Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf Modern Warfare 4 is lagging or your shots seem not to register, first check Activision’s current service status and MW4 issue tracking. Then separate network symptoms—such as rubber-banding or delayed hit markers—from PC frame-rate or input problems. MW4 is scheduled for release on October 23, 2026; as of October 3, Activision’s MW4-specific information covered the beta, so reported issues and fixes may change quickly.
Check whether the problem is affecting MW4 broadly
Before changing router settings, check the current Activision online services status and the latest MW4 known issues and patch notes. Activision’s beta notes included reports of a rare disconnect, a hitch during the first PC match, hitching with recording software on some PCs, and poor streaming quality at match start. These are possible leads, not proof that any one of them explains your match.

Activision’s general Call of Duty guidance describes rubber-banding, stuttering, and delayed hit markers as possible lag symptoms. Ping, also called latency, measures how long data takes to travel between locations and is expressed in milliseconds. A hit marker, killcam, or single lost gunfight by itself does not establish whether the cause was your device, connection, server path, or game code.
#1 Best Overall
- Blazing-fast WiFi 7 boosts tri-band throughput up to 12000 Mbps with 320 MHz channels of 6 GHz band, Multi-Link Operation (MLO) and 4K-QAM
- Powerful wired network capacity of up to 20G with one 2.5G WAN port and seven 2.5G LAN ports.
- High-performance quad-core 2.0GHz CPU with robust cooling, 2GB RAM and eight internal antennas providing up to 3000 sq. ft. of range.
- Smart Home Master makes it easy to set up functional subnetwork (up to 3 SSIDs) for IoT devices and VPNs
- ROG-exclusive Gaming Network streamlines Triple-Level Game Acceleration setup and connections through convenient SSIDs
- Rubber-banding or teleporting: your character or other players jump backward or forward. Check connection and service conditions.
- Stuttering or freezing: movement skips or briefly stops. This can reflect network trouble, a PC hitch, or another performance issue.
- Delayed hit markers or shots that appear not to register: note whether this happens alongside rubber-banding or unstable ping, or whether it occurs while movement and connection appear steady.
- Low frame rate, a brief hitch, or input delay: investigate local performance as well as current game issues, particularly on PC.
These are clues to compare, not a guaranteed diagnosis. Activision’s network advice is general Call of Duty guidance, not a tested MW4-specific fix.
Compare network and device performance
On PC
If it is available in your current build, use MW4’s benchmark tool and note its displayed Average FPS, CPU, GPU, Ping, and Input Latency during the simulated multiplayer sequence. If FPS or input latency worsens while ping stays stable, investigate PC performance and current MW4 issues. If ping or packet-loss indicators worsen at the same time as rubber-banding, investigate your connection and the service path. Activision provides no universal benchmark threshold that proves a hit-registration fault, so treat the readings as diagnostic context rather than a pass/fail test.

- Beyond-fast WiFi 7 (802.11be) with new 320MHz channels in the 6 GHz band and 4096-QAM significantly increases network capacity and throughput, with speeds of up to 30 Gbps
- Multi-link Operation links to multiple bands at the same time to ensure stable internet connections and efficient data transfers
- Cutting-edge external dual-feeding antennas boost coverage by providing high efficiency and significantly enhanced signal strength
- Maximized wired connectivity and flexibility with dual 10G ports and quad 2.5G ports
- Triple-Level Game Acceleration - The GT-BE98 Pro boosts your PC gaming traffic every step of the way, from your PC gaming port all the way to the game server.
On console
Run the console’s built-in network test. Activision’s connection guide for another Call of Duty title describes Xbox and PlayStation tests as a way to identify connection breaks, but console menus and instructions depend on platform and software version. Check the current Xbox or PlayStation support instructions for the exact steps.

- Test Ethernet if you are using Wi-Fi. Connect the console or PC directly to your router and compare matches. Activision recommends wired Ethernet for online Call of Duty play because Wi-Fi reliability and bandwidth can vary. A wired test can reveal whether local Wi-Fi is contributing; it cannot fix a distant or faulty game server.
- Pause competing network activity. Temporarily stop downloads, video streams, gameplay broadcasts, and other bandwidth-heavy use. Competing traffic can consume bandwidth, including upload capacity used for streaming.
- Restart the router. Activision lists this as a basic step in a connection guide for Black Ops 6. It is general troubleshooting, not an MW4-specific fix.
- Change one thing per test. Note the match, symptom, connection type, and whether the problem returns. This makes it easier to tell whether a change helped.
Do not jump straight to port forwarding, DMZ settings, or buying a new router. The available MW4-specific evidence does not establish that these steps fix lag or hit registration. Activision mentions QoS as a feature on some routers, but does not endorse a particular setting as a solution to MW4 problems.

Work out whether the issue follows your connection or MW4
Use these comparisons to organize what you observe; they are practical diagnostic questions, not an official Activision scoring method.
- Connection indicators: Does the symptom coincide with worsening ping or packet loss, or instead with falling FPS or increased input latency?
- Other games: Does a similar problem occur in other online games, or only in MW4?
- Repeatability: Does it recur across different matches and network conditions?
- Official reports: Does the timing or symptom match a current MW4 known issue or update?
Report a reproducible MW4 problem
If the issue persists across matches or seems consistent with an official beta issue, use Activision’s MW4 feedback and bug-reporting page. Activision says: “A helpful bug report includes what happened, where and when it happened, and steps to reproduce what you experienced.” Include platform and match details, such as a match ID if the current interface provides one, only where the form accepts them. A short clip or screenshot may help clarify the symptom if the reporting form supports attachments.
