When mobile data fails on a vivo phone, first determine whether the problem affects every app, only one destination, one SIM, one location, or only 5G. Then check service and coverage, isolate the SIM from the phone, restore the carrier APN, and reset network settings only as a later step. This order uses reversible checks first and avoids guessing carrier-specific settings.
The menu names differ by vivo model, country, and Funtouch OS version. Use the closest path shown below, or search Settings for a term such as APN, mobile network, or network reset.

Identify exactly what is failing
“No internet” can describe several different faults. Record what you see before changing settings: whether mobile data is completely unavailable, merely slow, blocked in one app or website, or working on 4G/LTE but never registering 5G. Note whether it began after travel, a SIM or plan change, a software update, or a settings change. Also note whether it happens everywhere or only at one address.
| Symptom | Most useful first comparison | Likely area to investigate |
|---|---|---|
| All apps have no mobile internet | Check the data SIM, account, coverage, and the same SIM in another phone | Carrier service, SIM, APN, or phone network configuration |
| Only one app or a few websites fail | Try another app and disable any VPN temporarily | App data permission, VPN, carrier filtering, or the destination itself |
| Data is slow in one place | Retest outdoors or in another known coverage area | Signal strength, congestion, building materials, or local carrier conditions |
| 4G/LTE works but 5G does not | Check model, plan, SIM, coverage, and preferred network mode | 5G eligibility, bands, coverage, or carrier voice-network behavior |
| Data changes during a call | Compare ordinary use with a call in the same location | Carrier support for VoNR and simultaneous 4G/5G service |
These comparisons prevent an app-specific failure from being treated as a general network outage. They also show whether a later SIM swap or network reset is justified. Write down the network indicator, the approximate time, and the location for each test. A short record is especially useful when the fault is intermittent and disappears before you contact support.

Ask five questions: Does it fail in one place or everywhere? Does another app work? Does the same SIM work in another handset? Does a different same-carrier SIM work in the vivo? Does the symptom change during a voice call? Each answer points toward an app, coverage, account, SIM, network-mode, or phone-side cause.
Check service, the selected SIM, and simple controls
Verify mobile data and the data SIM
- Open Settings and confirm Mobile data is enabled.
- On a dual-SIM vivo phone, open the SIM or mobile-network section and confirm the intended SIM is selected for mobile data. A SIM can be inserted and able to make calls while not being the data SIM.
- Check that the SIM shows service rather than “No service” or emergency-only service.
- Confirm with the carrier that the account is active, the plan includes mobile data, and the allowance has not been exhausted or restricted. Usage limits, suspension, provisioning errors, and an expired plan cannot be repaired by changing a phone setting.
If the carrier reports an account or usage problem, resolve that first and test again before changing APN or reset settings. If both SIMs are active, verify which line is assigned to data and whether the phone has switched that assignment after a SIM replacement or update. Keep Wi-Fi off during the test so a working Wi-Fi connection does not mask a mobile-data failure.
Refresh the radio connection
Turn airplane mode on, wait a few seconds, turn it off, and test a webpage or app. This forces the phone to re-register with the network without deleting saved settings. A normal restart is also worthwhile if the problem began suddenly. Wait for the signal indicator and carrier name to return before judging the result.

Underground rooms, elevators, thick concrete, remote areas, and temporary carrier conditions can produce weak or unusable data. Move to an open area, preferably outdoors, and retest. If the signal improves after removing a metal case or magnetic holder, leave the accessory off while diagnosing; vivo notes that such accessories can interfere with reception. A single successful outdoor test does not prove the network is healthy everywhere, but it distinguishes coverage from a phone-wide failure.
Repeat the same test at a second known coverage location rather than relying on the number of bars alone. If data works outdoors but not in one building, report that location and time to the carrier. If it fails in several locations and with more than one SIM, continue with phone-side checks.
Separate an app problem from an all-data problem
When only one app or website fails
Open a different app and several unrelated websites using mobile data. If they work, inspect the failing app rather than reinstalling every app.
- In the vivo network-management or app-permission controls available on your model, make sure the app is allowed to use mobile data. The exact label and location vary by software version.
- Disable a VPN temporarily and retry. A VPN can block a destination, fail to connect over the carrier network, or apply a restrictive route.
- Check whether the carrier restricts the particular service or whether the app’s own service is unavailable. A carrier restriction or an app-side fault can affect selected destinations while the rest of mobile internet works.
- Compare the same app over Wi-Fi. Failure on both Wi-Fi and mobile data points more strongly to the app or its service than to the SIM.
Do not assume that a browser failure means all data is down: test another browser or service. Conversely, a single successful messaging app does not prove the connection is healthy if other destinations are blocked. Keep the test simple and use the same location, SIM, and time when comparing results.

When every app fails
Do not spend time clearing unrelated app caches. Continue with the SIM, account, coverage, APN, and cross-test checks below. An all-app failure indicates a connection path problem, not normally a single app permission. If Wi-Fi works normally while every mobile-data app fails, concentrate on the cellular path rather than the phone’s general internet access.
Restore the carrier APN safely
The access point name (APN) tells the phone how to reach the carrier’s packet-data service. A wrong APN can follow a manual edit, a SIM change, or a software/settings change. Do not enter an APN value copied from an unrelated country or operator; the correct values depend on the local carrier and plan.
Use the reset-to-default option
- Open Settings.
- Use the menu path that matches your vivo software. Common variants are Mobile network or Dual SIMs & mobile network > SIM card info and settings > select the SIM > Access point name (APN), or Network & internet > SIM card & mobile network > select the SIM > Access point name (APN).
- Open the APN menu and choose the option to Reset to default (wording can differ).
- Restart the phone and test mobile data with Wi-Fi turned off.
If you cannot find the menu, search Settings for APN. If the default profile is absent or the carrier requires a special profile, ask the carrier for the correct configuration rather than guessing. On a dual-SIM handset, make sure you reset the profile for the SIM that is actually assigned to data.
Install available system updates
If data remains unavailable or unstable, check Settings for a system or software update and install one when offered. Keep the phone charged and connected to Wi-Fi during the update when possible. An update can correct modem or carrier-configuration problems, but it is not a substitute for verifying account service and coverage. After updating, restart and repeat the same location and SIM tests so you can tell whether the behavior changed.

Cross-test the SIM to locate the fault
SIM cross-testing is the clearest way to separate a carrier or SIM issue from a vivo phone issue. It narrows the cause; it does not, by itself, prove a hardware failure.
- Power down if your model requires it, remove the affected SIM, and place it in another unlocked phone that supports the carrier. Test mobile data in the same location.
- If the problem follows the SIM, contact the carrier to check account restrictions, provisioning, local service, and SIM condition. Ask whether a replacement SIM is appropriate.
- If the SIM works normally in the other phone, return it to the vivo and insert a second working SIM from the same carrier.
- If the second same-carrier SIM works in the vivo, the original SIM or its account provisioning is the leading suspect.
- If the second SIM also fails in the vivo, continue phone-side troubleshooting and contact vivo regional support, especially after the APN, update, and network-reset steps.
| Affected SIM in another phone | Second same-carrier SIM in vivo | What the result suggests |
|---|---|---|
| Fails | Not required | Carrier account, service, provisioning, or SIM condition |
| Works | Works | Original SIM or its account configuration is more likely |
| Works | Fails | vivo configuration, software, compatibility, or possible phone fault |
| Works intermittently | Inconclusive | Repeat in the same location and record signal, time, and network indicator before contacting support |
Use an unlocked test phone and a SIM that is active on the same carrier when making this comparison. Different carrier bands, plans, or roaming rules can otherwise create a misleading result. Do not change several settings between tests; changing one variable at a time makes the result meaningful.
Reset network settings only after easier checks
A network reset is a later troubleshooting step, not the same as erasing the phone. On the applicable vivo menu, look in Settings for Reset options, System management, or search for Reset network settings. Select the option that resets network connections, then confirm and restart if prompted.

vivo support guidance warns that this reset removes saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords, mobile-network settings, and Bluetooth pairings. You will need to reconnect Wi-Fi, pair accessories again, and re-enter any required connection details. Back up Wi-Fi passwords or note important pairings first. Do not choose a factory reset as an early response to a mobile-data problem: it erases personal content and is not justified before carrier, SIM, APN, update, and network-reset diagnostics.
After the reset, select the correct data SIM again if the phone asks, allow it time to register, and retest with Wi-Fi disabled. If the reset fixes data only temporarily, record when it fails again and whether the failure follows a location, call, or SIM change; that pattern is more useful to support than repeating the reset.
Why 5G may not appear on a vivo phone
A 5G-capable handset alone does not guarantee a 5G indicator. The exact model variant, supported bands, SIM, plan, carrier provisioning, location, and network conditions all have to align. A phone can correctly remain on 4G/LTE when 5G coverage is absent, congested, unavailable to the account, or not supported by that model variant.
Check model and carrier eligibility
- Confirm the exact vivo model and regional variant, not just the product family, supports the carrier’s 5G service and bands.
- Ask the carrier whether the SIM and plan are enabled for 5G and whether the device is recognized on the account.
- Verify 5G coverage at the current address. A nominal coverage map does not guarantee service inside every building or at every moment.
- Check the preferred network mode in the SIM or mobile-network settings and choose an option that permits 5G, if your carrier and model provide one. Avoid forcing a mode that the carrier does not support.
Check these items in order rather than forcing a 5G-only mode. A forced mode can leave the phone without usable service where 5G is unavailable, while an automatic 4G/5G option can keep data working as coverage changes. The wording for the preferred mode differs by model and software version.
Use local carrier information, not another country’s settings
vivo’s India support guidance directs customers to coverage information from Jio, Airtel, and Vi. Those are India-specific examples; readers elsewhere should use their own carrier’s coverage and eligibility pages. Do not infer international 5G support from an Indian plan, map, or menu.
Understand 5G during voice calls
The 5G icon may disappear or change during a call. Voice over New Radio (VoNR) is available only in some cities and under particular carrier conditions. If the carrier does not provide VoNR for your account or location, the phone may use 4G for voice or show a different network indicator. This behavior does not automatically mean the 5G radio is defective, and a persistent 5G icon during every call should not be expected.
Compare the indicator before the call, during the call, and immediately after it in the same place. If ordinary data returns to 5G after the call, the change is probably carrier voice behavior rather than a permanent loss of 5G registration. If data fails after every call, include that timing in the carrier report.

Use the symptom and timing clues to choose the next action
It fails only in one building or neighborhood
Repeat the test outdoors and in another known coverage area. If service returns, report the location and time to the carrier; a coverage gap, building attenuation, or temporary network condition is more likely than a damaged phone.
It fails everywhere, including after a SIM swap
Confirm the data SIM selection, restore the APN, install available updates, and perform the later network reset. If a second same-carrier SIM also fails in the vivo while working elsewhere, contact vivo regional support with the model, software version, location, and the tests already completed.
It became slow rather than stopping
Compare speed and responsiveness in another location and at another time, then compare the same SIM in another phone. Congestion, weak indoor signal, carrier policy, or a plan allowance can reduce speed without producing a total outage. No universal speed threshold can identify the cause without controlled testing, so give the carrier the time, location, signal indicator, and account details.
It started after travel, a plan change, or a SIM replacement
Ask the carrier to verify roaming or domestic provisioning, the plan’s data eligibility, and the replacement SIM’s activation. Then restore the APN and restart. Travel can expose a model or band incompatibility that was not visible on the home network.
It works on 4G but never on 5G
Do not treat 4G service as proof that every 5G requirement is satisfied. Confirm the exact regional model, the carrier’s supported bands, the 5G-enabled plan and SIM, local coverage, and a preferred mode that permits 5G. If all of those are correct, ask the carrier whether the device is provisioned and recognized on the account.
A compact decision path
- All apps fail: check mobile data, the selected SIM, account status, airplane mode, and an open-area test.
- Only one app or site fails: check mobile-data permission, VPN behavior, Wi-Fi comparison, and possible carrier or app restrictions.
- The same SIM fails in another phone: have the carrier check service, provisioning, allowance, and SIM condition.
- The SIM works elsewhere but another same-carrier SIM fails in the vivo: restore the APN, update software, then use the network reset and contact vivo if necessary.
- Only 5G is missing: verify model, bands, plan, SIM, coverage, network mode, and call-related VoNR behavior before treating it as a fault.
This order limits disruption. It also gives the carrier or vivo a clear record of what was tested, where it was tested, and which component the symptom followed.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhen to contact the carrier or vivo
Contact the carrier when
- The affected SIM fails in another phone.
- The account, plan, data allowance, roaming, or provisioning may be restricted.
- Coverage is poor or absent in a specific area.
- 5G eligibility, supported bands, or VoNR availability is unclear.
- A replacement SIM may be needed after cross-testing.
Contact vivo regional support when
- A second working same-carrier SIM also fails in the phone.
- Mobile data remains broken after checking service, coverage, SIM selection, APN defaults, software updates, and the network reset.
- The phone repeatedly loses registration, shows unusual behavior after a software change, or may have a device-specific compatibility issue.
Provide the exact model and regional variant, software version, carrier, SIM type, affected locations, network indicator, and the outcome of both SIM tests. That information lets support distinguish an account problem from a phone-side configuration or hardware investigation without repeating basic steps.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why can’t I access the internet through 2G, 3G, 4G, or 5G on my vivo phone?
First confirm mobile data is on, the intended SIM is selected for data, and the account has active service and available data. Toggle airplane mode, move outdoors, and test again. If every app still fails, test the SIM in another phone, restore the APN to default, and contact the carrier if the fault follows the SIM.
Why can’t I use 4G or 5G even though my vivo phone supports it?
Phone capability is only one requirement. The exact regional model, supported bands, SIM, plan, carrier provisioning, coverage, and preferred network mode must all align. Ask the carrier to confirm eligibility and device recognition, then check coverage at your location. Do not assume a 5G model receives 5G everywhere.
Why is internet speed slow when using the data network?
Retest outdoors, in another known coverage area, and at another time. Weak indoor signal, congestion, carrier policy, or an exhausted plan allowance can reduce speed without causing a complete outage. Compare the same SIM in another phone and give the carrier the location, time, network indicator, and account details.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchWhy can’t one app access the internet while other apps work?
Check that the app is allowed to use mobile data in your vivo network-management settings. Disable a VPN temporarily and compare the app over Wi-Fi. If other services work, the problem may be the app, its destination, or a carrier restriction rather than the phone’s entire mobile-data connection.
Should I enter an APN copied from the internet?
No. APN values depend on the local carrier, country, plan, and SIM. Use the vivo option to reset the APN to default, restart, and test. If the default profile is missing or data still fails, ask the carrier for the correct configuration instead of entering values from another operator.
Will resetting network settings erase my photos and apps?
A network reset is not a factory reset, so it does not normally erase personal content. It does remove saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords, mobile-network settings, and Bluetooth pairings. Note important passwords and pairings first, then reconnect networks and accessories after the reset.
Why does the 5G icon disappear during a phone call?
5G display during calls depends on carrier conditions and Voice over New Radio support. VoNR is available only in some cities and situations, so the phone may use 4G for voice or show another indicator. A changing icon during calls does not automatically mean the 5G hardware is defective.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →When should I replace the SIM or contact vivo?
If the affected SIM fails in another phone, ask the carrier to check service, provisioning, account restrictions, and SIM condition; a replacement may be appropriate. If that SIM works elsewhere but a second same-carrier SIM also fails in the vivo after APN, update, and network-reset checks, contact vivo regional support.
The Bottom Line
Start with the selected data SIM, account service, coverage, and simple radio refresh. Separate one-app failures from all-data failures, then cross-test the SIM before restoring the APN or resetting network settings. For missing 5G, verify the exact model, bands, plan, SIM, coverage, network mode, and call-related VoNR behavior. Contact the carrier for account or coverage faults and vivo for a persistent phone-specific failure.
