There is no verified End of Abyss-specific Steam Deck crash fix in the available official guidance. The game is listed by Epic Games Store as a Windows PC release, with no Steam Deck compatibility rating documented on its listing. Start with basic SteamOS stability checks, then test one change at a time; treat Proton advice as applicable only when the game is being run through Steam.

What is known about End of Abyss on Steam Deck

Epic Games Store’s listing identifies Section 9 Interactive as developer and Epic Games Publishing as publisher, and lists Windows as the platform. It does not establish SteamOS support or a Steam Deck compatibility rating. The published requirements are for Windows PCs, not a guarantee that the game will run on a Deck.

These Windows requirements do not specify a Proton version, Deck graphics preset, launch command, or known crash trigger. No crash-frequency statistic or confirmed game-specific fix is established by the official sources cited here.

Try the safest Steam Deck checks first

Valve recommends checking for SteamOS updates, restarting the Deck, and temporarily disabling third-party applications installed through Desktop Mode when investigating stability problems. Make one change, retest, and note the result before moving to the next step.

  1. Record when the crash happens. Note whether it occurs at launch, at the same scene, after a similar length of play, or in other games too. This helps distinguish a repeatable game failure from a broader Deck stability issue; it does not by itself identify the cause.
  2. Install available SteamOS updates. Use the Deck’s system update controls to check for and install available software updates, then restart.
  3. Retest with third-party applications off. Temporarily exit or disable applications installed through Desktop Mode. If the crash stops, re-enable them one at a time to see whether the behavior returns.
  4. Confirm how the game is installed and launched. Epic’s listing is a Windows game listing. Steam’s per-game Deck Verified and Proton controls are for Steam apps; they do not automatically configure the Epic Games launcher.

Valve’s Steam Deck software troubleshooting guide covers these general checks and advises contacting Steam Support if stability issues continue after updating and restarting.

When Proton settings may be relevant

If you have added the game to Steam and a Steam compatibility tool is available for that entry, you can test Proton as a reversible troubleshooting step. Valve recommends checking a Steam app’s Deck Verified information, enabling a specific Steam Play compatibility tool if needed, and trying the latest Proton version. This is general Steam-app guidance, not a confirmed End of Abyss fix.

  1. In your Steam Library, open the game’s Properties, then Compatibility.
  2. If available, enable the option to force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool and select the latest Proton version offered.
  3. Launch the game and test the same situation that previously caused the crash. If the result is worse, return to the prior compatibility setting.

Valve warns that forcing Proton can cause Steam to download the Windows version if only a Linux version is installed. Do not assume these Steam settings control a separately installed Epic launcher or its game files. Avoid treating a Proton change as a verified remedy for this title.

How to narrow down a persistent crash

Keep a short record so support can act on reproducible details. Change only one variable at a time, such as SteamOS update status, third-party applications enabled or disabled, or Proton selection where Steam compatibility settings are actually in use.

  • Describe the trigger and the steps that reliably reproduce the crash.
  • Record how the game is installed and launched, plus the SteamOS channel and Proton version if applicable.
  • Note whether other games are also crashing or freezing.

If the Deck freezes or crashes across multiple games, or the problem continues after updates and a restart, contact Steam Support. For a failure limited to End of Abyss, send the reproducible steps and relevant logs through the publisher’s current game-support route. The Epic listing identifies Epic Games Publishing as publisher, but it does not itself confirm a particular support channel.
