When PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS will not connect, first determine whether the game service is unavailable or your PC, home network, or internet provider is interrupting the connection. Check PUBG’s live status and maintenance notices, close bandwidth-heavy programs, restart your equipment, test Ethernet instead of Wi‑Fi, then examine security software and the wider network. Change one thing at a time and record what you changed.
This sequence is deliberately low risk. A green status page does not rule out a regional outage, a bad route between your ISP and the game, or a local fault. PUBG Support lists maintenance, updates, competing network traffic, firewall or antivirus interference, wireless interference, ISP problems, router settings, and DNS issues as possibilities—not diagnoses that can be identified from one symptom alone.

Start by identifying the kind of failure
Connection trouble is different from low frame rate. A game can render at a high or low FPS while the network is healthy; conversely, packet loss or latency can make players and objects jump even when FPS is stable. Keep this guide focused on messages such as “Cannot connect to the game,” “Unable to connect to server,” connection timeouts, mid-match disconnects, and unstable ping.
Before changing settings, note what happens and when:
#1 Best Overall
- 40 Gbps 2000 Mhz High Speed: The Cat 8 ethernet cable support max. 40 Gbps data transfer and 2000 MHz Brandwith, ideal for gaming and streaming, greatly improving upload and download speed, sound, image and resolution quality
- Excellent Anti-interference: The ethernet cable comes with 4 shielded foiled twisted pairs (F/FTP), pure copper core and gold-plated RJ45 connector, reducing interference, noise and crosstalk, making network speed faster and more stable

- Wide Compatibility: With the RJ45 Connector, network cable can be perfectly compatible with computers, laptops, modems, routers, PS5, X-Box and other networking devices. It can also be fully backward compatible with Cat7, Cat6e, Cat6, Cat5e, Cat5
- Does the failure occur at launch, while joining a match, or after you have been playing?
- Does every online application fail, or only PUBG?
- Is the problem constant, or does it appear at particular times?
- Do you see an exact error message, a timeout, a return to the lobby, or visible packet loss?
These observations do not prove a cause, but they help you choose the next check and give PUBG Support useful evidence.
1. Check PUBG’s service status and maintenance notices
Use the official status page first
Open the PUBG Developer Portal status page before changing Windows or router settings. It lists services including Steam and shows a live operational state. The page is a snapshot, so refresh it during the incident rather than treating one visit as a permanent result.
When it was viewed on October 13, 2026, Steam and the listed platform services were marked Operational. That observation cannot establish that every PUBG region, match server, or ISP route was reachable, and it is not a current guarantee. A green result can coexist with a regional problem, a route failure between your provider and PUBG, or a fault on your own network.
Look for maintenance and update timing
PUBG Support says updates and routine maintenance can coincide with connection failures. Check current notices and retry after the stated maintenance window. If many players report the same failure at the same time, wait for an official update before making disruptive local changes. Do not assume that a status page showing green disproves an outage; use it as one piece of evidence.
2. Stop other programs from consuming the connection
PUBG Support identifies network-hogging programs as a possible reason for a poor game network status. Pause downloads, cloud synchronization, video streaming, browser uploads, game updates, and other applications that can consume substantial bandwidth. If another person or device is saturating the home connection, pause that activity temporarily as well.

- The unique flat cable shape allows for a cleaner and safer installation. You can easily and seamlessly make the cable run along walls, follow edges & corners or even make it completely invisible by sliding it under a carpet.
Retest before making permanent changes
- Close or pause the largest known traffic sources on the PC.
- Ask other users to pause heavy downloads or uploads for one test.
- Launch PUBG and repeat the action that previously failed.
- Record whether the result changed, including the time and exact symptom.
If the game works only while competing traffic is stopped, the connection may be hitting an available-bandwidth or bufferbloat limit. Resume programs one at a time later to identify the trigger. Do not conclude that PUBG itself is faulty merely because the game is the application where the congestion becomes visible.
3. Restart the PC and router, then test a wired connection
Perform a clean restart
PUBG’s connectivity guidance recommends restarting both the computer and router. Close PUBG, shut down the PC normally, power-cycle the router according to its manufacturer instructions, wait for its internet indicators to settle, and then start the PC and game again. A restart clears temporary state; it does not repair an ISP outage or a persistent configuration error.
Compare Wi‑Fi with Ethernet
Wireless connections are more exposed to distance, walls, competing networks, and other environmental interference. PUBG Support recommends trying a wired connection to check whether that interference is contributing to ping variation or packet loss. An Ethernet cable is useful here because it enables a controlled comparison; it is not a universal cure for disconnects.
- Connect the PC directly to the router with an Ethernet cable.
- Disable Wi‑Fi or ensure the PC is using the wired adapter for the test.
- Repeat the same lobby or match action that failed over wireless.
- Compare disconnects, timeout messages, and ping stability rather than judging only by one successful match.
If Ethernet is stable while Wi‑Fi is not, investigate wireless placement, interference, and router configuration. If both behave the same way, the fault may be upstream of Wi‑Fi. If the PC lacks an Ethernet port, determine whether an appropriate USB-to-Ethernet adapter is required before attempting this comparison; PUBG’s guide recommends the wired test but does not specifically endorse any adapter.
4. Check firewall and antivirus interference safely
PUBG Support lists firewall or antivirus interference as another possible cause of a blocked connection. Security software can block a newly updated executable or treat a game process differently after an update.

Use disabling only as a brief diagnostic
Do not leave protection disabled while playing or browsing. If your security product provides a pause or test mode, use it only long enough to make one controlled connection attempt, then restore protection immediately. A successful test indicates that a rule may be involved; it does not mean the safest solution is to run without a firewall or antivirus.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCorrect a specific rule instead
If the test points to security software, use that product’s documented procedure to allow the PUBG game and launcher components through the firewall. Keep the exception as narrow as the vendor permits and verify that it applies to the correct network profile. Re-enable all protection and retest. PUBG’s older article, “Unable to connect to server. The firewall may also block the connection,” was updated May 18, 2020; its broad stop and reset commands should not be treated as routine first steps.
5. Check the ISP and home network
Confirm the provider’s service
PUBG’s connectivity checklist advises checking your internet service provider’s status. Look for a local outage, maintenance notice, account issue, or known disruption affecting your area. If other devices lose internet access at the same time as PUBG, that evidence points toward the home connection or ISP rather than the game client.
Inspect router firmware and basic state
Check whether the router reports available firmware updates and apply them using the manufacturer’s instructions, preferably during a period when the connection is not needed. Avoid changing several advanced options at once. Write down the original value before changing any setting so you can reverse the test.
Try an alternate connection
A temporary alternate connection, such as a phone hotspot where permitted by your plan, can help separate the PC and game from the usual ISP path. Use it only for a short test because mobile data may have different latency, data limits, or network policies. If PUBG connects over the alternate path but not over the normal one, provide both results to your ISP and PUBG Support; the comparison does not identify which provider or route is responsible by itself.

Investigate DNS, UPnP, and third-party networking software
PUBG’s guide includes DNS flushing, UPnP, and third-party networking software such as VPNs among items to investigate. Treat each as a controlled diagnostic:
- Flush the computer’s DNS cache using the operating system’s supported network tools, then retry.
- If UPnP is already enabled or disabled, record that state before testing the alternative; change only one router option at a time.
- Temporarily stop third-party network-management or tunneling software for one test, then restore it. A change in behavior shows that the software or route deserves further investigation, not that every VPN or utility is harmful.
Do not disable the router firewall as a standard fix. PUBG’s checklist explicitly labels that recommendation “NOT RECOMMEND.” Port forwarding, DNS changes, UPnP changes, or a new route should be considered only after the simpler checks and only when you can restore the original configuration.
6. Match the symptom to the next diagnostic
The phrases below are common descriptions, not separate diagnoses. PUBG’s official support articles use titles such as “Cannot connect to the game” and “Unable to connect to server,” while players may describe the same event in different words.
| What you see | Prioritize these checks | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Cannot connect at launch or while joining | Status and maintenance; competing bandwidth; firewall or antivirus; ISP and router | Both service availability and a local block can prevent the initial session. |
| Unable to connect to server | Security rules; router and ISP status; alternate connection | A blocked process or an unreachable route can produce the same wording. |
| Repeated disconnects during matches | Wired-versus-Wi‑Fi test; bandwidth use; router firmware; ISP stability | Interference, congestion, or an unstable upstream link can interrupt an established session. |
| Connection timeout | Official status; maintenance timing; DNS and route comparison | A timeout can occur during a service event or while your connection cannot reach the destination. |
| Lag, packet loss, or variable ping | Ethernet comparison; competing traffic; wireless interference; ISP path | Latency and packet loss are network symptoms, not evidence of low FPS. |
Run the highest-priority check that you have not already performed, then retest under comparable conditions. Avoid changing firewall, DNS, router, and game settings simultaneously; doing so removes the information that would identify the responsible layer.
7. Keep a troubleshooting record
A short log prevents circular troubleshooting and makes escalation faster. For each attempt, note:

- The exact error text and whether the game disconnected, timed out, or returned to the lobby.
- Whether the status page showed an incident or maintenance notice.
- Which programs were closed and whether the PC used Wi‑Fi or Ethernet.
- Any router, DNS, UPnP, security, or alternate-connection test and its result.
This record lets you undo changes and shows whether the problem is reproducible or intermittent.
8. Escalate to PUBG Support with useful evidence
If the problem continues after the checks above, submit a request through the support route linked from the PUBG Support homepage. PUBG Support asks for incident details that allow its team to correlate your report with service and connection logs.
Include these details
- The approximate date and time the issue began and whether it is still happening.
- Your country, usual PUBG region, and internet service provider.
- The exact symptom and error wording, copied rather than paraphrased where possible.
- What you already tried, in order, including the Wi‑Fi-versus-Ethernet result and any alternate connection test.
- The server or match ID when available.
- A screenshot or short video showing the error when visual evidence clarifies what happened.
State whether the official status page showed an incident when you tested. Do not include passwords, authentication codes, or unrelated personal information. If your ISP has confirmed an outage or routing issue, attach its incident reference if one exists.

- Assuming one green status page proves everything is healthy: the page is live and may not reflect a regional route or local fault.
- Confusing network lag with FPS: measure and describe the symptom you actually observe.
- Leaving security protection off: use a brief diagnostic only, then restore protection and create a specific allow rule if needed.
- Disabling the router firewall: PUBG’s own checklist says not to recommend this as a standard step.
- Changing many settings at once: one change per test preserves a cause-and-effect trail.
- Promising a guaranteed fix: Ethernet, DNS flushing, UPnP, VPN changes, port forwarding, and reinstalling can be conditional diagnostics, not universal solutions.
- Reporting without exact details: support cannot correlate a vague “it lags” report as effectively as a timed error with a server or match ID.
A compact decision sequence
- Check the official PUBG status page and current maintenance information.
- Close bandwidth-heavy programs and retest.
- Restart the PC and router.
- Compare Wi‑Fi with a direct Ethernet connection.
- Test security software briefly and safely; replace a blocking rule instead of leaving protection disabled.
- Check ISP service, router firmware, DNS, UPnP, and third-party networking software one at a time.
- Try an alternate connection if the normal route remains suspect.
- Log the exact result and contact PUBG Support with the requested evidence.
This order starts with checks that can reveal a service event or remove obvious congestion, then moves toward local security and network configuration. It minimizes risky changes while giving you information that support can use.
