If Gemini Apps shows “Something went wrong” with error code 1155 or 1099, there is no published Google definition or code-specific fix for either number in the official Gemini help and support material reviewed for this guide. Treat the codes as identifiers for a failed request, not as proof of a particular cause. The reliable approach is to isolate whether the failure follows one prompt, conversation, model, browser or app, platform, or account, then give Google enough technical detail to investigate.
A Google Gemini Apps Community thread published on October 8, 2026 describes both codes and includes suggestions from a Platinum Product Expert. Those suggestions can be useful experiments, but community posts are not an official diagnosis or a guaranteed solution. The steps below separate documented Google guidance from community troubleshooting ideas.

What Gemini error 1155 and error 1099 actually tell you
The public official sources do not explain what Gemini Apps codes 1155 or 1099 mean. Google’s Gemini Apps Help center provides help and reporting routes, but it does not publish a code dictionary for these two numbers. Google Workspace’s support checklist explains how to collect information for a Gemini problem, not what either code decodes to. Therefore, you should not treat 1155 as a confirmed session conflict, context-limit error, account-provisioning failure, or outage. The same caution applies to 1099.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Question | What is established | What is not established |
|---|---|---|
| Are 1155 and 1099 documented meanings in Gemini Apps Help? | No code-specific explanation is published in the official material reviewed. | The underlying internal condition represented by either number. |
| Does one code identify a particular fix? | No official, code-specific fix is provided. | That starting a new chat, changing models, clearing extensions, or changing accounts will definitely solve it. |
| Could the failure be prompt-specific? | Yes, that is one possibility to test. Google recommends simplifying a prompt when an issue may be tied to it. | That either code proves a prompt is too long, unsafe, or malformed. |
| Is a community suggestion an official diagnosis? | No. The community thread is user-generated, and its Product Expert reply is advice for troubleshooting. | Prevalence, root cause, or a guaranteed remedy. |
A single community report says an error appeared while the user was typing schoolwork and that a second code appeared after trying a new chat. That wording is useful for recognizing the symptom—“Something went wrong 1155” or “Something went wrong 1099”—but one report cannot establish how common the problem is or why it occurs.

First, determine the scope of the failure
Do not make many changes at once. Run small, controlled tests and record the result after each one. This tells you whether the failure is attached to content, a conversation, a model, a client, or an account.
Test a minimal prompt
- Open Gemini Apps and send a neutral, short request such as
Reply with the word OK. - If the short request works, retry the original task with unnecessary context, file attachments, long pasted text, and complicated instructions removed.
- Add the material back in small pieces. Note the exact text or attachment that makes the error return.
This follows Google Workspace guidance: “Simplify the prompt: If the issue is with a specific prompt, try simplifying it, and then try again.” It does not prove that either code means a context overflow; it only identifies whether the prompt is a reproducible trigger.
Compare the original conversation with a new chat
Send the same minimal prompt in the existing conversation and in a new conversation. If only one thread fails, preserve that thread’s URL or title and the last successful message for your report. If both fail, continue testing rather than assuming the new chat itself is a fix.
Compare models
When the interface offers more than one model, run the same short prompt with the currently selected model and with another available model. Write down the model name or version shown in the interface. A result that changes by model narrows the scope, but it does not reveal what 1155 or 1099 means internally.
Compare platforms
Try the web interface and the mobile app if both are available to you. On mobile, record the app version, operating-system version, and device model. On the web, record the browser name and version. If the same account works on one platform but not another, include that contrast in your support report.
Compare accounts only as a diagnostic
The community Product Expert suggested trying a different account. If you have legitimate access to another account, a one-line test can show whether the failure follows the account. Do not create or change accounts as though Google has confirmed that this cures 1155 or 1099, and do not move confidential school or work material into an account that is not approved for it.

A practical isolation matrix
Use this table while testing. “Works” means the same short prompt receives a normal response; “fails” means the error returns with the same or a clearly recorded code.
| Comparison | If only the first case fails | If every case fails | Record |
|---|---|---|---|
| One prompt versus a simplified prompt | Prompt content, length, attachment, or formatting may be involved. | Move to conversation, model, and platform tests. | Exact prompt class, attachments, and code. |
| One conversation versus a new chat | Keep the conversation link or title and last successful turn. | Do not assume a chat reset is the answer; continue isolation. | Conversation title, time, and whether the code changed. |
| One model versus another model | Report the model name/version and the successful model. | Model selection is less likely to be the only differentiator. | Model labels exactly as displayed. |
| Web browser versus mobile app | Report the failing client, browser/app version, operating system, and device. | Look at account and service-wide patterns. | Client, version, device, and network context. |
| One account versus another account | Account-specific factors may be relevant, but this is not an official cure. | An account change is unlikely to explain the result by itself. | Which account type worked, without exposing credentials. |
Step-by-step fixes and checks
1. Start a clean, low-risk test
- Copy the full visible error, including whether it says 1155, 1099, or only “Something went wrong.”
- Open a new chat.
- Send a short text-only prompt.
- Wait for the response before adding files, links, or a long instruction.
- Repeat once in the original chat if you need to determine whether the failure is conversation-specific.
A clean test gives you a baseline. It also prevents you from losing the original conversation while experimenting.
2. Change the model, then change back
The Product Expert in the community thread recommends trying a different model. Select another model offered in your Gemini interface, send the same short prompt, and note the result. If it works, switch back and test once more. This is a diagnostic comparison, not evidence that a particular model owns either code. Model availability can vary by account, region, plan, and interface, so record exactly what you see rather than using a generic model name.
3. Test the browser without extensions
The same community response suggests another browser or an Incognito window with extensions disabled. Use a private window, sign in normally, and send the minimal prompt. If it works there, test the regular window with extensions disabled one at a time. Content blockers, script managers, privacy tools, and enterprise browser policies can alter web applications, but the official sources do not say that any specific extension causes 1155 or 1099.
4. Check the mobile app and device details
If the failure occurs in the app, update it through your device’s normal app store if an update is offered, then repeat the minimal test. Record the app version, operating-system version, device model, account type, and whether the web interface behaves differently. If the web version fails but the app works, or vice versa, report the distinction instead of describing the problem simply as “Gemini is down.”
5. Verify account and payment information carefully
The community Product Expert also suggested checking payment information. Treat this as a community troubleshooting idea only. If you use a paid Gemini feature, inspect the account’s billing or subscription page for an obvious expired payment method, declined transaction, or access warning. Do not enter payment details merely to test an error, and do not assume payment status explains a failure in a feature that should be available without payment. Never share card numbers, passwords, recovery codes, or screenshots containing them in a support report.

6. Avoid destructive “fixes” before preserving evidence
- Do not delete the conversation before recording its title, time, and last successful message.
- Do not repeatedly resend a failing request if it contains sensitive information or could trigger duplicate actions.
- Do not reset a device, remove an account, or change security settings solely because a numeric code appeared.
- Do not infer an outage from one failed request or from a code changing between attempts.
How to recognize a local, prompt, or broader problem
Signs that the prompt or conversation deserves attention
A short prompt works while one long prompt fails; the error returns only after adding a particular attachment; or a new chat works while one older thread does not. Preserve a minimal reproduction: the shortest prompt that still fails, the attachment type and size if relevant, and the exact code.
Signs that the client or platform may be involved
The web interface works in Incognito but not in the normal browser, or the app fails while the web interface works. Capture browser and app versions, extensions, operating-system details, and device model. These comparisons help support distinguish a client problem from an account or service problem; they do not identify the internal meaning of the code.
Signs that the issue may be account-wide
Several conversations and models fail for the same account, while another legitimately available account works. Record the account type and feature being used without disclosing personal data. A different-account result is evidence for a scope comparison, not permission to bypass access controls or an official recommendation to switch accounts.

If the error is intermittent, log each attempt with UTC time, prompt category, chat, model, platform, and result. Intermittent behavior is especially difficult to diagnose from a screenshot alone. A short timeline is more useful than a statement that the problem happens “sometimes.”
Report a persistent failure through Google’s official route
After you have preserved the error and run the basic comparisons, use the Gemini Apps Help center: https://support.google.com/gemini/?hl=en. Its help interface prompts users to “Describe your issue to find information that might help you.” The same center includes the route to send feedback or report a problem with Gemini Apps and links to the help community. Reporting does not promise a response or an immediate fix.
Include these details
- The exact visible message and numeric code: 1155, 1099, or both.
- The UTC date and time of each failure, including whether it is constant or intermittent.
- The model name and version shown in Gemini.
- The platform: web or mobile; browser and version, or app and operating-system versions; device model for mobile.
- The conversation scope: one chat, new chats, or all chats.
- The prompt scope: one prompt, a class of prompts, attachments, or even a minimal text-only request.
- What happened after testing another model, browser, Incognito mode, platform, or account.
- The practical impact, such as inability to send schoolwork, and whether the feature worked previously.
- A screenshot that shows useful context while hiding names, email addresses, document contents, payment information, and other sensitive data.
Google Workspace’s “Before you contact support: Gather key information” guidance, last updated October 9, 2026 UTC, specifically emphasizes prompt simplification, model/version identification, platform isolation, exact error details, frequency, impact, and whether the feature worked before. Read the checklist at https://knowledge.workspace.google.com/admin/support/before-you-contact-support-gather-key-information. Consumer Gemini Apps and Workspace accounts can have different support paths, so follow the route available to your account.

Do not apply Gemini API advice to these app codes
Gemini Apps and the Gemini API are different interfaces. If you are calling a model through an API key, client library, or SDK, use the separate Google AI for Developers troubleshooting guide at https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/troubleshooting, last updated October 1, 2026. That page discusses API calls and selected transient HTTP errors.
API retry guidance does not decode consumer Gemini Apps codes 1155 or 1099. Do not convert an app message into an assumed HTTP status, and do not tell a Gemini Apps user to change SDK retry settings. Conversely, if your own program is failing, collect its HTTP response, request ID if provided, SDK version, endpoint, and request pattern rather than reporting only an Apps code that appeared in a browser.
Common mistakes when chasing codes 1155 and 1099
Assuming the number is a diagnosis
A numeric label looks authoritative, but no official source reviewed here assigns a public meaning to either number. Describe the observable behavior and your test results instead of claiming a backend cause.
Treating a community answer as a guarantee
The October 8, 2026 community thread is useful for ideas such as a new chat, another model, another browser, Incognito mode, disabled extensions, a different account, and checking payment information. The thread itself cautions that community content may not be verified or current. Use those actions as reversible tests and report what happened.

Calling an isolated report an outage
The reviewed sources contain no statistic establishing how widespread these codes are and no evidence that either code marks a current service incident. One user’s report, a search result, or a changing code is not an outage confirmation. If many independent tests fail, include that pattern in your report without asserting a cause.
Posting sensitive data publicly
Error screenshots can expose conversation text, names, email addresses, school documents, or billing details. Crop or redact those fields before using the community or feedback route.
A decision path you can follow in ten minutes
- Record the exact message, code, UTC time, chat, model, and platform.
- Send a short text-only prompt in a new chat.
- Send the same short prompt in the original chat, if safe to do so.
- Simplify the failing prompt and remove attachments one at a time.
- Try another available model and record both model labels.
- Try another browser or an Incognito window with extensions disabled.
- Compare web and mobile, recording versions and device details.
- Only as an optional community diagnostic, compare a legitimately available account and inspect payment warnings if you use a paid feature.
- If the failure persists, submit the evidence through Gemini Apps Help and include the isolation results.
Stop testing when you have a reproducible minimal failure or enough evidence for a useful report. More retries rarely add information once the same controlled test fails.

What a successful diagnosis looks like
You have a useful diagnosis even if Google has not published the code’s internal meaning. For example, you may establish that a long prompt fails but a short prompt works; that only one old conversation fails; that one model fails while another responds; or that the web app fails only with extensions enabled. Those findings tell you what to avoid temporarily and give support a reproducible path.
If every controlled test fails across chats, prompts, models, and platforms, the appropriate conclusion is not “1155 means a specific backend problem” or “1099 means billing.” The evidence supports only that Gemini Apps is consistently failing for your tested account and environment. Send the complete report through the official route and wait for account-specific or service-specific guidance.
