To turn a webpage into a PNG, use your browser’s full-page screenshot command rather than a normal screen snip. In Microsoft Edge, open the page, press Ctrl+Shift+S, choose Capture full page, and save the image from the capture overlay. In Firefox, right-click the page, choose Take Screenshot, select Save full page, and download the resulting PNG. These methods capture content below the fold without manually scrolling.
Choose the right capture method
The best method depends on whether you need a one-off image, a repeatable command, or an automated service.

Save a complete webpage as PNG in Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage in Edge and wait for the visible content to finish loading.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows. On some Edge releases you can also open the browser menu and choose Screenshot.
- In the capture overlay, choose Capture full page. Edge describes this as capturing an entire webpage in one screenshot, including content beyond the screen.
- Review the generated image. Use the overlay’s save or download control and choose PNG if an output-format choice is shown.
- Open the saved file in an image viewer and check the top, bottom and any important interactive sections.
Edge’s Screenshot feature is designed to keep moving content such as videos, GIFs and web carousels active during capture. That can preserve animation state, but it also means the frame you get may differ from a later frame. Feature behavior can vary by device, market and Edge version, so the labels on your installation may not be identical.
When Edge captures more than you expected
A full-page image can be extremely tall. If you only need an article section, use a selected-area capture instead of full page, then save that selection as PNG. For a page with sticky headers, compare the repeated header areas: some layouts may render a fixed element at every scroll segment.

- Load the page in Firefox.
- Right-click anywhere on the page and select Take Screenshot. If the context-menu item is hidden, use Firefox’s page-actions or customization controls to access the screenshot tool.
- Choose Save full page. Firefox’s documented download is an image file with a
.pngextension. - Select Download, then open the file to verify that content below the visible browser window is present.
Firefox’s built-in route is useful when you want a clean PNG without installing an extension. It captures the rendered page, not the underlying HTML source, so fonts, colors and layout are represented as they appeared in the browser at capture time.

Use Firefox DevTools for repeatable captures
For a repeatable capture, Firefox provides a Web Console helper. Open DevTools with F12 or Ctrl+Shift+K, select the Web Console, and run:

The file is saved to the Downloads folder by default. Use a descriptive filename, such as pricing-page-2026-09-30.png, when creating a series of captures.
Make repeat captures consistent
- Set the same browser window size and zoom level before each run.
- Wait for fonts, images and charts to finish loading.
- Use a private window or a signed-in profile deliberately; account state can change the rendered page.
- Record the URL and capture time alongside the PNG when the image is evidence or documentation.
Capture a full-size PNG in Chrome
Chrome users commonly use DevTools’ command menu. Open DevTools, open the command menu, and run Capture full size screenshot. Chrome’s exact menu wording and keyboard shortcut can change, so check the command list in the version installed on your computer. If the command is unavailable, use a current Chrome DevTools workflow or Firefox/Edge’s built-in full-page tool.

Windows Snipping Tool, macOS screen capture, Linux desktop screenshot utilities and browser extension buttons generally capture the current viewport or a selected rectangle. They are excellent for a visible excerpt, but they do not automatically stitch all content below the fold into one PNG. A full-page command instructs the browser to render and combine the page’s scrollable content.

Dynamic pages, lazy loading and moving content
Full-page capture is a rendering task, so the result depends on what the page does while it is being rendered.
Lazy-loaded images
Some images load only after they approach the viewport. A capture tool may trigger those loads while moving through the page, but not every site implements lazy loading in a way the browser can complete. Scroll through the page once before capturing if lower images appear blank, then retry.
Animations and carousels
Videos, GIFs and carousels can change while the screenshot is assembled. Edge says its Screenshot feature keeps moving content active. If a precise frame matters, pause the media or capture at a controlled moment and document that choice.
Sticky elements and overlays
Cookie banners, newsletter prompts, chat widgets and sticky navigation can cover content or repeat in a tall image. Dismiss them before capturing when possible. If the overlay returns, try a private window, the site’s preference controls or a different browser profile.
Infinite scroll
An infinite-scroll page has no fixed end until more content is requested. A browser full-page command may capture only the content loaded at the moment of capture. Scroll to the desired depth first, allow new items to load, and then capture.

PNG versus PDF
Use PNG when you need a raster image for a slide, ticket, issue report, social post or visual comparison. Use PDF when you need a document intended for printing, selectable text or page-oriented archiving. In Edge, Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS opens the print interface; that workflow creates a PDF, not a single tall PNG. Converting a PDF afterward can split the page across several images or change layout, so start with a full-page screenshot when one PNG is the requirement.

Troubleshooting full-page PNG captures
The image stops at the visible screen
You used a viewport snip rather than a full-page command. Retry with Edge’s Capture full page, Firefox’s Save full page or Firefox’s :screenshot ... --fullpage.

The bottom of the page is blank
Wait for network activity and lazy-loaded images, scroll through the lower section once, then capture again. A script-driven page may require a longer delay or a completed interaction before its content exists.
A cookie banner or chat bubble covers the image
Dismiss the element before capture, change consent settings, or use a clean browser profile. For automated work, use a service that can remove known consent and chat overlays before rendering.
The capture is too tall to use
Capture a selected region, capture the relevant element by itself, or use PDF for paginated reading. A single PNG is not always the most practical representation of a very long document.

Check viewport width, zoom, device emulation, login state, geolocation, timezone, A/B-test assignment and animation timing. Fix those inputs before comparing images.

- Confirm the URL and account state.
- Wait for fonts, images and charts.
- Remove overlays and pause time-sensitive media when exact pixels matter.
- Use full-page mode, not a visible-area snip.
- Check the top, middle and bottom of the resulting PNG.
- Keep the original URL, browser and capture date with the file.
- For recurring jobs, use a scripted browser command or ScreenshotNeo and inspect its response status headers.

Can I turn a webpage into a PNG without scrolling manually?

Will a full-page PNG include content hidden behind a click?
Usually not unless the content is already rendered. Expand accordions, tabs or menus first, or use a capture workflow that can click an element before taking the image.
Is PNG better than JPEG for webpage screenshots?
PNG preserves sharp text and interface edges without lossy compression, so it is generally the safer choice for webpages. JPEG can produce smaller files when slight artifacts are acceptable.
