How to Troubleshoot Low FPS or Stuttering on an RTX 5060 Ti PC

First identify whether the problem is consistently low frame rate, brief frame-time spikes, or delayed input: they have different causes and fixes. Reproduce it in the same game scene, record the resolution and settings, and compare average FPS with 1% lows or frame-time behavior before changing one thing at a time. An RTX 5060 Ti alone is not enough information to identify a bottleneck or promise a particular FPS.

Separate low FPS, stutter, and input lag

  • Consistently low FPS: The game produces fewer frames than you want throughout a repeatable scene. Resolution, graphics settings, CPU limits, temperatures, power behavior, or background work may be relevant, but measurements are needed to narrow the cause.
  • Stutter: The game usually runs smoothly but pauses or hitches. Frame-time spikes and 1% lows can help reveal uneven delivery that an average FPS number hides. NVIDIA’s FrameView guide identifies 1% low FPS as one of three key metrics for evaluating a game.
  • Input lag: Controls feel delayed even when frame rate appears acceptable. This is a responsiveness problem, not proof that the GPU is producing too few frames.

For a useful comparison, note the game and scene, resolution, settings, average FPS, and whether frame times show spikes. Repeat the same test after each change; changing several settings at once makes the result hard to interpret.

Check whether shader compilation explains the stutter

If the hitches began after a driver or game update, run the same scene again after the game has had time to compile shaders. NVIDIA says shader compilation is a common cause of gameplay stutter and that installing a driver deletes the shader cache, so the first game run after a driver update may stutter. See NVIDIA Control Panel Help’s Manage 3D Settings reference.

Do not repeatedly clear the shader cache as a routine fix: doing so can make the game compile shaders again. NVIDIA also notes that a cache limit that is too small can evict shaders still in use and contribute to stutter. If adjusting the limit, allow enough room for the games you play while accounting for available disk space.

Verify the driver and the game’s profile

  1. Open NVIDIA’s official driver listing and selector and check the current Game Ready Driver for the RTX 5060 Ti and your exact operating system. Driver releases change, so use the live listing rather than an old version number.
  2. Check the release notes for the affected game. Driver updates can include fixes for particular titles; NVIDIA’s listing dated April 16, 2026, for version 596.21, for example, named a stutter fix for Arknights: Endfield. That example does not establish the cause of stutter in another game.
  3. Inspect the NVIDIA per-application profile for the game. Look for an unintended frame-rate cap or unusual override. If the profile seems suspect, restore its defaults for a controlled comparison. NVIDIA’s April 2025 RTX 5060 Ti launch guidance required the then-current driver when adding the card; that is historical launch context, not a current driver recommendation.

If only one game is affected, check that game’s patch notes and support channels before changing system-wide settings.

Test resolution and graphics settings systematically

  1. Confirm the game is using the intended display resolution and refresh rate.
  2. In the same scene, reduce one demanding setting—such as ray tracing or another costly image-quality option—and compare average FPS and frame-time consistency.
  3. If the game offers DLSS, compare its available modes in that title and judge both image quality and performance. Feature availability and results vary by game and settings; NVIDIA’s RTX 5060 family specifications list DLSS 4 features for the RTX 5060 Ti, but do not guarantee a particular FPS increase.

The RTX 5060 Ti is sold in 8 GB and 16 GB GDDR7 configurations. Check the exact card model rather than assuming which VRAM capacity is installed; board-partner models vary.

Use Reflex for responsiveness, not as a universal FPS fix

If the complaint is delayed input and the game supports NVIDIA Reflex, try its in-game option and compare responsiveness in the same situation. Reflex is designed to reduce system latency by coordinating CPU and GPU work; it does not diagnose or universally fix low average FPS or shader-compilation stutter. NVIDIA describes the technology in its Reflex SDK documentation.

Look for limits beyond graphics settings

If the issue persists, repeat the test with overlays, capture tools, and nonessential background applications closed. Observe CPU and GPU utilization, temperatures, memory use, and power behavior during the same scene. Those observations can help investigate a CPU limit, thermal or power issue, or background workload, but no single threshold identifies the cause for every PC.

When comparing render options, use the same scene and resolution and assess average FPS, 1% lows or frame-time consistency, image quality, and responsiveness. Treat Reflex responsiveness separately from frame production, and remember that DLSS and frame generation availability depends on the game.

When to contact support

If the problem is severe, appears across several games, or comes with visual artifacts, crashes, or shutdowns, collect the PC configuration, driver version, affected game, and steps that reliably reproduce the issue. Share those details with the PC or component manufacturer, or the game’s support team. Without measurements and system details, low FPS or stutter alone does not establish that the GPU is faulty.
