Why is my Samsung Galaxy charging slowly?
Slow charging can result from an incompatible or damaged adapter or cable, a loose connection, heat, heavy phone use, disabled fast charging, Battery protection, debris, or moisture in the charging port. Charging from a computer USB port may also be slower than charging from a wall adapter. Run a simple charging test
- Reconnect the cable: Unplug it, then reconnect it securely at the phone and adapter. Check whether the connection feels loose or charging starts and stops when the cable is still.
- Check the accessories: Look for fraying, bent connectors, cracks, or other visible damage. If available, test with a known-compatible Samsung adapter and cable that work properly with your model.
- Use a wall adapter: A computer’s USB port may provide slower charging than a power adapter. For a useful comparison, keep the phone connected to the wall adapter throughout the test.
- Reduce power use: Close demanding apps and avoid gaming, video, or other heavy use while charging. These activities consume power and can add heat, making it harder to tell how quickly the phone itself is charging.

If the phone feels unusually warm, disconnect it if needed, close demanding apps, and let it return to a comfortable temperature before charging again. Put it in a room-temperature location, away from direct sunlight or other heat sources. Samsung says very high or low device or ambient temperatures can slow charging; it does not specify a fixed cooling time, so wait until the phone is no longer unusually warm rather than relying on a timer (Samsung UK charging tips).

Check Fast charging and Battery protection
Confirm Fast charging is enabled
On supported models, open Settings > Battery > Charging settings and check that Fast charging is enabled. The labels and path may differ by model and software version. Samsung notes that on the Galaxy S23 series and later, Fast charging and Super fast charging options are combined under one Fast charging setting. Fast charging may not work when the phone is connected to a PC or standard USB device (Samsung U.S. troubleshooting guidance; Samsung U.S. fast-charging guidance).
Understand Battery protection
Battery protection settings can stop charging early or limit the maximum charge, depending on the selected option. That behavior is a battery-care feature, not necessarily a charging fault. If you need a full charge, review the option in your phone’s Battery settings and adjust it if appropriate; menu names and available choices can vary.

Inspect the port and respond safely to moisture
Look for visible debris or damage
Turn the phone off and use a flashlight to inspect the charging port. If you see loose debris, Samsung advises removing it carefully without using metal objects or liquids. Do not put a pin, sharp tool, or cleaner into the port. If the port looks damaged or corroded, skip home repair and arrange an inspection (Samsung U.S. troubleshooting guidance).

Unplug the charger and wait until the port is completely dry before attempting wired charging. Samsung’s U.S. guidance recommends gently shaking the device, wiping it with a soft, clean cloth, and leaving it in a well-ventilated area to dry using cool air. Do not use heat or insert anything into the port. A water-resistant phone still needs a dry charging port: charging while moisture is present can corrode or damage it (Samsung U.S. troubleshooting guidance; Samsung UK charging tips).

Match the charger and cable to your Galaxy model
Fast charging depends on the phone, its settings, the adapter, and the cable working together. A higher-wattage adapter alone does not guarantee a faster charge: the phone must support the charging tier, and the cable and adapter must be suitable for it. Samsung lists these as examples of accessory requirements, not universal compatibility guarantees (Samsung U.S. fast-charging guidance):

Run Samsung Members diagnostics or arrange service
If the basic checks do not solve the problem, Samsung Members may let you test cable charging:

- Open Samsung Members.
- Tap Support and start the diagnostics flow.
- Select Cable charging and follow the prompts.
If the phone still charges poorly with a known-compatible setup, or you notice visible port damage, corrosion, or unusual heat near the port, contact Samsung support or an authorized service center rather than trying a repair at home. Samsung also recommends service-center inspection when charging problems persist or battery use has dropped significantly (Samsung U.S. fast-charging guidance; Samsung U.S. troubleshooting guidance).
