Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If PS VR2 Sense controllers won’t pair with SteamVR on a Windows PC, start in Windows Bluetooth settings: the left and right controllers enter pairing mode with different button combinations and must be paired separately. If they pair but tracking stutters or they disconnect, check the Bluetooth adapter’s driver, placement and nearby interference. Headset camera or play-area tracking is a separate issue with different fixes.
Pair each PS VR2 Sense controller in Windows
First-time pairing is handled through Windows Bluetooth, not SteamVR. Charge both controllers and disconnect their USB cables before starting. Keep each controller’s status indicator blinking while you select it in Windows; if it stops blinking before pairing finishes, repeat the pairing sequence for that controller.

- On the left controller, hold the PS button and Create button together until the status indicator blinks.
- On the right controller, hold the PS button and Options button together until its status indicator blinks.
- In Windows, turn on Bluetooth in Settings, open the Bluetooth device-add screen, and select each PS VR2 Sense controller separately to pair it.
Sony’s PC adapter manual and PC setup guidance describe this procedure: PS VR2 PC setup and PS VR2 PC adapter manual and FAQ. Windows labels can vary by version, but the essential steps are to enable Bluetooth and add each controller while it is discoverable.

If pairing fails or a controller keeps disconnecting
Sony says the PS VR2 Sense controller requires faster and more stable Bluetooth communication than other Bluetooth devices. That makes adapter setup and radio conditions important when controllers fail to connect reliably. Work through these checks in order.
#1 Best Overall
- Ultra Customizable Controls
- Mappable Back Buttons
- DualSense Wireless Controller Features Built In
- Replaceable Stick Modules and Caps
Check charge, pairing mode and connection state
- Make sure both controllers are charged, Bluetooth is enabled in Windows, and the controller you are adding is still blinking.
- Pair the left and right controllers individually rather than expecting one pairing action to add both.
- If a controller was previously connected to a PS5, switch the PS5 off while troubleshooting the PC connection.
Update and reposition an external Bluetooth adapter
- Install the latest Windows driver supplied by the adapter’s manufacturer. Sony cautions that not all Bluetooth adapters work properly with PS VR2 Sense controllers.
- If you use a USB Bluetooth adapter, connect it to a USB 2.0 port and position it as far as possible from USB 3.0 ports. A USB 2.0 extension cable can help move the Bluetooth adapter away from the PC; it is a placement aid, not a guaranteed fix.
- Keep any external antenna in clear view of the controllers. Remove obstructions between the controllers and adapter.
Reduce nearby wireless interference
- Temporarily turn off other Bluetooth devices nearby to see whether the connection improves.
- If your PC uses Wi-Fi, try the 5 GHz band, as Sony suggests.
Escalate to a Windows Bluetooth driver cleanup
If the simpler checks do not help, Sony’s Bluetooth troubleshooting guidance recommends restarting Windows, power-cycling the adapter, reinstalling its latest driver, and removing the PS VR2 Sense controller driver and unused Bluetooth device drivers in Device Manager before restarting and installing the current Bluetooth driver. Device Manager can show hidden devices; include unused Bluetooth entries when carrying out that cleanup. Follow Sony’s regional support guidance for the applicable Windows configuration: PS VR2 Bluetooth connection troubleshooting.
Bluetooth adapter models Sony has tested
Sony lists the following models as tested for compatibility on 2024-07-20. Sony does not guarantee operation, and its published list gives no comparative performance results or ranking. Treat these as tested examples, not a promise that a model will work with every PC or a current buying recommendation.

Before buying an adapter, check whether its manufacturer provides a current Windows driver and whether you can place it with clear visibility and distance from USB 3.0 ports. If you already own an external adapter, try its driver and placement before replacing it. Sony’s model list and caveat are on its Bluetooth troubleshooting page.
If controllers pair but a game does not respond correctly
Pairing and game input are different checks. Pressing PS opens the SteamVR dashboard, where you can check controller battery level. If both controllers connect but a particular game responds incorrectly, review that game’s controller bindings in SteamVR; Sony notes that some games may need their bindings changed. See Sony’s PS VR2 PC FAQ.

Separate controller tracking from headset tracking
Sense controller tracking relies on the Bluetooth connection, so begin with the adapter, driver, placement and interference checks above. If instead the headset view or room tracking is the problem, Sony’s PC guidance recommends headset- and play-area-specific steps:
- Turn off the headset and close SteamVR, then open the PlayStation VR2 App and delete the saved play-area data.
- Clean the headset tracking cameras with a soft, dry lens-cleaning cloth and avoid direct sunlight.
- Use a well-lit room. When setting up the play area, scan the full room, including the ceiling and floor. Posters or pictures may help if the walls are plain.
These steps address headset camera or room tracking, not a controller that will not pair over Bluetooth. Sony’s PS VR2 PC troubleshooting guidance describes the headset-side checks.

Check the PC adapter, app and firmware when the headset is the problem
If the headset itself is not detected or setup reports a USB connection problem, check the PC-side setup separately from controller Bluetooth:
- Reconnect the cables and confirm that the PC meets Sony’s minimum requirements.
- Use a DisplayPort 1.4-or-higher cable and check the PlayStation VR2 App connection.
- Confirm SteamVR Direct Mode is enabled.
- Connect the PC adapter directly to a USB 3.0 port; try another port if the connection problem persists. Sony’s adapter manual warns against using a USB hub or extension cable with the PC adapter itself. This is distinct from using a USB 2.0 extension cable to position a separate Bluetooth dongle.
The PlayStation VR2 App on Windows can also update headset and controller firmware. Select Update for the device, wait for the app to show Up to date, then restart SteamVR. An update is a sensible check when firmware is out of date, but Sony does not say it will resolve every pairing or tracking problem. See the PS VR2 PC FAQ and PC troubleshooting page.
Do not treat PS5 reset instructions as a confirmed PC fix
Sony’s PS5 troubleshooting guidance describes a physical reset button on the back of a Sense controller, followed by reconnecting it to a PS5 with USB and pressing PS. That is PS5 guidance; Sony’s cited instructions do not establish the procedure as a fix for PC Bluetooth pairing. For a PC connection problem, prioritize the Windows pairing and Bluetooth driver steps above. Sony’s PS5 instructions are at PS VR2 troubleshooting.
