If Wi-Fi or mobile service stopped working after a Galaxy update, treat the timing as a clue—not proof that the update caused it. First identify whether the problem is Wi-Fi, mobile data or cellular signal, then test one change at a time. Samsung lists settings, saved network information, downloaded apps, routers and mobile-network configuration among possible causes; menu names vary by model, software version, carrier and region.
Identify what is failing
Pin down the symptom before changing settings. Is the Galaxy unable to find a Wi-Fi network, unable to join it, connected to Wi-Fi without internet, experiencing slow mobile data, or showing weak or no cellular signal? Also check whether other devices can use the same Wi-Fi network. If several devices fail, the router or internet service is more likely to be involved than a setting on one phone.

- One Galaxy cannot use Wi-Fi: start with the phone’s Wi-Fi settings and saved network.
- Several devices cannot use the same Wi-Fi: check the router and contact the internet provider if needed.
- Wi-Fi works but mobile data or cellular signal does not: check mobile-data and carrier-network settings.
- Both types of connection fail: work through the relevant checks separately rather than assuming one cause.
Restart the Galaxy and check for software updates
- Restart the phone, then test the connection again.
- If Wi-Fi is still unavailable, open Settings > Software update > Check for updates. The wording or path may differ on your device.
Samsung says a software update may also be installed using Smart Switch on a PC. This is a troubleshooting option, not a guarantee that another update will fix the connection. If downloading an update over mobile data, check your allowance first: Samsung warns that charges may apply if the download exceeds it.

Troubleshoot Wi-Fi
Reconnect to the saved network
Confirm Wi-Fi is on and try joining the network again. If the phone has retained incorrect or outdated network details, forget the network and reconnect, entering its password carefully; passwords are case-sensitive. Samsung’s current US guidance says, “If Wi-Fi still does not connect after reconnecting the network, try resetting the network settings.” Before using a reset, check its scope in the section below.

Compare another device on the same network
Try another phone, tablet or computer on the same Wi-Fi. If it also cannot find or use the network, check that the router is powered on, has an internet connection and is running current firmware. Restart it by unplugging and reconnecting its power, or through its settings. If other devices remain affected, contact the router manufacturer or internet provider; a phone reset is unlikely to fix a network-wide outage.
Test in Safe mode
Safe mode can help identify whether a downloaded app is interfering with Wi-Fi. Start the Galaxy in Safe mode using the instructions applicable to your model and test the connection. If Wi-Fi works there, Samsung says a recently installed third-party app may be responsible. Remove recently installed apps you do not need one at a time, testing after each removal. Restart the phone to exit Safe mode.

Troubleshoot mobile data and cellular service
Check mobile data and network selection
Confirm mobile data is enabled and the expected SIM and mobile-network mode are selected. Samsung’s India guidance includes setting network mode to automatic. Labels and available choices depend on the device and carrier build.
Restore the APN settings if mobile data will not connect
An incorrect access point name (APN) can prevent mobile-network access. Samsung’s US instructions give this route: Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Access Point Names > More options > Reset to default. Follow the labels shown on your own phone and carrier software, then test mobile data again.

Ask the carrier about service or provisioning
Persistent mobile-data, call, text or signal trouble may involve coverage or carrier provisioning rather than Wi-Fi settings. Contact your carrier if the phone still cannot use mobile service after the checks above. Samsung UK notes that after changing carriers while keeping the same phone, the current provider may need to reset the device.
Choose the reset that matches the problem
Samsung’s US instructions distinguish Reset mobile network settings for mobile-connection issues from Reset Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings for Wi-Fi or Bluetooth issues. Depending on model and regional software, the phone may instead offer a broader Reset network settings option. Samsung UK says this can reset Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and other network settings.

Read the confirmation notice on your phone before proceeding: the affected settings vary, and you may need to reconnect to Wi-Fi networks or restore other network connections afterward. Use the narrowest applicable option the phone provides, and test again before making another change.
When to contact support—and when to consider a factory reset
- Device-specific issue: contact Samsung through Samsung Members support or an authorized support route.
- Mobile data, calls, texts or cellular signal: contact the carrier about coverage or provisioning.
- Several devices affected by the same Wi-Fi: contact the router manufacturer or internet provider.
Keep a factory data reset as a late step because it erases personal data. Verify that your important data is backed up before proceeding. Samsung warns that a factory reset is irreversible and may not permanently resolve a problem caused by an app that is awaiting a future update.

Samsung’s troubleshooting pages are published for different regions and may use different menu labels. Its current US Wi-Fi page, updated in September 2026, also cautions that “Menu names, settings, and screen layouts may vary depending on the model and software version.” Use the wording displayed on your phone and the guidance for your region.
