun channel works
A playlist organizes videos; it does not transmit them as one live feed. YouTube’s live-stream model has two parts: an incoming audio-video stream from an encoder or streaming service, and a separate broadcast video that viewers watch. YouTube’s API documentation describes a 24/7 live feed as a use case, but the official material does not describe a direct playlist-to-live conversion or a one-click way to make a hosted YouTube playlist into a single live stream.
The practical setup is therefore: choose the recordings as a playback source, keep playback running continuously, feed it to an encoder or cloud service, and connect that feed to a live broadcast in YouTube Studio.
Check YouTube eligibility and prepare the broadcast
Before setting up playback, check YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility guidance. YouTube says the channel must be verified, must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the person streaming must be at least 16 years old. YouTube lists encoders as a streaming method and says they are commonly used for gameplay.

- Confirm the channel is eligible. Resolve any verification or live-stream restriction issue before building the rerun setup.
- Create the receiving live event in YouTube Studio. This broadcast is the viewer-facing video; it is distinct from the incoming stream carrying your gameplay recordings.
- Choose the playback source. For a local setup, use recorded files available to the playback computer. If you plan to use an online playlist or a service-hosted source, verify that your selected playback and streaming tool supports it; YouTube’s documentation does not establish that playlist compatibility.
- Connect an encoder or cloud service to the broadcast. Configure it to send the continuous audio-video output to the YouTube live event, following the current instructions for the chosen tool.
- Test privately or unlisted before going public. Google’s Live Streaming Guide recommends testing the full setup. For a rerun, check that playback continues across recordings, transitions and audio behave as intended, the connection stays stable, and viewers see an appropriate result if playback stops.
Run it locally with an encoder
A local encoder setup uses a computer to play your recorded gaming videos and send the resulting feed to YouTube. The computer, playback source, encoder, and internet connection must remain available for the duration of the rerun. YouTube confirms encoder use for gameplay, but its cited eligibility guidance does not specify a required computer, capture card, or performance level for replaying recorded footage.
- Make the recordings available to the playback computer. Keep the files accessible to the playback method you choose. Do not assume a YouTube-hosted playlist can be ingested as a live source; confirm that capability in the documentation for your selected software or service.
- Set up continuous playback. Arrange the recordings to play in the order you want and test what happens at the end of the list, between videos, and if a file cannot play. The exact playlist controls depend on the playback and encoder software you choose.
- Configure the encoder for the YouTube event. Use the event’s current connection instructions in YouTube Studio and verify that the incoming feed appears before making the broadcast public.
- Keep the entire chain running. The playback computer, encoder, local files, and internet connection are all part of the live path. Plan how you will detect and recover from a stopped playback process or dropped connection.
- Monitor the viewer-facing broadcast. Confirm the picture, audio, transitions, and live status from a separate viewer perspective during the private or unlisted test.
Because the source material is prerecorded, a high-end gaming PC, camera, microphone, or capture card is not automatically necessary; the specific requirements depend on the playback and encoder setup. Do not buy hardware on the assumption that YouTube mandates a particular configuration.

Clear rights before rerunning gaming videos
Having uploaded a recording or owning a game does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast every element in it. Check rights for the gameplay recording and for included music, cutscenes, overlays, and other third-party material.

YouTube says live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including another copyrighted live broadcast. If a match is detected, YouTube may replace the live picture with a placeholder and warn you; the stream can be interrupted or terminated if the material remains. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also terminate a stream. YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams also says that licensed third-party content may still require the rights owner to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist to avoid interruption.
Plan for the main failure points
- YouTube will not start the stream: Recheck channel verification, age eligibility, and whether the channel has had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. Confirm that the live event and encoder connection are configured for the same receiving broadcast.
- The feed starts but stops between videos: Test the playback sequence, end-of-list behavior, and file transitions during a private or unlisted run. The exact fix depends on the selected playback tool.
- The stream is interrupted after starting: Check YouTube Studio for a warning or copyright notice. Review the recording’s music and other third-party elements; if content is licensed, ask the rights owner whether your channel needs to be allowlisted in Content ID.
- The stream drops when the local setup is unattended: Check the computer, playback process, encoder, and internet connection as one chain. Decide in advance how you will notice and restart any component that stops.
- Viewers see an unexpected picture or hear missing audio: Recheck the playback output and encoder input during the test, including transitions and audio levels, before switching the event to public.
Advanced channel operations
The YouTube Live Streaming API distinguishes a broadcast, which is the video viewers watch, from a stream, which carries the audio-video feed to YouTube. Its documentation says a stream can be bound to up to three live broadcasts and describes a 24/7 feed that continues while another broadcast can be started from the same stream.
