Try a 60 FPS target only if that computer stays close to 60 during combat and camera movement. If it repeatedly misses, test 30 FPS. When the Low preset still stutters, reduce Rendering Quality, Shadow Quality, Reflection Quality, and Special Effects Quality one at a time, retesting after every change. This method finds a stable profile for your hardware instead of promising one universal “best” preset.
A practical low-end profile
Open the Phone Menu, choose Settings, then Graphics. Set Graphics Quality to Low as the starting point. Keep the monitor at its native resolution and use full-screen mode for the first comparison, so you are measuring graphics settings rather than changing several variables at once.

|---|---|---|---|
| Graphics Quality | Low | Overall stability in a repeatable scene | Keep Low and tune individual options below |
| Frame-rate target | Try 60 FPS | Whether combat and camera turns remain near 60 | Try 30 FPS when 60 repeatedly drops |
| Rendering Quality | Leave at the Low-preset value initially | Frame stability versus image sharpness | Lower one step, or restore it if the image becomes too blurry |
| Shadow Quality | Lower only after the baseline test | Stutter during movement and combat | Test a lower value by itself |
| Reflection Quality | Lower only after the baseline test | Performance in reflective areas | Test a lower value by itself |
| Special Effects Quality | Lower only after the baseline test | Heavy effects during battles | Test a lower value by itself |
| Character Quality and Texture Quality | Keep higher only when memory headroom allows | Clarity and stability together | Lower them if the test is unstable or memory is constrained |
| V-Sync | Keep the current value for the baseline | Visible tearing, steadiness, and input delay | Compare on and off using the same camera turn |
The table is a starting profile, not a benchmark result. The effect of each control depends on the particular processor, graphics chip, driver, memory configuration, thermals, and game version.

- Enter Phone Menu > Settings > Graphics.
- Choose Graphics Quality: Low.
- Use the monitor’s native resolution and full-screen display for the first run.
- Choose a battle or map route that regularly stutters. Use the same characters, route, camera turns, and actions each time.
- Play that sequence long enough to include the problem area. A five-minute run is useful when checking whether heat causes performance to deteriorate.
- Record the frame-rate target, whether the scene feels smooth, image clarity, visible tearing, and whether the computer becomes hotter or louder.
Do not judge a change from a quiet menu or an empty room. A setting that looks fine while standing still can fail when several effects, enemies, and camera movements occur together. The purpose of the route is not to produce a laboratory benchmark; it is to make each comparison fair enough that a difference is meaningful on your own PC.
Keep a simple comparison log
Write down the original value before changing any control. For each run, note the FPS target, the setting changed, whether the troublesome moment still stuttered, and how much clarity was lost. Also note tearing, input response, and whether the computer became hotter or louder. This prevents a common mistake: keeping a change because a later run felt better even though several settings were altered at once.
Use the same comparison axes every time. Smoothness and stability come first: does the selected target hold through the same battle and camera movement? Next check image clarity, especially after changing Rendering Quality. For V-Sync, compare tearing against input delay rather than assuming either state is universally better. Finally, check temperature over time, because a five-minute run can expose a slowdown that a one-minute test misses.
If a change helps one location but harms another, keep the previous value and test again in the route that matters most to you. There is no requirement to force every control to its lowest setting when one targeted change solves the actual problem.
Choose a frame-rate target the PC can sustain
Frame rate is a stability decision, not simply a maximum number. Try 60 FPS first if it is available in the graphics menu. During the same battle and camera route, check whether it stays close to 60 rather than briefly touching 60 and then falling during effects or traversal.
If 60 repeatedly falls short, test 30 FPS. A consistent 30 can feel better than a fluctuating result that alternates between a high peak and severe dips. Use only the frame-rate choices exposed by the game; forcing an undocumented limit through registry edits is not a routine fix and can create new troubleshooting variables.
Compare targets using the same scene. Judge frame consistency first, then image quality. If both 30 and 60 produce similar drops, the limiting factor may be rendering load, an active-GPU problem, heat, a driver issue, or hardware below the game’s current needs rather than the target itself. A target that is technically selectable but repeatedly missed is not a useful target for that computer.

Lower the expensive options in a controlled order
Rendering Quality
When the Low preset still stutters, reduce Rendering Quality by one step and repeat the baseline route. This can improve performance, but it also changes internal image detail and may make text, edges, and distant objects look soft. If the picture becomes unacceptably blurry, restore the previous Rendering Quality and test the other controls instead. Do not keep lowering it simply because it is the first option in the list.
Shadow Quality
Shadows add work around characters, objects, and lights. Lower Shadow Quality by itself, rerun the same combat and movement sequence, and compare smoothness with the unchanged baseline. Keep the lower value only if it improves the scene you actually care about; a setting that helps an outdoor route may make little difference in a low-shadow area.
Reflection Quality
Reflections can matter most in scenes containing reflective surfaces. Test Reflection Quality separately so you can see whether it affects the troublesome route. If there is no measurable or perceptible improvement, restore it and spend the quality loss elsewhere.
Special Effects Quality
Combat effects can create short, heavy spikes. Lower Special Effects Quality and repeat a battle with the same party and actions. This is particularly useful when ordinary traversal is smooth but attacks, ultimates, or crowded encounters cause the dips.

Character Quality and Texture Quality
The guide’s recommendation is conditional: keep Character Quality and Texture Quality higher only when the computer has enough graphics memory and the repeatable test remains stable. If raising either option introduces hitching, long pauses while assets load, or instability, return it to the lower value. Texture quality can preserve visual detail, but memory pressure can outweigh that benefit on a low-end graphics chip.

Decide whether V-Sync is helping
V-Sync addresses a specific symptom: visible tearing when the display shows parts of multiple frames. Compare it with the same camera turn and all other settings unchanged.
- Keep V-Sync enabled if it removes obvious tearing and movement feels steadier.
- Restore the previous value if it adds noticeable input delay or does not address the problem.
- Do not use V-Sync as a substitute for lowering a setting that is actually causing frame-time spikes.
Make the comparison while moving the camera, not while looking at a static menu. That is where tearing and delay are easiest to notice. If neither state addresses the stutter in your repeatable battle, return to the quality controls rather than changing V-Sync repeatedly.
Use temperature and GPU checks before assuming the preset is wrong
Look for heat-related degradation
If the game starts smoothly and becomes slower after several minutes, run the same test for about five minutes while observing whether performance progressively worsens. Clear blocked vents and make sure the computer can exhaust heat. A performance decline that appears only after the system warms up points to a thermal problem or power-management behavior, not necessarily to an incorrect graphics value.
Recommended Free Tools
Do not obstruct laptop intake or exhaust openings. If cleaning and airflow changes do not alter the pattern, continue with driver and active-GPU checks rather than repeatedly lowering every setting. Lower quality cannot correct heat that is causing the computer to reduce its performance.
Verify which GPU is being used
On Windows, open Task Manager and identify the GPU handling the game while it is running. A system with both integrated and discrete graphics can launch a game on the less capable adapter. Check the active adapter during the repeatable route, not only when the game is closed. This check is especially important when changing settings produces little or no difference.
Update the active GPU driver
Install a current driver from the graphics-chip manufacturer when the installed driver is outdated. HoYoverse’s Help Center article Why is Honkai: Star Rail crashing or freezing?, updated September 30, 2025, explicitly instructs players to update graphics-card drivers to the latest version. Restart Windows after the installation and repeat the same test before changing more settings.
What to do when the game crashes or freezes
A crash is not the same problem as a low but stable frame rate. Use the official recovery sequence before trying extreme quality reductions:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- At the game’s login screen, choose the Update option to re-verify downloaded resources.
- Update the active GPU driver.
- Check whether the computer meets the game’s published minimum requirements, keeping in mind that the available figures are historical (see the next section).
- If the problem continues, collect the device details and evidence requested by HoYoverse Support. The support article identifies the relevant log and dump-file locations; follow its current instructions rather than guessing at file paths.
Record when the freeze occurs, whether it follows a particular battle or loading screen, and whether it appears only after the computer heats up. Those details help separate resource corruption, driver faults, thermal behavior, and insufficient hardware. Do not treat a crash as proof that a particular individual setting is too high.
How much confidence to place in the published PC requirements
HoYoverse’s PC Version Launcher FAQ, dated April 23, 2023, lists these configurations:
| FAQ category | Processor | Memory | Graphics | Operating system | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum (published in 2023) | Intel Core i3 | 6 GB RAM | Discrete Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 or higher | Windows 7 64-bit or higher | At least 20 GB reserved |
| Recommended (published in 2023) | Intel Core i7 | 8 GB RAM | Discrete Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 or higher | Windows 10 64-bit or higher | At least 20 GB |
These are figures from a 2023 launcher FAQ, not verified current-version PC requirements. They should not be used to promise that a present-day system will run the game, nor should the storage number be treated as a guaranteed current installation size. Check the current launcher or official support information for the version you are installing.
The table is useful as historical context, not as a buying checklist. A PC that matches an old minimum can still struggle with a newer game build, while a system with similar nominal parts can behave differently because of cooling, drivers, memory availability, or the active graphics adapter. Compare your exact hardware with current official information before purchasing a GPU, RAM kit, SSD, cooling pad, or replacement computer.
DLSS: why it is not a low-end recommendation
HoYoverse’s Version 3.0 “Paean of Era Nova” announcement, dated January 15, 2025, says PC players with Nvidia RTX 20-series graphics cards and newer can enable DLSS 2 in Graphics Settings. That is a dated feature announcement and a hardware eligibility note. It does not establish a need to buy an RTX card, a particular frame-rate gain, or a best setting for a low-end computer. If the hardware already supports the option, compare it in the same repeatable scene; otherwise, use the ordinary quality controls described above.

A decision path for common symptoms
| Symptom in the repeatable test | First check | Evidence-based adjustment |
|---|---|---|
| 60 FPS drops repeatedly during combat | Whether 30 FPS remains stable | Test 30 FPS; then lower one costly quality option at a time |
| Stutter remains on the Low preset | Rendering Quality, then shadows, reflections, and effects individually | Lower one step, retest, and keep only changes that help |
| Image becomes too soft | Whether Rendering Quality caused the loss of clarity | Restore Rendering Quality and test another option |
| Tearing during camera movement | V-Sync on versus off with identical settings | Keep the value that removes tearing without unacceptable delay |
| Performance worsens after several minutes | Five-minute run, vents, and temperature behavior | Clear blocked airflow and investigate thermal behavior |

| Crashes or freezes | Resource integrity and driver state | Use the login-screen Update option, update the driver, check requirements, then submit requested logs and device details |
What this tuning method can and cannot tell you
This process can identify a stable compromise among smoothness, clarity, tearing, and temperature on one computer. It cannot produce a universal profile for every low-end PC. Two systems with the same nominal graphics setting can behave differently because of cooling, memory capacity, driver versions, background load, display resolution, and the game build.
No attributable benchmark establishes a fixed FPS improvement for the Low preset, a particular Rendering Quality step, V-Sync, or any other option in this guide. Treat every adjustment as an A/B comparison on your own repeatable route, and keep a note of the previous value so you can undo a change that improves one scene but harms another. The absence of a guaranteed number is useful: it keeps the goal focused on repeatable stability rather than a peak FPS screenshot.
A compact repeatable checklist
- Open Phone Menu > Settings > Graphics.
- Set Graphics Quality to Low.
- Use native resolution and full-screen for the baseline.
- Repeat the same battle or map route.
- Try 60 FPS only if it stays near 60; test 30 FPS when it does not.
- When Low still stutters, lower Rendering Quality one step and retest.
- If necessary, test Shadow Quality, Reflection Quality, and Special Effects Quality separately.
- Restore Rendering Quality if the image is too blurry.
- Keep Character Quality and Texture Quality higher only when memory and stability allow.
- Compare V-Sync only against tearing or steadiness, using the same camera turn.
- Run a five-minute check for heat-related slowdown, clear blocked vents, and verify the active GPU in Task Manager.
- Install the current driver from the GPU maker when the driver is outdated.
- For crashes or freezes, re-verify resources from the login-screen Update option and follow HoYoverse Support’s current evidence and log instructions.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best first setting for a low-end PC?
Set Graphics Quality to Low in Phone Menu > Settings > Graphics. Keep native resolution and full-screen for the first comparison, then test the same battle or map route before changing individual controls.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Should I use 60 FPS or 30 FPS?
Try 60 FPS only when it stays close to 60 during combat and camera movement. If it repeatedly falls short, test 30 FPS and keep the target that remains steadier in the same scene.
Which settings should I lower after choosing Low?
Lower Rendering Quality one step and retest first. If the image becomes too blurry, restore it and test Shadow Quality, Reflection Quality, and Special Effects Quality separately.
Why does the game still stutter on Low?
Low is a starting preset, not a guarantee. Check each costly option one at a time, verify which GPU is active in Windows Task Manager, test for heat-related slowdown over about five minutes, and update an outdated graphics driver.
Should V-Sync be on or off?
Compare both states with every other setting unchanged and the same camera turn. Keep V-Sync if it removes visible tearing and movement feels steadier; restore the previous value if it adds noticeable input delay or does not address the problem.
Can I keep Character Quality and Texture Quality higher?
Only when the PC has enough graphics memory and the repeatable test remains stable. Lower either option if it causes hitching, asset-loading pauses, or instability.
What should I do if Honkai: Star Rail crashes or freezes?
At the login screen, use Update to re-verify downloaded resources, update the active GPU driver, and check the published requirements. If the issue continues, follow HoYoverse Support’s current instructions for device details, logs, and dump files.
Are the published minimum requirements still current?
HoYoverse’s April 23, 2023 PC Version Launcher FAQ lists an Intel Core i3, 6 GB RAM, GTX 650, Windows 7 64-bit, and 20 GB for minimum use, with higher recommended specifications. Those figures are historical and should not guarantee performance in the current version.
Does DLSS make an RTX purchase necessary?
No. HoYoverse’s January 15, 2025 Version 3.0 announcement says RTX 20-series and newer cards can enable DLSS 2, but it does not establish a required purchase or a guaranteed FPS gain. If the option already exists, compare it in the same test route.
The Bottom Line
Use Low as the starting point, test one repeatable scene, and choose the frame-rate target your PC can actually sustain. Lower Rendering Quality, shadows, reflections, or effects one at a time; preserve clarity where possible; and check V-Sync, heat, the active GPU, drivers, and resource integrity before assuming new hardware is required.
