Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchDiagnose a PS5 Pro problem in this order: verify the console’s physical setup and TV connection, configure the network and install system software updates, identify whether storage capacity or storage playback is at fault, then check M.2 compatibility or USB-storage limits. Sony provides separate troubleshooting routes for TV connection, flickering, audio, discs, overheating, 8K image issues and other symptoms; use the route that matches what you see and contact PlayStation Support if it does not resolve the fault.
The steps below apply Sony’s general PS5 setup and storage guidance to the PS5 Pro, while hardware figures such as the internal drive and operating temperature come from Sony’s PS5 Pro CFI-71XX safety documentation. Menus and support pages can differ by region.

Start with the symptom, not the accessory
Do not begin by buying a new HDMI cable, display or storage drive. A loose connection, an incorrect TV input, incomplete game installation or a failed update can look like a hardware defect. Work through the checks below and change one thing at a time so you know which step affected the result.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- No picture or “no signal”: start with the console’s HDMI path and the display input.
- Internet or update failure: check the network setup and system software before investigating game storage.
- Full drive or a game that will not launch: separate available capacity from the location and type of storage.
- Heat warning, flicker, audio, disc or 8K symptom: use the matching PS5 Pro troubleshooting category rather than applying a generic reset.
Write down exactly what happens, when it happens and whether the problem affects every game or only one. “The console has no picture” is a different starting point from “the picture disappears after an update” or “one game fails only when installed on M.2.” This symptom-first description prevents you from changing several variables at once.

When the PS5 Pro will not show a picture or connect to a TV
Check the physical path
- Place the console on the model-specific base or feet required for your installation. Sony says the vertical stand for vertical placement is sold separately.
- Connect the HDMI cable to the PS5 Pro’s HDMI OUT port, then connect the other end to an HDMI input on the TV or monitor. Make sure both plugs are fully seated.
- Turn on the display and select the exact HDMI input used by the console. If the display has several inputs, test the selected input before changing cables.
- Connect the console’s power cable and start the PS5 Pro. If you are setting it up for the first time, follow the on-screen prompts for the controller, language, internet, display, Rest Mode and user agreement.
Check that the console is stable in its chosen orientation and that the cover or stand is fitted as required for that model. A poor physical setup can create a connection or cooling complaint that appears to be a software fault. Do not operate the console with a cover removed while you are testing a storage installation.
A connection failure does not automatically mean the TV or cable is incompatible. Sony’s PS5 Pro help includes a specific Console not connecting to TV route and separate HDMI troubleshooting guidance. Follow those instructions after confirming the port and input. Consider another cable or display only if the documented checks point in that direction.
If the image flickers or disappears intermittently
First reseat both HDMI ends and confirm that the TV has not switched inputs. Remove unnecessary intermediate equipment temporarily so the console is connected directly to the display. If the picture still flashes, use Sony’s PS5 Pro image flickering troubleshooting path. Keep the symptom distinct from a completely blank screen: intermittent flicker and no signal can require different display checks.
When reporting flicker, note whether it occurs in the home screen, a game, a disc or every screen. Also note whether sound continues while the image drops. Those observations identify whether you should remain in the display branch or move to the audio or game-specific branch.
If you are troubleshooting an 8K image or capture issue
Sony lists a dedicated 8K image route, including the symptom phrased as Can’t capture screenshots in 8K? Use that issue-specific guidance rather than assuming that ordinary HDMI troubleshooting will address an 8K capture problem. Record whether the failure affects the displayed image, screenshots, or both; that distinction helps you choose the correct support category.
When internet access or updates fail
Set up or repair the internet connection
- Open Settings > Network > Settings > Set up Internet Connection.
- Select the connection type shown by your network. The PS5 Pro supports both Ethernet and Wi‑Fi connectivity, as identified in Sony’s CFI-71XX specifications.
- Choose your network, then enter its security details when prompted. For a wired connection, verify that the Ethernet cable is seated at the console and network equipment.
- Retry the online action that failed. If the console still cannot connect, follow the connection-troubleshooting route linked from Sony’s setup guidance rather than repeatedly changing unrelated console settings.
Try to identify whether the fault is wireless association, internet access or a particular service. A console that cannot join Wi‑Fi, a console that is online but cannot download, and a game that cannot reach its service are different problems. Check whether other devices can use the same network, but do not treat that check as proof that the console’s configuration is correct.
If Ethernet works but Wi‑Fi does not, describe that comparison to support. If neither works, keep the connection type and the exact on-screen error in your notes. Avoid changing network settings repeatedly without recording the original configuration.

Check system software
- Open Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings.
- Install an available update and allow the console to complete the process.
- If downloading the update fails, use Sony’s documented manual-update method with a computer and an external USB drive. Follow Sony’s current folder, file-name and startup instructions for the update package; do not improvise names or interrupt the installation.
Do not power off while system software is being installed. If an update fails repeatedly, note the displayed error and the point at which it fails before moving to Sony’s support route. An update failure is not evidence that an M.2 drive needs replacement; finish the software diagnosis first.
Storage problems: capacity, location and playability are different
Know what each storage location can do
Sony’s 2025 PS5 Pro CFI-71XX Safety Guide lists a 2 TB custom SSD inside the console and an M.2 SSD expansion connector. The available space shown by the console will be lower than the advertised capacity because system software and reserved data use part of the drive.
| Storage option | What it is suitable for | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Internal console storage | The baseline location for installing and playing games. | Capacity is finite; Sony suggests moving a problematic M.2 game here as a troubleshooting step. |
| Compatible M.2 SSD | Downloading and playing PS5 and PS4 games from added storage. | The drive, form factor and cooling must meet Sony’s requirements, and first-use formatting erases the drive. |
| USB extended storage | Archiving or moving game data and storing PS4 games for play. | PS5 games stored there must be copied to console storage or M.2 storage before they can be played. |
The storage location matters even when the console has plenty of free space. USB extended storage can preserve PS5 game data for later transfer, but it is not a launch location for those games. M.2 storage is the added location intended for downloading and playing both PS5 and PS4 games, provided the drive meets Sony’s conditions.
If the console says it is full
Open the console’s storage-management screens and identify large games, captures and other data. Delete items you no longer need or move them to an appropriate storage location. A USB drive can hold PS5 game data for transfer, but it is not a play-from location for PS5 games. If you want to launch PS5 titles without moving them back and forth, use a compatible M.2 SSD.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Do not judge a drive by its advertised 2 TB or expansion capacity alone. The internal figure is a hardware specification, not the amount available for games, and a new M.2 drive must be formatted before use. Make sure any captures or other files you want to keep are copied elsewhere before deleting or formatting.
If a game on M.2 storage crashes, stutters or will not start
- Pause active downloads and allow any disc-based game installation to finish completely.
- Retry the game after those background operations stop.
- If the problem continues, move the game from M.2 storage to the internal console storage and test it there.
This comparison isolates storage location from the game itself. If the same title works from internal storage, check the M.2 drive’s installation, cooling and compatibility. If it fails in both locations, use the game or console troubleshooting path instead of replacing the drive immediately. Do not assume that a transfer problem means the game license or account is damaged.
Adding an M.2 SSD: verify every requirement before installation

| Requirement | Sony’s published condition |
|---|---|
| Interface | PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe, Key M. |
| Capacity | 250 GB to 8 TB. |
| Supported form factors | 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280 or 22110. |
| Maximum width | 25 mm. |
| Maximum thickness | 11.25 mm overall: up to 8.0 mm above the circuit board and 2.45 mm below it. |
| Speed | Sony recommends a sequential read speed of at least 5,500 MB/s. |
| Cooling | A heat-dissipation structure, such as a heatsink and heat-transfer sheet, is required. |
| Excluded type | M.2 SATA drives are not supported. |
Measure the complete drive-and-cooling assembly, not just the bare SSD. A heatsink that fits the drive but exceeds the height or width limit can prevent the cover from closing or stop the drive from seating correctly. If the SSD already has a built-in heatsink, do not add a second heatsink.

Check the listing for the interface, key, capacity, physical length and complete cooled dimensions before buying. “M.2” by itself is not enough: M.2 SATA is explicitly excluded, and a drive outside the supported form factors may not align with the connector or mounting point.
Meeting the published figures does not create a guarantee: Sony says it cannot assure that every third-party drive satisfying the listed specifications will work. It also warns that performance may not match the internal SSD in every game. Keep the receipt and compatibility information until the drive has been formatted and tested.
Install the drive safely
- Read the installation instructions for your exact PS5 Pro model and prepare a #1 Phillips or cross-head screwdriver.
- Shut down the console completely, disconnect it from power and let it cool.
- Before touching the drive or internal parts, touch a grounded metal object to discharge static electricity.
- Follow Sony’s model-specific cover and expansion-bay procedure. Do not power on or play while the cover is removed.
- Seat the M.2 SSD in the connector, secure it as directed, and install the required cooling structure without exceeding the dimensional limits.
- Close the cover before reconnecting power and starting the console.
Use the procedure for the exact model rather than relying on a generic video. The connector, cover and mounting steps must be followed in the order Sony specifies. Do not force a drive into the slot, and do not test the console with the expansion cover off.
Formatting and data preservation
On first use, the console asks to format the M.2 SSD. Formatting erases all data on that drive, so copy off anything you need before installing it. Do not switch off the PS5 Pro or interrupt data saving while formatting is in progress. A drive that contains important files should never be installed as though it were empty.
Formatting is separate from choosing where a game is installed. After the drive is accepted, use the console’s storage controls to move or install games deliberately. If a title later misbehaves, compare it with the internal-storage test before concluding that the drive has failed.
Symptom-specific branches
Overheating or an overheating warning
Stop demanding use and follow Sony’s PS5 Pro overheating troubleshooting route. The CFI-71XX safety guide specifies an operating temperature range of 5 °C to 35 °C; use that figure when checking the room and installation conditions. If the warning returns, avoid repeated power cycles and move to PlayStation Support with the exact message and when it appears.

No sound or distorted audio
Confirm that the display or audio device is connected through the intended HDMI path and that its input has not changed. Then use Sony’s dedicated PS5 Pro audio troubleshooting category. Keep a note of whether menus, games, discs or all content are affected; the scope is useful when selecting the support flow.
A disc will not read
Use Sony’s PS5 Pro disc troubleshooting route for a disc-specific failure. Record whether one disc or multiple discs fail and whether the console recognizes the disc at all. Do not treat a disc-reading symptom as evidence that the M.2 or USB storage is defective.

PS4 game image quality is not improved
Sony’s troubleshooting categories include the question Not seeing upgraded image quality for a PS4 game? Choose that route when the issue is visual quality in a PS4 title, rather than treating it as a general HDMI failure. Note the game, display connection and whether other titles show the expected image before contacting support.
Captures, screenshots or 8K output fail
Use the 8K image and capture-specific guidance when the problem concerns 8K screenshots or output. For ordinary capture failures, identify whether the issue occurs in a game, the system interface or every context before contacting support.

Escalate when the relevant Sony procedure does not restore the function, an error returns after a system update, the console repeatedly overheats, or the hardware cannot complete setup. Have the model designation (the CFI-71XX family), system-software version, exact error text, affected storage location and the steps already completed ready for the support agent. Use Sony’s support page for your region because menu labels, update files and service options can vary by market.
Keep the problem narrow in your report: “no signal on HDMI input 2 after reseating the cable” is more actionable than “the PS5 Pro is broken.” If a game works from internal storage but not from M.2, include that comparison; if PS5 games are on USB extended storage, explain that they were moved back before testing. Include whether the console uses Ethernet or Wi‑Fi and whether the fault affects one title or the entire system.
Do not keep repeating a step that risks data loss. Formatting an M.2 drive erases it, and interrupting formatting or a system-software installation can create a separate problem. Preserve error messages and important data, then use Sony’s regional support route when the documented branch does not resolve the symptom.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I check first when my PS5 Pro has no picture?
Confirm the console is placed on the correct model-specific base or feet, connect HDMI from HDMI OUT to the display’s selected HDMI input, reseat both ends and verify the display input. Then use Sony’s Console not connecting to TV and HDMI troubleshooting paths.
Where do I set up internet on a PS5 Pro?
Go to Settings > Network > Settings > Set up Internet Connection. Choose Wi‑Fi or Ethernet, select the network and enter its security details. If connection still fails, use Sony’s network troubleshooting route.
How do I manually update PS5 Pro system software?
First check Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings. If downloading fails, Sony documents a manual update with a computer and external USB drive. Follow Sony’s current folder, file-name and startup instructions exactly, and do not interrupt installation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCan PS5 games run from USB extended storage?
No. USB extended storage can archive or move PS5 game data and can store PS4 games for play, but PS5 games must be copied to internal console storage or a compatible M.2 SSD before launching.
What M.2 SSD does the PS5 Pro support?
Sony specifies PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe, Key M drives from 250 GB to 8 TB, in 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280 or 22110 sizes. Maximum width is 25 mm and maximum total thickness is 11.25 mm. Sony recommends at least 5,500 MB/s sequential read speed, requires heat dissipation and does not support M.2 SATA.
Will formatting a new M.2 SSD delete files?
Yes. First-use formatting erases all data on the entire drive. Back up anything important before installation, and do not power off or interrupt the PS5 Pro while formatting or saving data.
What should I do if a game on M.2 storage crashes?
Pause downloads and let any disc installation finish. Retry the game, then move it to internal console storage if the issue continues. If it works internally, investigate the M.2 drive’s fit, cooling and compatibility.
When should I contact PlayStation Support?
Contact support when the relevant Sony troubleshooting route does not resolve the fault, setup cannot finish, an error returns after updating or overheating persists. Provide the CFI-71XX model family, software version, exact error, storage location and steps already completed.
The Bottom Line
Follow the symptom in order: verify HDMI and physical setup, configure Ethernet or Wi‑Fi and update system software, then distinguish internal, M.2 and USB storage behavior. Use only an M.2 drive that meets Sony’s interface, size, speed and cooling requirements, remember that first-use formatting erases it, and escalate unresolved TV, audio, disc, overheating, flicker or 8K problems to regional PlayStation Support.
