The right way to put a Word document or PowerPoint online depends on what you mean by “webpage.” You can share the Office file for people to view, publish an eligible file as a clean web view, or rebuild its content as pages in a website. Only the last option creates a site with its own navigation and editable pages; a share link or web view is not a standalone HTML conversion.
Choose the result you actually need
| Route | What visitors get | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| OneDrive sharing | The original Word or PowerPoint file in an Office viewing workflow | Quickly sharing a document or presentation |
| SharePoint Publish to Web | A clean, view-only web presentation of an eligible Office file | Sharing a finalized file without its internal editing material |
| Save a slide as an image in Word, then save Word as HTML | A basic web page based on a slide image | A single visual slide or simple page |
| Rebuild content in a website builder | Website pages, navigation, and content you can maintain separately | A site with multiple pages, a custom identity, or ongoing updates |
These routes are not interchangeable converters. A file viewer preserves the Office workflow, while a website requires arranging the material as web pages.

How do I publish a PowerPoint online?
Share the presentation through OneDrive
Upload or save the presentation to OneDrive, then use its sharing controls to choose how recipients can access it. Microsoft documents saving a PowerPoint presentation to OneDrive and sharing it online. The recipient views a presentation; this does not convert the deck into a standalone website. Check the access setting before sending the link rather than assuming it is public. Microsoft’s OneDrive and SharePoint sharing guidance.
Word for the web is available without installing or buying Office to people who sign in or create an account. That can be useful for viewing or working with a Word file online, but it does not make the document a separate website. Microsoft 365 for the web.

Use SharePoint Publish to Web when available
Microsoft describes Publish to Web as a view-only link for a finalized document or presentation. The published view excludes comments, edits, version history, and speaker notes. Microsoft’s support documentation limits the feature to enterprise users and eligible Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for the web files stored on SharePoint. Microsoft’s Publish to Web guidance.
Availability can depend on your organization’s rollout and administration. A Microsoft product-manager announcement dated March 10, 2026, said the feature was available in Excel and PowerPoint for the web, with Word support coming soon at that time; check your tenant’s current menu and administrator settings rather than relying on that dated rollout status. Before publishing, review both the file and its access settings. A clean view is not a guarantee that the document is appropriate for public release.

How do I turn a Word document into a webpage?
Save the Word file as HTML
For a simple document, Word can save a file as a web page. The result is HTML, but it should not automatically be treated as a polished, responsive site: layout, links, and media may need attention, and the document does not gain site navigation just by being saved in a web format. Microsoft’s PowerPoint guidance also describes copying an individual slide into Word as an image, then saving the Word file as “Web Page” or “Web Page, Filtered.” Microsoft’s PowerPoint web-page guidance.

Can I convert PowerPoint to HTML?
Not directly in current versions of PowerPoint. Microsoft Support says, “In newer versions of PowerPoint, you can’t directly save a presentation as a webpage.” Its documented workaround is to copy an individual slide into Word as an image and save that Word file as a web page. That is a basic way to make a page from a slide, not a dependable method for converting an entire deck into accessible, responsive, editable website pages. Microsoft Support.
Can I make a website from a Word document?
Yes, but making a website means extracting and organizing the document’s content into pages in a website builder. This takes more work than sharing a file, but it gives you more control over page structure, navigation, and later edits.

“Cost” can include more than a monthly plan: account or user charges, hosting, a custom domain, taxes, and renewal rates may all matter. Sharing through an account you already use may avoid the work of building a site, but access still depends on the service’s sharing controls. A hosted website plan may bundle some features or a first-year domain without guaranteeing the same renewal total.
