To turn a fiction podcast archive into an always-on YouTube live channel, send prepared episode audio and visuals to YouTube through a live encoder. Uploading a playlist by itself does not create a livestream. Choose a computer encoder, a cloud service, or dedicated hardware; clear the rights to everything in the feed; then launch it from YouTube Studio. Keep separate episode videos or podcast entries too, so people can find and replay a story from its beginning.
What an always-on podcast channel actually does
Think of the channel as an internet radio-style broadcast: an encoder sends a continuous program feed to YouTube, and listeners can tune in while it is running. The feed can rotate complete episodes or themed blocks with a visual such as show artwork, the current episode title, or a simple schedule. Make the sequence understandable to someone who arrives halfway through a story.

YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a stream URL and stream key. The encoder sends the prepared program to YouTube, where you check its preview and, when required, select Go live. YouTube documents software encoders, cloud services for prerecorded video, and hardware encoders as possible routes. See YouTube’s encoder setup and supported options.
Choose how to keep the feed running
The right setup depends on how much local equipment and monitoring you want to manage, the visual complexity of the program, and your budget. YouTube’s documentation identifies these approaches but does not provide a like-for-like cost or uptime comparison.

- Computer and software encoder: YouTube lists OBS as no-charge, open-source software. This lets you control playback and visuals locally, but the computer, encoder, and internet connection need to remain available for the feed to continue. The software listing is not a guarantee of 24/7 reliability.
- Cloud service listed by YouTube: YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming. Check with the vendor for current pricing, media limits, restart behavior, and service status before choosing it.
- Dedicated hardware: YouTube lists the AJA HELO Plus and describes its PlayToStream function for scheduling prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. Confirm the current feature and workflow with the manufacturer before buying.
Prepare the archive and clear broadcast rights
Before building the rotation, inventory the materials in every episode and confirm that your agreements allow YouTube distribution and continuous public performance in the territories you intend to reach. A production contract—not YouTube’s general guidance—determines what rights you actually hold.
- Check master audio, scripts, artwork, music, sound effects, inserted clips, and guest or performer agreements.
- Confirm that licenses cover the intended distribution and continuous broadcast, not merely production or limited use.
- If licensed material is registered in Content ID, ask its rights owner to add your channel to the Content ID allowlist before going live.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can replace the live image; continued use can lead to temporary interruption or termination. A license alone may not prevent interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel. Archived streams may also receive Content ID claims after the broadcast ends. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Build a listener-friendly live rotation
Choose episodes and sequence
Decide whether to rotate complete episodes, group them into themed blocks, or use a combination. Give the schedule a clear order and make the current episode identifiable on screen. A viewer who joins in the middle should be able to tell what they are hearing and where to find the beginning.

Create a visual that can remain on screen while the audio plays: for example, show artwork with an episode title or schedule. Keep it legible and consistent with the program. A visual frame is part of the feed sent by the encoder; the audio playlist alone is not the livestream.

Set up and launch the stream in YouTube Studio
- Enable live streaming ahead of launch. YouTube says first-time live streaming may take up to 24 hours to become available, so do not leave activation until the planned start.
- Create or schedule a stream in YouTube Studio. Use YouTube’s encoder workflow to obtain the stream URL and stream key for the broadcast.
- Connect the encoder. Enter the stream URL and key in your software, cloud service, or hardware encoder, then configure it to send the prepared audio-and-visual program.
- Start sending the feed and check the preview. For a scheduled stream, follow YouTube’s preview-then-go-live workflow and click Go live when ready. YouTube creates the live page when the encoder begins sending content.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send content to your stream.
Follow the current instructions in YouTube’s encoder guide, since the available Studio controls and workflow may change.
Keep episode-level replays alongside the live channel
A continuous stream is useful for casual listening, but viewers may arrive after an episode has started and want to begin at the beginning. Preserve the original files and publish episode-level videos or podcast entries as a separate archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its guidance does not promise an automatic archive for streams that exceed 12 hours. Do not rely on a long-running broadcast as the complete, easy-to-browse episode library.

When an RSS podcast feed may help
Where the feature is available, YouTube can use selected episodes from a podcast RSS feed to create videos with static show art and upload future episodes. This is an episode-delivery route, not a continuous live broadcast. YouTube says back-catalog episodes added through RSS do not notify subscribers, and published episode audio is not silently updated. Review regional availability, episode selection, re-upload steps, and branded-content instructions before using it. YouTube’s RSS instructions also say imported podcast content cannot contain advertisements; sponsorships, endorsements, and branded content must be disclosed through the relevant settings and comply with policy. Details are in YouTube’s RSS podcast guidance.

Assess monetization and content-policy risk
Running a feed does not automatically make it eligible for monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and assess whether a channel offers original, authentic material. Repetitive, mass-produced, or interchangeable content may be ineligible. The policy allows recurring characters when episodes have distinct storylines or focus, so a fiction series is not automatically disqualified simply because it has recurring characters or is rebroadcast. The substance of the episodes and the channel as a whole still matter; no general rule can establish whether a particular archive will be accepted.
YouTube’s policy clarification dated 2025-07-15 says repetitive or mass-produced material falls under its inauthentic-content policy. Its guidance identifies channel theme, high-watch-time videos, metadata, and the About section among the signals considered. Review the current YouTube channel monetization policies and make sure the channel accurately represents the stories and how the feed works.
Common launch problems and what to check
- Live streaming is not available: If this is the first time the channel is going live, activation may take up to 24 hours. Enable it before launch and allow time for access to become available.
- The live page is not receiving the program: Confirm the encoder is sending content and that its stream URL and key match the stream created in YouTube Studio.
- The scheduled stream is not live to viewers: Check the preview and complete the scheduled stream’s explicit Go live step.
- The picture is replaced or the broadcast is interrupted: YouTube may have detected third-party content. Review the material in the feed and, for licensed Content ID material, coordinate allowlisting with the rights owner.
- A long stream has no complete replay: YouTube’s automatic archive statement covers streams under 12 hours, not longer ones. Maintain original episode files and publish separate episode-level replays.
- The live archive receives a claim afterward: YouTube may apply Content ID claims to an archived stream after it ends. Review the claim and the relevant rights rather than assuming a live broadcast cannot be claimed.
